We Remember
Voice in the Darkness:
“In the beginning was a dream. 50 years later,
the dream has become a movement.
The movement has produced countless
miracles.
Please recall you own dreams as, together,
‘We Remember’ the journey of Worldwide
Marriage Encounter”
The lights now come up on John &
Rosemary sitting at a table

JOHN KLEINFELDER
Last night’s opening of the convention was
awesome. The passion and the excitement was
alive. It’s amazing when you think we are
celebrating 50 years of Worldwide Marriage
Encounter.
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
I loved it! “We Remember, We Celebrate,
We Believe”. We could relive our whole lives
with that theme!
Oh, look, there’s that nice couple we met on
the hotel shuttle. Let’s call them over and ask
them sit with us.
(Waving at younger couple)
TANYA CALINGASAN
(Hugs all around)
Hi Guys! We looked for you after we checked
in, so I’m glad we found you.
Recordamos
movimiento.
El movimiento ha producido innumerables
milagros.
Por favor recuerda tus propios sueños,
cuando juntos,
"Recordamos" el viaje del Encuentro
Matrimonial Mundial "
Las luces ahora aparecen
sobre John y Rosemary

el menú
JOHN KLEINFELDER
La apertura de la convención de anoche
fue asombrosa. La pasión y la
emoción estaban vivas. Es increíble
cuando piensas que estamos celebrando
los 50 años del Encuentro Matrimonial
Mundial.
R OSEMARY KLEINFELDER
¡Me encantó! "Recordamos, celebramos,
creemos”. Podriamos revivir toda nuestra
vida con ese tema!
Oh, mira, ahí está esa agradable pareja
que conocimos en el autobus del
hotel. Vamos a llamarlos y pedirles que
se sienten con nosotros.
(Saludando a la joven pareja)
TANYA CALINGASAN
(Abrazos por todas partes)
Hola Chicos! Los estuvimos buscando
después de que nos registramos, así que
What did you think of last night? We’re
pretty new to Marriage Encounter so it really
blew us away. There were SO many incredible
people and stories we never knew before. It’s
really got us pumped up about what’s to come.
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Last night really touched us. We were just
talking about all the memories it brought
back of couples and Priests and past
conventions.
VINNY CALINGASAN
I can see that from your shirts. What year
was that convention?
JOHN KLEINFELDER
This one is from 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia, but
our first convention was in 1981 at Rutgers
University. We vowed we’d never miss
another convention. We’ve built some great
relationships over the years with people all
over the world and it is awesome to be here
with all these great lovers.
TANYA CALINGASAN
Our weekend was just last summer, so this is
our first convention. How long ago did you
make your weekend? Why did you decide to
go?
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
We made our weekend December 1976. We
had been to a speaker’s night about Marriage
me alegra que los hayamos encontrado.
¿Qué piensas de anoche? Somos
bastante nuevos en el Encuentro
Matrimonial, así que realmente nos
impresionó. Había tantas personas e
historias increíbles que nunca antes
conocimos. Realmente nos emociona lo
que está por venir.
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
convenciones anteriores.
VINNY CALINGASAN
Puedo verlo desde sus camisas. ¿en qué
año fue esa convención?
JOHN KLEINFELDER
Esta es del 2001 en Atlanta, Georgia ,
pero nuestra primera convención fue en
1981 en la Universidad de Rutgers. Nos
juramos que nunca nos perderíamos otra
convención. A lo largo de los años hemos
construido excelentes relaciones con
personas alrededor de todo el mundo y
es increíble estar aquí con todos estas
amadas personas.
TANYA CALINGASAN
Nuestro fin de semana fue
el verano pasado, asi que esta es
nuestra primera convención. ¿Hace
cuánto tiempo hiciste tu fin de
semana? ¿Por qué decidiste ir?
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Hicimos nuestro fin de semana en
diciembre 1976. Habíamos asistido a una
noche informative sobre el Encuentro
Encounter, but I had no desire to go on a
weekend. I was in a really bad place in our
marriage. Five little children ages 3-12 that
were completely my responsibility. I truly
judged I had fallen out of love with Johnny. I
finally gave in to going after several couples
kept bugging us.
I went on the weekend tired, frustrated and
hurting. All weekend I held on to my hurts
and refused to let go. Nobody was taking
those hurts away from me! But as the
weekend continued, Johnny’s vulnerability
started chipping at the wall I had built up.
