Digital Storytelling Elements:• Text, Audio, and Visual Images• 7 Elements of a Digital Story

– Point of View/Purpose– Dramatic Question– Emotional Content– The Gift of Voice– The Power Of Soundtrack– Economy– Pacing

Point of View

• Purpose/Reason• Why are you telling this story?

Dramatic Question

• Conflict?• Question?• Desire?• Point of climax• Closure with a twist• How are you going to engage your

audience and keep attention?

Emotional Content

• Tie in emotions/vulnerability/descriptions• Reveal a truth no one else knows• Convey a truth about you no one believes• Engage the audience to make them want

to listen

The Gift of Voice

Power of the Soundtrack

• Music stirs up an emotional response• All music is original• If use copyrighted music 30 seconds or

10% (whichever is first)

Economy

• Sequential composition (visual and auditory)• Succinct and to the point• You want images to display a tone, feeling, and

communicate beyond what you are saying• You only have 1 written page and 3 total

minutes for the movie…what do you want to say and show:– Are you going to bombard with visuals– Are you going to use images to help or convey

meaning you can’t say in words

Pacing

• Rhythm of the story• Punctuation• White space to allow listener to listen or

reflect and internalize
