VOCATION THOUGHT
The Parish Vocations Committee would like to share
an Easter reflection by Sister Clare Bass of the Sisters
of Saint Joseph: "How does Easter affect my discernment and
finding my vocation? First off it lets me know that
I am a beloved of God and Jesus. God does not
want me or any of us to be miserable in our life
callings. The Resurrection lets me know that I am
worthy of love and mercy and that I am forgiven.
This understanding leads to self-confidence and
helps me realize who I am and whose I am. Jesus
modeled how to live life to the fullest and how to
have a strong relationship with God. In my
personal relationship with God I seek and am able
to listen to where I am being called. I trust God
with all of my heart. I listen deeply. I eventually
am able to let go of what I need to. I am able to
recognize that each vocation lifestyle has a
profound value. I am then able to move forward
in discernment and let my heart be moved in love.
There is an inner peace and knowing that comes
about and you just know the next step you need to
make. Listen to God and your heart and
everything else will fall into place."

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Information Meeting
was cancelled due to the recent snowstorm.
However, it is rescheduled for Wednesday, May 9th
at 7:30 PM in Bishop Chappetto Hall. Once again,
there is a coalition of Faith and Community
organizations partnering with Habitat for Humanity to
transform vacant and blighted houses into newly
renovated homes for low income families in Queens.
Presently three parishes in Queens Deanery #5 are
part of the Queens Coalition for Habitat for Humanity
and they are American Martyrs, Sacred Heart and Our
Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. We here at Our Lady
of the Snows wish to join in with them as part of our
own social justice awareness! Parishioners from the
other three parishes will be present at the information
meeting on May 9th and tell us how easy it is to
participate in Habitat for Humanity. Come and find
out more and if you have any questions please feel
free to contact Deacon Kevin Hughes who has
volunteered to be our
parish coordinator. You
can reach Deacon Kevin
at (917) 807-2389.
WARM WELCOME. If you are new to our parish please feel free to introduce yourself
to one of the priests or deacons after Mass today. We kindly invite you to come to the
Parish Office and register as a member of Our Lady of the Snows. Registration is
important for all parishioners because then we are able to issue sponsor letters for
Baptism, Confirmation and Matrimony. We can also give end of the year statements of
your contributions to the church through regular use of the envelopes. We can also help
you with letters of recommendation for employment, school, etc. Your registration will
also help us with our parish census in knowing the number of Catholics in Floral Park
and surrounding areas. Thank you and welcome!
WELCOME!
SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS. As part of the
Church’s call to evangelization we invite you to take
an extra bulletin to a friend or neighbor in the
community who may inquire about Our Lady of the
Snows Parish. Also, check in on our elderly and
those affected by the weather by making a phone call
or visit.

God and Father of all gifts, we praise you
the source of all we are.
Teach us to acknowledge always
with generous gratitude
the many good things your infinite love
has given to us, as we support the work
of our Diocese in Brooklyn and Queens.
Open our hearts that we
may answer your call to follow
the message of the Gospel as disciples
in love and service,
so that all may come to know you.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy
Over the past trimester the children have had the opportunity to learn about many exciting topics. Some of
our subjects crossed the curriculum with our ELA writing program.
In Science, the children learned all about penguins. They learned both fun facts and many educational facts
that they will always remember. They used a graphic organizer and put together a “can”, “have”, “are”
classroom chart which helped them to create their own graphic organizers which turned into their writing piece.
They then colored in their penguins and glued on their final copy of their writing. In Health, they learned the
sequential order of brushing their teeth. Again, they used a graphic organizer. This time however, the organizer
contained pictures that the children had to put in step by step order for brushing their teeth. As a class, we then
created a Smartboard draft of the writing piece. After the students completed their final copy, they then created
their toothbrush project. During our Social Studies lessons, the children learned what it means to be a “good
citizen.” They learned character traits of one and we also talked about how to be a good citizen in our classroom.
With the season of Lent upon us, the children have been learning the meaning of giving something up the way
Jesus gave his life for us. As a class we created prayer hands and each child wrote one of the three prayers that
we came up with on their own set of hands. The children also drew a picture with a caption of what they chose to
give up for Lent.
We are very fortunate to have our resource room teacher available to pitch in to help us when we cross the
curriculum by adding a writing piece to our learning segment. The children feel very accomplished when they
see their work displayed in the hallway.