Feelings were hitting me that I had not
experienced in a long tme.
Sunday morning hit me like a ton of bricks.
The tears started flowing down my cheeks as
I wrote my love letter. My pen was going so
fast because I had many hurts to let go of. I
discovered that I still loved my Johnny very
much and couldn’t wait to be in his arms. I
wanted to feel his warm embrace and tell him
how much I still loved him and wanted to be
with him for the rest of my life.
VINNY CALINGASAN
Wow! What a story! But what’s kept you
involved in Marriage Encounter for so long? It
can’t just be coming to conventions.
JOHN KLEINFELDER
To be honest, we never wanted to go back to
the relationship we had before the weekend.
Matrimonial, pero no tenía ganas de irme
a un fin de semana. Yo estaba en una
situacion bastante mala en nuestro
matrimonio.
Johnny.Finalmente acepte ir después de
que varias parejas insistian
constantemente.
Fui el fin de semana cansada, frustrada
y herida. Durante todo el fin de semana
me aferré a mi dolor y me negué a
dejarlo ir. ¡Nadie me quitaba esas
heridas! Pero a medida que el fin de
semana continuaba, la vulnerabilidad de
Johnny comenzó a romper la pared que
había construido. Los sentimientos que
afloraban no los había experimentado en
mucho tiempo.
La mañana del domingo me golpeó como
una tonelada de ladrillos. Las lágrimas
comenzaron a fluir por mis mejillas
mientras escribía mi carta de amor. Mi
pluma iba tan rápido porque tenía
muchas heridas que soltar. Descubrí que
todavía quería mucho a mi Johnny y no
vida.
VINNY CALINGASAN
¡ Guau ! ¡Qué historia! Pero, ¿qué te
mantuvo involucrado en el Encuentro
Matrimonial por tanto tiempo? No puede
ser solamente el venir a las
convenciones.
JOHN KLEINFELDER
Para ser honesto, no
The cold wars, the indifference, the lack of
affection and tenderness. We knew
somehow, someway, we needed to stay
involved with Marriage Encounter. We bought
into all the concepts of the weekend hook,
line, and sinker. To keep those alive, we
became a very passionate “yes” couple.
Our daily dialogue has constantly challenged
us to look at our attitudes and behaviors as
well as our feelings. Making daily decisions to
love and to seek forgiveness empowers us to
be the best couple we can be. And that makes
our Sacrament powerful and exciting to
friends and strangers alike. We’ve seen how
we can make a difference with our kids, our
grandchildren, and our Church.
God became an intimate part of our
relationship on our weekend. We absolutely
believe we are the Body of Christ right here
and now in 2018. Walking with other couples
and priests is such a beautiful gift. These
relationships have been a life line for us.
They have prayed for us and held us tight
when Rosemary was diagnosed with breast
cancer and underwent a mastectomy. The
cards and prayers came in buckets when I
had my stroke 9 years ago. Their laughter and
joy is always a gift and constantly lifts us up.
We are invested in our Marriage Encounter
communities. It is a lifestyle we chose way
back in 1976. We thank God we have stayed
involved and our dream is still on fire.
queríamos volver a la relación que
teníamos antes del fin de semana. Las
guerras frías, la indiferencia, la falta de
afecto y la ternura. Sabíamos de alguna
manera, de algunaforma, teníamos que
seguir participando en Encuentro
Matrimonial. Compramos todos los
conceptos, el hilo y la plomada, el
gancho del fin de semana. Para
mantenerlos vivos, nos convertimos en
una pareja "sí" muy apasionada.
Nuestro diálogo diario constantemente
nos ha desafiado a mirar nuestras
actitudes y comportamientos, así como
nuestros sentimientos .Tomar decisiones
Sacramento sea poderoso y
emocionante para amigos y extraños por
igual. Nosotros hemos visto como
podemos hacer la diferencia con
nuestros hijos,
nuestros nietos, y nuestra Iglesia.
hermoso. Estas relaciones han sido una
línea de vida para nosotros. Ellos han
orado por nosotros y nos dieron soporte
cuando a Rosemary le diagnosticaron
cáncer de mama y le realizaron una
mastectomía. Las tarjetas y oraciones
llegaron en tobos cuando tuve mi infarto
hace 9 años. Su alegría y gozo es siempre
un regalo que constantemente nos
levanta. Nosotros hemos invertidos en
nuestras comunidades de Encuentro
Matrimonial. Es un estilo de vida que
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Our Weekend gave us back our dreams for
our marriage and we’ve never again been able
to settle for just being ordinary. Looking at
the challenges facing young couples like you
today, we realize more than ever that God is
calling Marriage Encounter couples and
Priests to be signs of hope to the world.
