We Learn With Technology Showcase of Excellence in Instructional Technology
The Showcase honors Delaware teachers who are doing remarkable work in their classrooms as they assist students in meeting the standards. Selected by their districts or schools, they have demonstrated excellence in instructional technology by:
Utilizing instructional technology for the enhancement of instruction, curriculum and learning,
Utilizing technology for personal productivity, Understanding standards-based education, Using project-based learning to promote higher-order thinking
skills, and Actively engaging students with technology on a routine basis.
The Delaware Center for Educational Technology is delighted to recognize these teachers for their dedication to their students and to their profession and most importantly welcome their students who have diligently worked with their teachers by striving for academic excellence.

Students Alex Taylor and Kristen Burgess share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Georgiana Fennemore and student teacher Ann Prose. We LEARN with technology. We created a multimedia documentary of our overnight field trip to Ashland Nature Center. We present results of our science experiments and math labs supported with PowerPoint. We write and write and write with Word. We created multimedia autobiographies.

Brandywine School District
Students Habiba Rafiqi and Bianca Peters share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Hepsi Zsoldos. We LEARN with technology. The Internet is a terrific way of allowing research scientists in the field to share their ongoing research with us. We have explored (vicariously) hydrothermal vent systems on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean as well as the unique chemistry of the Black Sea with University of Delaware researchers. We are looking forward to future projects that include virtual trips to Costa Rica to study the rainforest and the Gulf of Alaska.

Students Ian Silva (pictured) and Jacob Carter share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Joann Reynolds. We LEARN with technology. Our seventh grade class worked on a semester long project using multiple technology skills: Internet research, Website validity, full use of Microsoft Word, Excel, & Power Point. Using the Big6 Research Skills and technology, we investigated a chosen topic, then delivered and presented a product. We learned life long skills of research and delivery of information.

Students Morgan Lally, Lydia Sampson, and Sam Willard share their experience using technology under the direction of teachers Cindy Cunningham and Vicki Friend. We LEARN with technology. We participated in an interdisciplinary project that infused technology with the study of regional history, geography, and science. Our fourth grade class digitally portrayed changes to the landscape at Cape Henlopen State Park over time and the associated impact on our environment.

We use technology as a tool to work on real-world problems. We created a pamphlet based on our research and analysis of the issues to be addressed in various emergency situations. Following Mr. Augustus’s model, we use technology for personal productivity and to reach our academic goals.

Delaware Secretary of Education Valerie Woodruff (2nd from left) visited with students Rachel Reed and Marcus Smith as they share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Susan Cebulka. We LEARN with technology. Picture this! We are a whole class of fifth grade ecosystem experts. Mrs. Cebulka challenged us to research and become experts on our ecosystems so we can teach others. For the annual Southern Ecosystem Fair, we used our own creativity to design displays that integrated technology, language arts, and science.

Students Chelsea Best and Charisse Holmes share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Shauneen Giudice. We LEARN with technology. In Science, we learn how to use digital cameras and basic Power Point skills. We have used these skills to prepare lab reports and presentations for younger students and conferences. We are starting a project, “Stories of Sand, Sea and the Shores,” in which we record oral histories and collect natural history information from coastal fishing towns. We have created a class Web site to publish online journals and documents related to our field expeditions with Earthwatch.

Students Jason Rohlfing and Samantha Smith share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Ms. Ryan Revel. We LEARN with technology. We input and analyze data with a spreadsheet during our Ecology multi-lab experience. PowerPoint enhances our daily lessons and Web-based lessons incorporate Web research, data gathering and assessments in a rich format. Learning with technology heightens our overall interest, promotes personal responsibility and enhances the data analysis phase of our investigations.

Students Rick Emory and Katelyn Buban share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Stephen O'Brien. We LEARN with technology. We designed and wrote a newspaper edition on “The Boston Tea Party” and completed journals on our imaginary trip along the Oregon Trail. Digital cameras, PowerPoint presentations, and Mr. O’Brien's Website enhance our daily classroom instruction.

Students Danielle Davidson (pictured) and Adam Lowe share their experience using technology under the direction of teachers Nicole Ingley (pictured) and Brandon Noelte. We USE technology to be mentally and physically fit. The Laurel Middle School Physical Education program strives to create a challenging and trusting environment in which students have the opportunity to develop their unique abilities and achieve their personal best physically, socially, emotionally and academically. The Physical Education department has developed a curriculum which integrates the components: athletics, health concepts and technology in order for students to reach these goals.

Students Jackie Lupian and Melanie Mitten share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Brian Gross. We LEARN with technology. We are ‘engaged’ when we deliver our interactive multimedia presentations using the presentation station with a computer, an LCD projector, StarBoard and DVD/VCR. Mr. Gross even uses digital photographs to “spice up” his lessons.

Students Vernon Brown and Andy Conant share their experience using technology under the direction of teacher Dennis Haley. We LEARN with technology. In the comprehensive Computer Engineering Technology program, we acquire knowledge of Information Technology (computer systems hardware, operating systems and networking). Throughout the program, we work with “live” computers in a combination of instructor-led exercises and we have extensive, hands-on lab work allowing us to experience an exciting, real-world computing environment. Our Senior Project will be designing and implementing a small-business computer network!

We were hired by the Mars Company to conduct market research about M & M's and consumers favorite colors. We reported back to the Director of Market Research after determining if in fact the Mars Company is satisfying the consumer's color preferences with their present color quota per bag. They are!

We participated in a collaborative Internet Project, “Fighting Child Labor in Africa,” through iEARN. iEARN is a non-profit global network that enables young people, like us, to use the Internet and other new technologies to engage in collaborative educational projects that both enhance learning and make a difference in the world.

I am enrolled in Advanced Computer Applications where I am involved in the creation of the winter sports banquet; MJROTC annual awards program; Senior awards night invitations and tickets; Woodbridge High School course selection handbook; Woodbridge High School Raider Excellence invitations and tickets, and business cards for various personnel within the district.
