We are very pleased to welcome you to SORCY RIDING CLUB.

Enclosed is the information you will need to get you started with the club, but if there is

anything you are not sure of or if you have any questions or queries please don’t

hesitate to contact us and we will do our very best to help.

You may feel a little ‘lost’ at first but you will soon become part of a really friendly club.

Sorcy is a family club for all ages and abilities with mounted and un-mounted sections

so we like to see parents and other family members as well.

Our aim is not only to teach you to ride, but to learn about stable management, how to

look after your Horse / Pony and also for you to be happy and enjoy what you are

learning.

Sorcy Riding Club AIMS AND RULES OF SORCY RIDING CLUB.

SORCY RIDING CLUB is a club for horse and pony owners and riders, together with any member who do not have a horse or pony of their own, but who also have a common interest of horse and pony care, riding tuition and general horse management. Our aim is to provide an affordable accessible riding club whether the member has their own horse or pony or not. We aim to provide our members with the activities in which they would like to be involved, to the best of our abilities. This will include workshops and demonstrations based on the feedback we receive from our members. We aim to provide appropriate tuition for all our members from children to adults and for any person that is willing and able to learn. We aim to provide our un-mounted members with the opportunity to learn stable management and all aspects of Horse care. We aim to provide qualified instructors. We aim to provide tuition in stable management for our Mounted members. Club activities usually consist of monthly rallies or events during the club year which is 1

st of December.

Subscriptions are due in January, but a rolling membership program is also allowed. Members will be unable to take part in rallies if their membership has not been paid. The AGM will be held in January of each year. ALL RALLIES MUST BE PRE-PAID. Failure to do so may result in either you not being in the usual group, or if groups are full, not being able to ride at all. Children 18 years and under MUST AT ALL TIMES be accompanied by an adult. Members must sign in with the rally co-ordinator.

If a member attends a rally and fails to sign in, the rally will not be counted towards your total

score for the year.

The following horses/ponies are NOT acceptable at ANY event organised by SORCY RIDING CLUB:

Very young horses/ponies (under 4 years of age)

Horses/ponies infirm through age

Horses/ponies ill, thin or lame

Dangerous horses/ponies

Mares about to foal or have recently foaled

Stallions, unless permission is obtained from the committee or officers prior to the rally.

At the members show and any other events for members only, perpetual cups and trophies

will only be awarded to paid up members.

THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO

Members must at all times be cleanly and smartly turned out, club colours are white polo shirt or blouse with red/burgundy tie. Jackets, hoodies and polo’s will be available to purchase with the club logo. See a committee member for more information. T-shirt (hot days only) or club sweatshirt, together with blue, black or beige jodhpurs and correct footwear with heels and no soles that may catch in stirrups. Small flat studs are the only earrings allowed.

HARD HATS MUST BE WORN. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!

For any type of jumping an approved body protector must be worn, a list, which is constantly being updated, is

available from the BHS.

Members and their families are at all times expected to help at all rallies and events during

the year.

THIS IS A CONDITION OF MEMBERSHIP AND ANYONE NOT HELPING THROUGHOUT THE

YEAR IS AT RISK OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP BEING TERMINATED.

MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE EXPECTED TO GIVE ASSISTANCE TO FELLOW

MEMBERS AT ALL TIMES.

- THIS CLUB IS ‘SELF ORGANISED AND NON PROFIT MAKING’

The club has the use of ‘The Plateau, Ashton Court for its outdoor events, so please do not abuse this right. At all times SORCY RIDING CLUB members must be considerate to all other users of the park. All members are subject to the rules of this club and if the officers or committee members feel that any members conduct can be termed detrimental to the club, they will have the power to expel them from the club without refund of membership fee. Should this action be necessary, at any time, the committee’s decision will be final.

SORCY RIDING CLUB, ITS OFFICERS, COMMITTEE AND INSTRUCTORS ACCEPT NO

RESPONSIBILITY OF ANY KIND for loss or injury to rider/handler, horse or pony.

ANY PERSON OR ANIMAL ATTENDING A SORCY RIDING CLUB EVENT MUST ENSURE THEY

ARE ADEQUATELY INSURED.

Sorcy Riding Club Rallies

There will be monthly rallies held on the plateau, Aston Court Estate, Bristol. Unless otherwise stated. Entrance at Longwood Lane only BS8 3TQ. A combination lock will be placed on the main gate on Longwood Lane, Once you enter please ensure you close and replace the lock behind you. The combination will be on your membership card. Rallies will start at 10am and will be structured as follows: 10am – 11am = Flatwork

11am – 11.30am = Break

11.30am -12.00pm =stable management

12pm-1pm = jumping

Members will be expected to help set jumps out and put away at the end of each rally. Members are asked to be ready to ride by 9.50am so that we can start on time, all members will gather together so that any relevant information can be given and then sent to their correct groups. All members must sign in with the rally co-ordinator at every rally, if a member attends a rally and does not sign in, the rally will not be counted. ALL RALLIES MUST BE PRE-BOOKED AND PAID FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE. Failure to do so will result in a member not being able to join in. Also if you are not able to come please let us know. As we have to pre-book and pay for instructors. All members must ensure they are wearing correctly fitted hats and are to British standard, also correct footwear that has a suitable heal and all members must wear a suitable body protector for all jumping activities. COST Rallies will cost £6 p.p. or you can pre pay all 9 rallies at a discounted price of £45.00 but this must be done before the 1st rally in February. GROUPS All groups will be put into abilities. There is no water available on site so please bring your own. All horses/ponies to be over the age of 4 years. No horses/ponies infirm through age No horses/ponies ill, thin or lame No dangerous horses/ponies No mares about to foal or have recently foaled No stallions, unless permission is obtained from the committee All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. No skipping out on Sorcy ground and please put all rubbish in bins provided or take home with you. All members must remain on Sorcy ground at Sorcy events and under no circumstances should any member go onto the golf course. Toilets and refreshments will not be available at this time due to cost but may be added if membership numbers rise. So please bring your own. It is a condition of your membership that the above rules are adhered to any member found not to follow them may have their membership terminated without refund.

Sorcy Riding Club was started over 40 years ago in connection with the Bristol

Evening Posts’ Pillar Box Club. It was designed to give children the opportunity that

had an interest in horses the chance to be involved and learn all aspects of

horsemanship at very low prices, there has always been an unmounted section for

children that didn’t own their own horse/pony to come along and learn too.

We are very lucky in having use of The Plateau, Ashton Court Estate by kind

permission of Bristol City Council and it is here that we are able to offer all of our

events.

In 2011 the club will be opening its doors to anyone who would like to be involved,

including adults & children and anyone who doesn’t have their own horse/pony but

would like the opportunity to learn all about them.

The club is self funding and non profit making and is run by a very dedicated voluntary

committee, who meet on a monthly basis; our aim is to give our members varied and

professional tuition and to keep the cost as low as possible so anyone can be

involved.

To be able to do this for our members we are always looking to fund raise and seek

sponsorship from local people and businesses, we hold four open events a year and

the profits made from these events help fund the club.

Anyone has the opportunity to sponsor a class at our shows and can be done so at

minimal cost.

If you feel you are able to help us with sponsorship in any way please see the

enclosed forms.
