Dear Parishioners,
I want to inform you Father Ray
is being transferred to the
Diocese of Charleston in South
Carolina effective December 22nd. Father Ray has
faithfully served us in the parish for
approximately seven years and we have enjoyed
his priestly presence and ministry.
The reason why Father Ray is being sent to a new diocese is because there is a greater need in the Diocese of
Charleston where parishes are growing and the priest shortage is severe. In fact Father Ray will be assigned
to Saint Mary Magdalene Parish in Simpsonville, South Carolina which is a fast growing parish in the
diocese according to the parish website. The pastor has been concerned this Christmas about coverage for
twelve Masses and the retirement of two priests in the New Year.
As a way to express heartfelt thanks and to extend best wishes to Father Ray in his new assignment I invite
you to a special reception next Sunday, December 17th in the White Room. Father Ray will celebrate the
12:30 PM Mass and afterwards we will share some food and drink with him.
For those who may not be able to attend and wish to reach him, Father Ray’s new contact information is:
Father Ray Nacino

TELL YOUR STORY SERIES
Rev. Jeremy Canna – Vocation Story I sometimes think of my ministry here at Our Lady of the Snows as a bit of "giving back." That's actually because a quite significant part of my vocation story includes a priest who grew up here in Floral Park.
That priest is Father Fred Marano, who I first met in high school at Cathedral Prep Seminary (Elmhurst, NY). Thanks to my parents, who both introduced me to Cathedral Prep and encouraged me to select it as my high school, I was privileged to be one of his students for religion in my freshman year. That class, probably more than any other that I have attended, has left a lasting impression on me. Here I saw the Catholic faith presented in such an engaging and devoted manner, and I saw a beauty in that faith that was worth everything.
While at the time I was not at all certain of what the future held for me, I often find myself returning spiritually to that year of my life: The first year during which I would attend Mass every school day, the first year during which I would be especially conscious of the intricacies and richness of the Church's seasons and traditions as they came up, and the first year during which I could see how all other subjects in school and all that was to be learned only made sense when seen in the light of the Truth, Jesus Christ.
The joy and peace of that year, I find, have carried me through many of the various difficulties that come with life in general, and continue to do so presently. They spurred me on to enter the college seminary nearby here in Douglaston, and, after an additional year during which I was looking for further clarification from the Lord regarding what He wished me to do with my life, to finally enter the major seminary. I was ordained a transitional deacon on August 31, 2013, and a priest on June 28, 2014.
While I saw myself growing throughout my life in the seminary, it must be stated that the various parish experiences that I have had proved to be indispensable in making me the priest that I am today. My home parish, St. Thomas Aquinas in Flatlands, Brook-lyn, was my first regular experience of the Church as a child and the place where I probably first contemplated God's presence. It also allowed me to join various ministries (altar server, lector, etc.) at my own pace as I grew up. Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Forest Hills was the place where I first lived in a rectory and had the opportunity to spend most of a year ministering among one parish family and delving into many of the facets of parish life. Our Lady of Mercy Church, on the other side of Forest Hills, served as my assignment as a transitional deacon and was where I first baptized a baby and gave most of my first homilies.
Many people yearn, consciously or not, to be able to have their mind and heart united in whatever it is that they do in life. I am thankful to almighty God for helping me to work toward this unity as early as that first year in high school and for making known His presence to me at so many other moments since. Most of all, I am thankful for the sense of peace that comes from Him through a loving response to His call. Although any priest will tell you that there are difficulties in ministry, I can firmly attest that God's will is our peace. And I hope that through His grace, whatever good that is in me can truly be fulfilled as I presently answer His call among all of the wonderful people here at Our Lady of the Snows.

VOCATIONS EVENTS
VOCATIONS THOUGHT
VOCATIONS REFLECTION:
BLESSED SOLANUS CASEY
On November 18th, Father Solanus Casey became
only the second American-born man to be beatified
(declared "Blessed"). Born in 1870 in Wisconsin, he
sensed the Spirit stirring within him as a child during
his instruction in preparation for First
Communion. Upon becoming a priest, he was first
assigned to Sacred Heart Parish in Yonkers, NY,
where he spent fourteen years, and became known for
his prayerful example at Mass and for charity toward
the sick, the poor, children, and non-Catholics. His
charity shone through the Great Depression in 1929
and during World War II in the 1940s, when he was
known for giving good advice to those families whose
sons and daughters were serving in the war. At the
age of 86, he passed away with the words, "I give my
soul to Jesus Christ." May his charity inspire each of
us to do what we can for both the spiritual and
material welfare of others!
