Unit 1: Color & Design
Tertiary Colors
Made by mixing a primary and a secondary color.
Yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, red-orange and yellow-orange
Complimentary Colors
Colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Assumed to be as different from one another as possible.
Color Properties Hue name of the
color. Tints are light
values that are made by mixing a color with white.
Shades are dark values that are made by mixing a color with black.
Variations of the same hue (color).
(A painting all in blues such as Navy Blue, Sky Blue, Ocean Blue etc.)
Monochromatic Color Scheme
Colors can play tricks on our eyes
Place two complementary colors next to each other and both of them will seem more brilliant.