Just as Rosemary finishes, Fr. Doug Reed
walks in and joins the group
JOHN KLEINFELDER (looks up in surprise)
Hey, there’s an old friend of ours. Hi Father
Doug. It’s great to see you. Welcome to
another fantastic convention.
FR. DOUG REED
It’s great to be here! I can’t imagine missing
any conventions, much less the 50th! And I am
so happy I found you. I’ve been searching
since I arrived - but every time I try to find
YOU, I run into so many other lovers I’ve met
over the years. What a joy! My cup
overfloweth!
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Father Doug, Let us introduce you to our new
elegimos hace mucho tiempo, en 1976. Le
damos gracias Dios que nos hayamos
mantenido involucrados y nuestro sueño
todavía está en llamas (encendidio).
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Nuestro fin de semana nos
devolvió nuestros sueños para nuestro
matrimonio y que nunca más nos hemos
conformados con ser ordinarios
(rutinarios).
JOHN KLEINFELDE (mira sorprendido)
Oye, aqui esta un viejo amigo de
nosotros. Hola, Padre Doug. Que alegria
verlo de nuevo. Bienvenido a otra
fantástica convención.
FR. DOUG REED
¡Es genial estar aquí! No puedo
imaginarme perderme una convención,
¡mucho menos la 50 ava !. Y estoy tan feliz
de haberte encontrado. Te he estado
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Padre Doug, permitanos presentarle a
friends, Vinny and Tanya.
VINNY CALINGASAN
Nice to meet you, Father!
One thing that’s really inspired us in Marriage
Encounter is how couples AND Priests are so
supportive of each other. We’ve seen a bunch
of Priests here and they all seem to have
such joyful relationships with couples. But I
have to say it’s still kind of surprising to me
how a movement about marriage ended up
attracting so many Priests and religious.
FR. DOUG REED
I can understand that! I, too, wondered why
two couples cared about me going on a
Marriage Encounter weekend. They invited
me to dinner and talked to me about how
much they wanted me to go. I finally signed
up for the weekend, but soon after that, I
was transferred to Hamilton, Ontario,
Canada. I came back to make the weekend -
and then was asked to make a deeper
weekend given by Chuck Gallagher. I was so
ignorant about Worldwide Marriage
Encounter that I didn’t even realize what an
honor it was at the time to hear the sharings
of Fr. Chuck. But I remember how insistent
he was for me to encourage my superiors to
permit me to give weekends. I had such an
“AH HA” moment on my original weekend that
I asked to be transferred to a place where I
could continue to give Worldwide weekends.
I was still a “Baby Priest,” being out of the
seminary only two and a half years. The
nuestros nuevos amigos, Vinny y Tanya.
VINNY CALINGASAN
Encantado de conocerlo, Padre!
Una de las cosas que realmente nos
inspiró en Encuentro Matrimonial es
cómo las parejas y los sacerdotes son
tan solidarios el uno del otro. Hemos
visto un grupo
de Sacerdotes aquí y todos parecen
tener buenas relaciones con las
parejas.
atrayendo a tantos sacerdotes y
religiosos.
FR. DOUG REED
¡Puedo entender eso ! Yo, también, me he
weekend taught me that there was another
dimension to my priesthood besides being a
teacher. Relationship! I had never gotten the
importance of relationships in my ministry.
My relationship to God, the couples and
priests on the weekend. Wow! What a
revelation! It changed my whole
understanding of ministry - to look at
everything I did through the eyes of
relationship. That’s why priests need to be on
Marriage Encounter weekends - to come
closer to the Church, the people of God.
JOHN KLEINFELDER
What would we do without priests like you, Fr
Doug!
Vinny & Tanya, you probably know that Fr.
Gabriel Calvo actually started Marriage
Encounter in Spain, but the first English
experience was presented at Notre Dame in
1968. Fr. Chuck Gallagher attended that
weekend and he left there on fire! It wasn’t
long before he gathered together some
special couples in New York who had gone on a
weekend. And that’s where the dream
exploded! If it wasn’t for that crazy young
Jesuit priest and his friends, none of us
would be here right now.
