Sustainability Initiatives
EnviNOx™ units on both Nitric acid plants NOx emissions are reduced by > 90%, generating carbon credits• 5 260 514 carbon credits generated• 4 684 078 carbon credits verified & issued
Electricity cogeneration 50% of its total electricity demand at the Sasolburg factory through cogeneration, when both Nitric acid plants are running
BME Double salt emulsion products which when detonated do not produce NOx emissions thereby reducing the customer’s carbon footprint
Used oil as a fuel agent for the emulsions, reducing the customer’s environmental impact while maintaining the highest quality of AN/CN-based emulsion product

Sustainability - Innovative solutions for a Better World
World Population (BN) Arable Land (Hectares per capita)
Traditional chemical products are unable to sustain the productivity required in the long term by an increasing world population
Available arable land is declining and is impacted by traditional chemicals, which are reaching a maximum performance levels due to growing resistance up by plants, insects and plant diseases.

Ammonium Nitrate: N H4 N O3
Fertilizer requires the Nitrate
Explosives requires the Oxidiser
Diversification
Granular fertilizer
• Difference in size, shape and density• Granules segregate• Uneven distribution of nutrients• Increases risk
• Each granule contains the same nutrients• Uniform, predictable distribution• Reduces risk

EFFLUENT RECYCLED
COST EFFECTIVENESS:• Lower working capital• No bought in lime required for calcium nitrate
production• Phosphate rock instead of more expensive

EMISSIONS TO NEMAQA STANDARDS
MARKET COMPETITIVENESS AGAINST IMPORTS
Contribution
• Estimated 50% run rate in year 1 and 85% year 2 – plant capacity of 500 tpd• Conservative time allowed for ramp-up
• Benefit is derived from replacing currently bought-in raw material rather than having to develop new markets• Current downstream production can consume the full 500 tpd capacity
• P benefit - differential between cost of phosphate rock and the downstream derivatives of phosphate rock being:• Phosphoric acid (liquid)• MAP/DAP (dry)
• Lime benefit – Eliminating the need for lime purchases to produce calcium nitrate
• Infrastructure designed to allow expansion to 1,000 tpd in future with limited capital• Less than half the capital required for phase 1 is estimated
• Reliance on a single phosphoric acid supplier• Ability to import phosphoric acid also now in place
