Charles’ Chatter! We’re nearing the end of Trimester One! Dear Parents/Guardians: We’ve been doing so much this first trimester in Ms. Charles’ class! In ELA, we have learned about themes, central ideas, figurative language, and of course learning new vocabulary! In Social Studies, we have learned about Hunter/Gatherers, Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Assyria, and will be finishing up with Ancient Egypt. Students have learned how to work independently as well as learning with partners and in groups. They have completed cave drawings, created constellations, and have enjoyed using their PBIS points to purchase items from the Charles Store. It’s been a fun and exciting time as we have all gotten to know each other better and look forward to a GREAT second trimester! It was wonderful to see so many of you at Parent-Teacher Conferences and be able to discuss what is going on in our English Language Arts and Social Studies classes. If you were unable to attend, you can always check their progress on ParentVue. As we near the end of Trimester One, please remind your student how important these last assignments and projects are! The habits they create now will follow them into the future,

Charles’ Chatter!

We’re nearing the end of Trimester One!

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We’ve been doing so much this first trimester in Ms.

The habits they create now will follow them into the future,

so making sure they are successful now is very important! These last grades over the next three weeks can really help to boost their final grade if they accomplish their tasks well.

UPCOMING ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS:For ELA, we will continue learning about central ideas and citing textual evidence using StudySync stories. We are currently reading Hatshepsut: His Majesty, Herself and will then move on to The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. The Unit Two District Assessment will be taken the week of October 21, 2019.

For Social Studies, the Egypt Project will start on Monday, October 14, 2019! Students will be introduced to the project and provided with a DIGITAL copy of the project packet (it will be in Schoology as well as on the classroom website). Late projects will not be accepted, so make sure your student has theirs ready to go by Monday, October 28, 2019 (it is worth 30% of their social studies grade!). Students will be presenting their research and projects, as well as participating in a gallery walk with the other sixth grade classes!

HOMEWORK!Please note that your student has had homework every week (except for two) over the last 9 weeks of school! Quite a few students have not been accomplishing these simple homework assignments consisting of vocabulary words and it has impacted their grades.

That being said, since they will be doing the research and creating a project at home over the next few weeks, I WILL NOT BE ASSIGNING ANY OTHER HOMEWORK. The ONLY homework they have to worry about until November 4, 2019, is their Egypt Project!