What I wouldn’t give to have been sitting
around that kitchen table in Brooklyn!
TANYA CALINGASAN
JOHN KLEINFELDER
¿Qué haríamos sin sacerdotes como
usted, P. Doug!
Vinny y Tanya, ustedes probablemente
1968. El Padre. Chuck Gallagher asistió a
prendido! No pasó mucho tiempo antes
TANYA CALINGASAN
Kitchen table? What kitchen table?
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
You’ve never heard about the kitchen table?
That’s where the dream began – the dream of
Worldwide Marriage Encounter – the dream
to change the world!

FR. ROSY (FR. CHUCK)
Lovers, look how the Lord has blessed us with
this gift of Marriage Encounter! And you
know, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from
the experience - but something amazing
happened on that Weekend. When I stopped
focusing on the presenters and looked into
the faces of those couples, I was stunned. I
could see how their love was being
transformed right before my eyes!!
SUZANNE CROSS
That’s what happened to us!! We’re still
overwhelmed by our own weekend – but it’s
easy to see the weekend is having a
tremendous impact on everyone.
JACK WHITE
Marriage Encounter seems to open their
hearts and rekindle their dreams – and they
don’t want to let that go!

Mesa de cocina? ¿Qué mesa de cocina?
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER

cocina? Ahi fue donde el sueño comenzó -
el sueño del Encuentro Matrimonial

FR. ROSY (FRUCE CHUCK )
Amantes, miren cómo él Señor nos ha
bendecido con este regalo
de Encuentro Matrimonial! Y tu sabes,
que Yo sinceramente, no esperaba
mucho de la experiencia - pero algo
increíble sucedió en ese fin de
semana. Cuando dejé de centrarme en los
presentadores y miré la cara de esas
parejas, me quede aturdido. Pude ver
cómo su amor se estaba transformando
justo ante mis ojos !
SUZANN E CROSS
¡Eso es lo que nos sucedió a
nosotros! Todavia estamos abrumado
JACK WHITE
Encuentro Matrimonial parece abrir sus
corazones y reavivar sus sueños - ¡Y no
quieren dejarlo ir!
REGINA HICKSON
And don’t forget our Priests! It’s unbelievable
how their vocations seem to come alive after
the weekend.
FR. ROSY (FR CHUCK)
Just imagine a whole world full of couples
passionately in love with each other - and
Priests passionately in love with their people!
Lovers, I believe that Marriage Encounter -
and the powerful love of these sacraments -
is not only going to change the world, but is
the key to renewing our Church.
JENNY WHITE
It’s exciting to think about a world like that -
about sharing this gift - but how can the few
of us sitting around this table change the
world?
FR. ROSY (FR. CHUCK)
Well, there were only a few apostles, too! But
the Holy Spirit is everywhere - so we are not
alone. We can do this, dear ones. We
MUST do this!
JOHN CROSS
You’re right! The time is now! Every married
couple and Priest deserves a Marriage
Encounter! We can’t keep this to ourselves!
KEVIN HICKSON
Can you hear it, lovers? (Pauses and looks
around the table)
God is calling us loud and clear. He’s sending
us on a mission. Now, how do we begin?
¡Y no te olvides de
nuestros sacerdotes! Es increible cómo
sus vocaciones parecen cobrar
vida después del fin de semana.
FR. ROSY (FR CHUCK )
renovar nuestra Iglesia.
JENNY WHITE
Es emocionante pensar en un mundo
como ese - de compartir este regalo -
pero ¿como podrían unos pocos de
nosotros sentados alrededor de
esta mesa cambiar el mundo?
FR. ROSY (FRUCE CHUCK )
¡Bueno, también había solo unos pocos
apóstoles! Pero el Espíritu Santo está en
todas partes - entonces nosotros no
estamos solos. Podemos hacer esto,
queridos. ¡DEBEMOS hacerlo!
JOHN CROSS
¡Tienes razón! ¡El tiempo es ahora! ¡Cada
matrimonio y sacerdote merece un
Encuentro Matrimonial! No podemos
guardar esto para Nosotros mismos!
KEVIN HICKSON
¿Pueden oírlo, amantes? (Pausa y mira
alrededor de la mesa)
Dios nos está llamando por completo. Nos
está enviando a una misión. Ahora,
¿cómo comenzamos?

