Through the assistance of the Foundation, the Grand Forks Park District is committed to the development, enhancement, and sustainability of parks, playgrounds, facilities, programs, and activities for our community.
Established in 2007, the Foundation provides financial assistance to low-income families within recreation programs and allows the Grand Forks Park District to build and sustain life-enriching facilities. Through community donor support, we are sincerely optimistic that needs will be met, allowing parks and recreation in Grand Forks to continue through the decades.

May 2018Dear Foundation Donors and Supporters,
The Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Foundation was honored to be able to enhance health and happiness within our community this past year.
We were thrilled to have celebrated our 5-Year Anniversary of Choice Health & Fitness opening. Choice Health & Fitness and the Grand Forks Park District celebrated the 5th Anniversary Event on Monday, September 25, 2017, with themed-fitness classes, giveaways, a free throw contest, and a lobby full of fun. With the support of our strong partnerships and the unyielding commitment of our generous IMAGINE Campaign donors, Choice Health & Fitness is honored to serve our loyal members, visitors, and the Grand Forks region.
After years of envisioning a relocation to Kannowski Park, the New Skatepark Project was launched forward in 2017 with a large contribution in funds raised through the 12th Annual Rydell Car & Bike Show, a total amount of $100,538! Along with the Rydell Car & Bike Show’s donation, a Myra Foundation Grant and a few other significant grants awarded to the Grand Forks Park District, the project was pushed into Phase One.
In 2017, we finished two additional fields, allowing our youth players to use four additional fields for practice and games last summer. With the concession stand, much-needed restrooms, and the batting cages completed in Fall of 2017 by the staff of ICON Architectural Group, we look forward to using the complex facility this upcoming youth baseball / softball season!
It was a successful year for the Grand Forks Veterans Memorial Park campaign, with over $200,000 raised and 131 Memorial Stones sold. With continued support from the Red River Valley Motorcyclists; EAPC Architects Engineers in the final stages of design work; Opp Construction ready to begin general contract work; and Gary Shields volunteering to be the Development Officer leading the development and public awareness of the project, we anticipate even more advancements to be made in 2018.
With your continued support in 2018, we will continue to promote healthy lifestyles through amazing facilities and great programs that enhance the quality of life.
Much appreciation,
Paul Barta2018 Foundation Board President

The wheels are beginning to roll on the Skatepark Project in Grand Forks. In seeing a need to provide skaters of all ages with a safe place to gather, together the Skatepark Committee and the Grand Forks Parks and Rec Foundation created a vision for change many years ago.
As Phase 1 of the project gets underway, involving the relocation of features of the old skatepark, located down town next to the Police Station, to the new location at Kannowski Park, the park is beginning to take shape. Features from the previous location including the Tri-Tiered Manual Pad, Grind Ledge, and HSS Grind Rail have been moved and will be incorporated into the new park’s design. In addition to the relocated sections of the park, the new skatepark will have eighteen new features of varying structures, levels, and obstacles. The main feature of the park consists of a large Radius Bowl, complete with walls and features surrounding it.
In 2017, strides have been taken to make this dream a reality, with a huge contribution in funds raised through the 12th Annual Rydell Car & Bike Show. The total amount raised from the event was $100,538.44! The Rydell Car & Bike Show’s earning, so generously pledged to be donated to the Skatepark, will launch this project into Phase One. We also were the recipient of a $5,000 grant for the project awarded by the Myra Foundation in 2017. With these funds in place, the skatepark will provide a safe environment for children of all ages, and their families, a place to be active and pursue skating as a sport.
Needless to say, the Grand Forks Park District is elated to add this sport specific park to the list of great parks already in the community. Not only do skateparks provide communities with many benefits, including reducing illicit behavior and many physical and mental health benefits, they also aid in stimulating economic growth in the com-munity; which is why there was a clear need for the park’s overhaul and update. With new ramps, pipes, walls, bowls, transitions, and extensions the new skatepark will be a skater’s paradise.
If you would like to get involved, naming rights are still available for many of the park’s features. Visit us online at gfparksfoundation.org to find out more.

24-hour online fundraiser byDakota Medical FoundationFebruary 9, 2017
GIVING HEARTS DAy
In 2017, we teamed up with the Grand Forks Education Foundation to co-promote our causes. You might remember receiving a postcard in the mail with the little red school bus and pool passes for kids on it. This effort was made to stretch our donation dollars to the fullest and try to save costs in an effort to increase proceeds.
With the 83 individual online donations we received during the 24-hour on-line fundraising event; the generous matches of $500 from the Blue Line Club and $3,500 match from CPS, Ltd., we were able to raise $6,288.50 for local youth. We are so very thankful to everyone who made this possible.

From the funds raised, we completed the two additional diamonds in Summer 2017, with a total of four diamonds now at the Scheels Sports Complex. With four diamonds at Scheels Sports Complex now available, our players knocked the 2017 youth baseball / softball season out of the park- including the hosting of the Cal Ripkin State Tournament at Scheels Sports Complex in July 2017. This success is due to the dedicated vision of the Building Fields of Dreams Campaign.
The staff of ICON Architectural Group have been working hard in 2017 on finishing the complex main building. The concessions, restrooms, and storage building is now completed and being set-up for the upcoming season. Players and families are all looking forward to using this beautiful building in the 2018 baseball / softball season!
If you have interest in getting more involved, finding more about our naming sponsorship opportunities that are available, or would just like to help make sure we are able to complete the project as planned, please contact us. As funds become available, we plan to add field lights and more amenities to this destination baseball / softball complex.

It was a successful year for the campaign project, with significant advancements made. The results of the geotechnical survey, to determine the need for excavation and infilling to insure the stability of the memorial wall, were received. While some issues were cited, all were correctable. EAPC Architects Engineers were in the final stages of design work and Opp Construction agreed to be general contractor on the project.
The Grand Forks Veterans Memorial Park Committee received their 501C (3) status thanks to the hard work of Attorney Kirk Tingum, of Caldis, Tingum, and Tingum Ltd, and retired District Judge and Board of Directors member, Joel Medd.
Another significant advancement of the project was obtaining the services of Gary Shields, a professional fund raiser, who has volunteered his services. Gary’s expertise has enabled us to reach out to more agencies and has raised the public’s awareness of our project. He also oversaw the development of a website for the project: gfvetspark.org.
The Red River Valley Motorcyclists (RRVM) have become an outstanding supporter of the project, donating more than $40,000, with more to come. Over $200,000 has been raised for

It will be an outdoor gathering place for veterans, military members, families and the community to celebrate, recognize, remember, and honor the lives of those who are serving or have served in the U.S. Military.
