Alliance

Durham Tees Valley Research Alliance (DTVRA) brings together

County Durham and Darlington, North Tees and Hartlepool and

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts, to provide more

opportunities for patients to participate in research and clinical

trials.

Due to the research we do, our patients have access to some of

the most cutting-edge treatments, and each year thousands of our

patients volunteer to take part in these

We deliver a wide range of trials in most specialities within CDDFT.

Research is the opportunity to offer patients cutting edge treatments,

procedures and care.

It’s the responsibility of all NHS staff to allow patients the

opportunity to take part in research.

COVID-19

www.cddft.nhs.net

The events of this year surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic have affected

us all in the NHS.

All our usual research delivery was halted and we rapidly opened urgent

COVID-19 trials.

Many of our nursing team were redeployed to the wards to support patient

care.

Results

It’s not often trials deliver results so quickly but the RECOVERY trial found

that dexamethasone reduced deaths in patients admitted to hospital with

coronavirus.

The trial is ongoing with potential to add new treatment arms as more

information becomes available.

Let us take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for all the support the research

team received for the Recovery trial from all grades of staff across all sites

through the pandemic.

Patient Research Experience

Survey

www.cddft.nhs.net

An important part of patient participation in research is asking them for

feedback.

I felt safer having more follow ups

My three daughters and grandchildren may benefit from it all.

I don't want to have another stroke

because the research nurse was so lovely and I felt she helped me undertsand what was required

I was very happy with being involved in the research and I cannot praise enough the staff and the way I was dealt with

It has been good to have more follow up appointments so someone is checking that I am okay