VINNY CALINGASAN
Really? That’s how all of this started? With
a handful of people willing to make any
sacrifice to spread the dream? This really
blows my mind!
JOHN KLEINFELDER
Absolutely Vinny! Fr. Chuck and those couples
were really pioneers. Nothing was going to
stand in their way! They were on a mission to
share the weekend because they knew it
could enrich relationships and bring
Sacraments back to life. Their passion is still
burning. The dream is still alive after 50
years. Just look around us.
FR. DOUG REED
I remember coming back from the weekend
and going over to a parishioner’s house in
Canada. They wanted me to share with their
family about my weekend. I don’t remember
exactly what I said, but I know that, even to
this day, I continue to be amazed by the
significance and importance of relationships.
Regreso a dos parejas y

VINNY CALINGASAN
De verdad? Así es como comenzo
esto? ¿Con un puñado de
personas dispuestas a hacer algún
sacrificio para difundir el
sueño? ¡Esto realmente estremece mi
mente!
JOHN KLEINFELDER
¡Absolutamente Vinny! P. Chuck y esas
parejas fueron realmente
pioneros. ¡Nada iba a interponerse en su
camino! Estaban en una misión
para compartir el fin de semana porque
sabían que podia enriquecer las
relaciones y hacer que los Sacramentos
retomaran su vida. Su pasión sigue
ardiendo. El sueño todavía está vivo
después de 50 años. Solo mira a nuestro
alrededor.
FR. DOUG REED
Recuerdo haber regresado del fin de
semana y haber ido a la casa de un
parroquiano en Canadá. Ellos querían que
les compartiera a su familia acerca
de mi fin de semana. No recuerdo
exactamente lo que dije, pero sé que,
aún hoy en día, continuo sorprendiendome
de la importancia de las relaciones. Me
I feel so happy and joyful about the many
people God has given me to be in relationship
with.
(Turning to younger couple)
Think back, for a minute, to how your own
relationship was brought back to life on your
own weekend. Do the two of you remember
what you were feeling that Sunday
afternoon? What you wanted for your
relationship?
TANYA CALINGASAN
You know Father, I was the reluctant one
to go on our Weekend. I thought, “Hey
we’re happy, we’ve only been married a
couple of years... we’re GOOD!”
But I KNEW we could be better. Life was
starting to get routine. We’d argue about
nothing really. I would often feel lonely,
even sitting side-by-side. Inside I
yearned for Vinny to SEE & KNOW ME -
not just a version I portrayed.
The Weekend itself was a little rough. I
KNOW I was thinking too hard and not
FEELING enough in my sharing time with
Vin. BUT then, we had our breakthrough
in that LOOOONG dialogue. Looking back
on how magically we came together, truly
it had to be God’s love that made US
happen! After that, it was like a switch
turned ON and I could see how HOLY our
TANYA CALINGASAN
Usted sabes Padre, Yo estaba reacio a
ir a nuestro fin de semana. Pensé: " Hey
somos felices, solo hemos estado
casados por un par de años ... ¡estamos
BIEN!"
Pero YO SABIA que podríamos estar
mejores. La vida comenzaba a ser
rutinaria. Nosotros discutiamos por
nada realmente importante. A
menudo me siento solo, incluso sentados
uno al lado del otro. Dentro de mi,
anhelaba que Vinny ME VIERA & ME
CONOCIERA, no solo la versión que yo
reflejaba.
sucediera a nosotros! Después de esto,
fue como un interruptor ENCENDIDO y
pude ver que sagrada era nuestra
relationship was. I could also see how a
more authentic, shinier, happier version
of us was possible.
VINNY CALINGASAN
You know, Father, Tanya always told me she
wanted us to have a real love story - a
marriage that would last a lifetime and
weather any storm. Before the Weekend, I
didn’t know HOW I could give that to her.
But now? I know with our intimate
communication with dialogue, I CAN strive to
give her the marriage we BOTH deserve --
the Weekend was our golden ticket to that
NEW kind of Marriage. I know that our
marriage has a new Foundation!
We also learned how to listen - not just to
each other, but to God’ – and to His call for
US to share our gifts. We learned to support
the next weekend as a prayer couple. We
invited our friends and family. We got
involved in Sharing Groups. Making Marriage
Encounter a priority wasn’t easy - and we had
to make tough choices with how we spent our
time and with whom. BUT just like those early
pioneers, we discovered gifts we never knew
we had – and we are hearing God call on our
gifts to help this ministry keep going and
thrive.
