SCRIPTURE READING Romans 12:1-2 NRSV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds,
so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2 The Message
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life - your
sleeping, ea'ng, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an
offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t be-
come so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead,
fix your a+en'on on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he
wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging
you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed
maturity in you.

Savoring the Word
Kings 3:5-12
T his week, take some 'me to read 1 Kings 3:5-12 each day - ideally read it in a different
transla'on each day. Or read it in different ways - maybe one day read it silently, another
read it aloud, another write it down as you read it. How do you hear it differently each 'me?
I was thinking about this passage the other day while I was driving home with my kids and
I asked them what they would wish for if given one wish. One of them said, “More wish-
es!” Not a bad idea. I wonder what God’s response to Solomon might have been if that had
been his answer. But Solomon’s answer was…wisdom. Not riches. Not power. Not more
land. Wisdom.
• What would your response be if you were put in Solomon’s place?
What would you wish for?
• What does “Wisdom” mean to you?
• Who do you know today that you would consider to be “wise”?
• How do we gain wisdom in our lives?
