6 TIPS FOR A BETTER TAKEAWAY EXPERIENCE
1.It may be tempting to transfer your entire menu as a takeaway option, but this is not always the best course of action.
Consider how each menu item will keep during transport: Not everything travels well, so its best to leave these items out. Think about whether there is a way to package it in a deconstructed form and allow your customers to build the meal at home so that it will still be delicious when served.
Try to keep your best sellers: Keeping your most popular dishes ensures that your regular customers can still get their favourites dishes via takeaway.
Look for common ingredients and cost-saving: Creating menu items with the same ingredients is key to reducing unnecessary expenses so look for ways to build dishes with the same ingredients
DON’T LIST YOUR ENTIRE MENU 2.
Use the opportunity to provide some out the box solutions to your returning customers. Meal Kits: Offer a separate meal kit solution with cooking instructions.
Family packs: Look for ways to group some meals together to feed the whole family for a small price reduction.
Think Grocery: Add a few relevant bulk grocery times to the menu as an effort to provide added value and a greater convenience to your customers
ADD NEW ITEMS THAT AREN’T ON YOUR REGULAR MENU 3.
It’s important to make sure that each food item is properly packaged for collection and delivery - packaging in this context is as important as plating presentation.
Pack all food items in appropriate containers: Leaky foods should be in a container that can be completely sealed, any hot or cold food should be placed in containers with proper insulation.
Seal all food containers: Add a sticker to the edge of your containers to show that they have been sealed for freshness and safety, to reduce unnecessary extra handling.
Include utensils, napkins, and condiments: This will allow your customers to eat in their cars while their food is hot if desired, and also shows that you care about their full dining experience.

4.Always follow sanitization procedures and food safety guidelines as set out by the Government regulations. It’s also best to put additional protocols in place to ensure the Curbside experience is properly cleaned and monitored.
Establish team member check-in and work procedures: Make sure that all employees who show up to work have their temperature taken and do not show any signs of illness. Additionally, limit close contact between employees and establish stringent hand-washing rules.
Require wearing gloves and masks: Your staff will be in closer contact with your customers and you should make every effort to ensure that the experience is contactless.
Tell your customers about your sanitization procedures: Include a note with the collection outlining your hygiene procedures to give your customers extra peace-of-mind and actively promote the service on social media.
FOLLOW FOOD SAFETY AND SANITIZATION POLICIES 5.
To ensure the success of your Curbside Pickup, make sure you have a clear plan in place for each step of the order.
Make the pickup instructions are clear: Should your customer call or text when they arrive in your parking lot? Will you collect vehicle information during the order and approach them as soon as they park?
Mark the pickup location is clearly: It helps to place large signs on the side of the building or in front of the individual parking spaces you’d like to designate for food pickup spots.
Establish team member delivery instructions: Make sure your employees know what is expected of them when delivering food to a customer, like handing items through the window, door or into the car boot
SET CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS FOR CUSTOMER PICKUP AND INTERACTIONS
6.Once you have a curbisde pickup experience in place, it’s important to let your customers know about it.
Display a banner outside your restaurant: Customers driving by will be excited to learn that they can still order and enjoy your food without the traditional sit-down experience.
Announce your new initiative digitally: Post an announcement on your social media pages.
Encourage word-of-mouth and referrals:Ask customers who are using your new service to let their friends know that this option is now available.