TANYA CALINGASAN
Vinny you’re right, we made choices to make
our relationship the #1 priority over our
relación. También pude ver cómo
una versión más auténtica,
brillante y feliz de nosotros era posible.
VINNY CALINGASAN
Sabe, padre, Tanya siempre me dijo que
quería que tuviéramos una verdadera
historia de amor, un matrimonio que
pudiese durar toda la vida y soportaria
cualquier tormenta. Antes del fin de
semana , no sabía CÓMO podría darle eso
a ella. ¿Pero ahora? Sé que con nuestra
comunicación íntima con el diálogo,
PUEDO esforzarme para darle el
matrimonio que ambos merecemos: el fin
de semana fue nuestro boleto de oro
para ese NUEVO tipo de matrimonio. ¡Sé
que nuestro matrimonio tiene una nueva
Base
Tambien aprendimos como escuchar, no
solo el uno al otro , sino a Dios " , y a
su llamado a compartir nuestros dones .
Aprendimos a apoyar en el próximo fin
de semana como pareja oración.
Invitamos a nuestros amigos y
familiares. Nos involucramos en
Grupos de cCompartir. Hacer de
Encuentro Matrimonial una prioridad no
fue fácil - y hemos tenido que tomar
decisiones difíciles en como gastamos
nuestro tiempo y con quién. PERO al
igual que los primeros pioneros
Descubrimos regalos que no sabíamos
que teníamos – y estamos escuchando a
Dios llamando a nuestros dones para
ayudar a este ministerio a seguir
adelante y prosperar.
TANYA CALINGASAN
personal or career goals. Our marriage had
become little more than background music,
but our weekend gave us a whole new vision of
what marriage could be.
VINNY CALINGASAN
We’re different now from most of our
friends. To realize how much God cares and
that He wants us to go out and share our
sacrament – that had a powerful effect on us.
It was like He was giving us our marching
orders. We were excited, but also full of
doubts about how one couple can really make
a difference.
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
You know what, Vinny? I believe that Fr.
Chuck and those couples around that table
had those same fears and doubts – but they
didn’t let them get in their way - and that’s
why they could go ahead and spread the
dream of changing the world.
Fr Chuck used to say “Tell me you will. Tell me
you won’t. But don’t dare tell me you can’t.”
And as you can see, it worked!
FR. DOUG REED
Do you know the best thing about FR. CHUCK
and those BIG dreamers around the kitchen

Vinny tienes razón, tomamos decisiones
para hacer de nuestra relación la
prioridad # 1 sobre nuestros objetivos
personales o profesionales. Nuestro
matrimonio se había convertido en poco
más que música de fondo, pero nuestro
fin de semana nos dio una visión
completamente nueva de lo que podría
ser el matrimonio.
VINNY CALINGASAN
turned their dream into ACTION and became
true missionaries – and the results were
beyond anything they could have imagined.
Our Lord has multiplied our movement as he
multiplied the loaves and fishes! The apostles
fed hundreds of thousands of people. Our
own Marriage Encounter disciples have fed
thousands too, by bringing them the wekend
and offering their own few loaves and fishes
to our Church!
Fade to kitchen table
Kitchen table - 1971
FR. ROSY (FR. CHUCK)
Well, lovers, a lot has happened since we first
gathered around this kitchen table. We’ve
gone from encountering hundreds of couples
to thousands of couples in just a few years.
The Holy Spirit is planting seeds everywhere.
REGINA HICKSON
Remember how we used to leave the doors of
the empty rooms open at the retreat center?
That way, they were a constant reminder
that there was some couple God wanted on
the weekend that we hadn’t invited yet!
JOHN CROSS
It may have taken us a while to finally fill
no habiamos invitado todavia.
JOHN CROSS
Puede que nos haya tomado un tiempo
llenar definitivamente cada cuarto, pero
every room, but by January 1970 there was a
Marriage Encounter every weekend and by
March there were TWO every weekend.
JENNY WHITE
Now the only times we don’t present
weekends are between Christmas and New
Year’s and on Easter Sunday. Who would have
imagined this?
KEVIN HICKSON
Well, imagine 425 couples a weekend in
Nassau and Suffolk counties. That’s over
21,000 couples encountered in a small corner
of New York – and it doesn’t even count
weekends in New Jersey!
JENNY WHITE
Miraculous things are happening everywhere.
I love the story about the Priest from Brazil
who wanted to start the weekend back home.
But he had no couples yet, so he wrote the
talks in three parts. “First he says. Then she
says. Now my sharing is.” And the weekend
actually worked!
JACK WHITE
Well, there’s a whole big world out there
waiting. It seems kind of selfish to not share
Marriage Encounter with married couples and
Priests across the country. It’s time to take
the weekend on the road!
SUZANNE CROSS
en enero de 1970 hubo un Encuentro
Matrimonial todos los fines de semana y
para marzo hubo DOS cada fin de
semana.
JENNY WHITE
Ahora L as únicas veces que no
presentamos fines de semana son entre
Navidad y Año Nuevo
y el día de Pascua. ¿Quién hubiera
imaginado esto?
KEVIN HICKSON
JENNY WHITE
Cosas milagrosas están sucediendo en
todas partes. Me encanta la historia
sobre el cura de Brazil que quería
comenzar el fin de semana de regreso
a casa. Pero El no tenia
todavia parejas, sin embargo, el
escribió las charlas en
tres partes. "Primero él dice.
Seguidamente
ella dice. Ahora mi compartir es.”Y el fin
de semana realmente funciono!
J ACK BLANCO
Bueno, hay un gran
mundo alla fuera esperando. Parece un
poco egoísta el no compartir Encuentro
Matrimonial con parejas casadas
y sacerdotes de todo el país. ¡Es hora de
poner a andar el fin de semana!
You know, it was one thing to help make
miracles happen in our little corner of the
world – but the whole country???
REGINA HICKSON
Dream BIG, lovers! Let’s figure out which
cities have the most Catholics and start
there! We all know couples in different parts
of the country. What’s the best way to reach
them?
JOHN CROSS
There’s that “fire in the belly” that makes
things happen! This dream can’t be impossible
with God leading the way! West Coast, here
we come!!!
FR. CHUCK (FR. ROSY)
Just like the loaves and fishes, the Lord will
multipliy our gifts so they will provide just
what is needed for His followers. Don’t you
believe He can do the same today with His
precious sacraments of Marriage and Holy
Order?
As scene fades, people around the table
start throwing out names of cities:
(St Louis, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia,
Kansas City, Los Angeles…)
Back to two couples and
priest at convention
SUZANNE CROSS
REGINA HICKSON
¡Soñar en grande,
queridos! ¡Averigüemos qué ciudades
tienen más Catolicos y comencemos
allí! Todos conocemos parejas en
diferentes partes del país. ¿Cuál es la
mejor manera de llegar a ellos?
JOHN CROSS
¡Tenemos esa determonacion y pasion "
que hacen que las cosas sucedan! ¡Este
sueño no puede ser imposible si Dios
lidera el camino! Costa Oeste, alla
vamos!
FR. CHUCK (FR. ROSY)
Al igual que los panes y los
peces, el Señor multiplicara nuestros don
es para que proporcionen lo que es
requerido por sus seguidores. ¿No crees
mesa comienzan a mencionar
los nombres de las ciudades:
( San Luis, Chicago, Boston, Filadelfia,
Kansas City, Los Angeles ... )
Volver a las dos parejas y
sacerdote en la convención
JOHN KLEINFELDER
Thinking about the thousand of couples and
priests in those early years brings tears to
my eyes. They really DID show us that the
dream to change the world is not impossible.
I get goose bumps remembering those lovers
and how they said Yes without counting the
cost. Like all of them, Rosemary and I said
“yes” to a lifestyle that would call us to keep
changing. Experiencing this convention with
all of you is truly incredible - remembering
our roots - sharing our stories - walking the
walk together and rekindling our dreams.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter has a lot to
celebrate - and so do we. Right now the five
of us are proclaiming the value of Marriage
and Holy Orders. That, my friends, is pretty
darn awesome.
VINNY CALINGASAN
The convention has just begun and yet we can
hardly wait to take all of this back to our
community. The personal sacrifices people
made are so inspiring – but so is knowing that
passion is still alive today.
And it’s amazing to realize WORLDWIDE and
GLOBAL Marriage Encounter is today! Just
recently we heard how couples in Belgium
were inspired to bring the weekend to Haiti a
few years ago – not so easy from a continent
away – and it was Canada that helped make it
happen. The Canadian team took a couple of
weeks off of work to present two weekends.
JOHN KLEINFELDER
Pensando en esas miles de parejas y
sacerdotes en aquellos primeros años
traen s lágrimas a mis ojos. Realmente
They faced language issues, poverty, violence
- even the aftermath of an earthquake. But
they believed God was sending them on a
Mission – and they gave hope to hundreds of
couples.
TANYA CALINGASAN
I’m just excited for the future! What’s going
to come next - at this convention – and when
we return home? We really want to keep our
passion for our marriage and our ministry
alive and growing. What can we do, as a
couple, to change the world? I think God
brought us to this convention for a reason. I
just pray our hearts are open to whatever
God has planned for us – and that He gives us
the courage to follow through.
FR. DOUG REED
It’s pretty easy to see and hear your passion
– just like the couples and Priests who have
grown Worldwide Marriage Encounter the
last 50 years. They’ve laid the foundation and
built a path – but every one of us is leaving
our own footprints along the way. WE are
being called by God to build His church, but
we know He is leading the way. Now, like
those early dreamers, He’s waiting for us to
turn our dreams into action. God is with us.
Christ shines through us. The Holy Spirit
inspires us.
tan fácil a un continente de
distancia, y fue Canadá quien ayudó a
hacerlo realidad.
El equipo canadiense tomó un par de
semanas libres en el trabajo para
presentar dos fines de semana. Se
enfrentaron a problemas de lenguaje,
pobreza y violencia, incluso después de
un terremoto. Pero creían que Dios los
estaba enviando a una Misión - y dieron
esperanza a cientos de parejas.
TANYA CALINGASAN
Estoy emocionada por el futuro! Lo que
vendrá después - en esta convención - y
cuando regresemos a casa?
Realmente queremos mantener nuestra
pasión por nuestro matrimonio y nuestro
ministerio vivo y creciendo.
seguir adelante.
FR. DOUG REED
Es bastante fácil ver y escuchar tu
passion- al igual que las parejas y
los sacerdotes que han hecho crecer el
Encuentro Matrimonial Mundial en los
últimos 50 años. Ellos han sentado las
bases y construyeron un camino - pero
cada uno de nosotros está dejando
nuestras propias huellas a lo largo del
camino. NOSOTROS estamos siendo
llamados por Dios para construir su
iglesia, pero sabemos que
Él esta liderando el camino. Ahora, como
esos primeros soñadores, Él está
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Our dear Fr Chuck must be smiling down at
this anniversary celebration. Imagine what he
must have been thinking when this mission
first began.

FR. CHUCK (FR. ROSY)
The Holy Spirit will give us the courage,
dears - just like the Apostles. In fact, that’s
what we are – His modern-day Apostles! God
is calling us to something greater than
ourselves. We just need to remember that
the most important people on the Marriage
Encounter weekend are the ones who haven’t
yet gone. We’ve already been blessed with
our own weekend. What we do now is for the
sake of all those precious Sacraments who
will come after us.
I truly believe that our two Sacraments of
Marriage and Holy Orders will change the
world - and dear lovers - just imagine what
Marriage Encounter will do for our Church.
Who knows where God will lead us over the
next 50 years?
esperando que nosotros convirtamos
nuestros sueños en acciones. Dios esta con
nosotros. Cristo brilla a través de
nosotros. El Espíritu Santo nos inspira
ROSEMARY KLEINFELDER
Nuestro querido padre Chuck debe estar

de aniversario. Imaginas lo que él había

FR. CHUCK (FR. ROSY)
El Espíritu Santo nos dará el coraje,
Queridos - al igual que los Apóstoles. De
hecho, eso es lo que somos - ¡sus
apóstoles modernos! Dios nos está
llamando a algo más grande que nosotros
mismos.Nosotros solo neceistamos
recordar que las personas más
Importantes en el fin de semana
de Encuentro Matrimonial son las que aún
no han paticipado todavia . Ya hemos sido
bendecidos con nuestro propio fin de
semana. Lo que hacemos ahora es por el
bien de todos esos preciosos
Sacraments que vendrán después
de nosotros.
Realmente creo que nuestros dos
Sacramentos del Matrimonio y de las
Ordenes Sagradas cambiarán el mundo -
y Queridos todos- solo imaginense lo que
el Encuentro Matrimonial hará por
nuestra Iglesia.
