Introduction

Weatherford’s Inflatable Packers

Weatherford offers a complete line of inflatable products that provide significant value to operators by reducing overall well costs.

Our ACP™ annulus casing packers furnish zonal isolation in critical wellbore locations, reducing well costs by eliminating squeeze jobs or reducing uneconomical water or gas production. In some applications, significant improvements in well economics are achieved by eliminating primary cementing, perforating and wellbore cleanup operations—resulting in lower costs and higher initial production rates.

Our IPP™ injection production packers offer operators significant savings that conventional methods are unable to provide.

By bringing together products with proven reliability and dependability and engineering expertise, we ensure customer service, quality products and services that effectively and economically meet all drilling and completion requirements. We have combined decades of experience in engineering, manufacturing and field operations to deliver a complete system solution to every customer.

After more than 30 years as a Canadian-based provider of inflatable products to the industry worldwide, Weatherford expanded its product offering in 1998 to include the value-added products and services provided by McAllister Petroleum. Already well known in Canada, we have quickly gained worldwide recognition as a complete solutions-oriented provider. We can integrate inflatable product requirements with liner hangers, sand screens, cementing tools and production equipment.

Weatherford’s inflatable technical support group provides customers with the best pre-job planning, written procedures and job execution available in the industry. Our team can help you determine the proper inflatable equipment for the job including all specifications. They also can assist you in determining functional compatibility of associated drilling and completion tools across other product lines. Ancillary equipment, such as liner hangers and packers, stage tools, port collars, sliding sleeves and gravel-packing equipment, is critical to successfully completing the well and must be fully compatible with inflatable installation procedures.

ACP Systems

Annulus Casing Packer (ACP™) Products

In oilfields worldwide, Weatherford’s BULLDOG™ ACP systems are recognized as the leading inflatable packers for consistent zonal isolation protection—even in the most severe conditions. A tough breed of inflatables, the BULLDOG ACP tools consistently deliver the strongest performance record in the industry. Possessing outstanding strength and expansion capability, these systems provide a permanent, high-pressure seal against the most hostile wellbore conditions.

Our discontinuous and continuous rib BULLDOG ACP systems include the reliable, well-proven McAllister element, used by Weatherford for many years; however the valve sustem has been redesigned for an improved, more field-friendly valve system, which offers easy access to the shear pins for simpler, faster field dressing and maintenance, and no special tools are needed.

ACP Manufacturing OperationsWeatherford’s ACP manufacturing operations are in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where Weatherford maintains certification status to ISO 9001 standards to ensure quality and consistency in all products.

Each ACP tool bears its own individual serial number for complete component traceability back to the original mill and thread certificates, as well as heat-treating batch and reverification tests.

Weatherford manufactures ACP tools with element lengths ranging from 4 to 40 ft (1.2 to 12.2 m); and casing sizes from 2-3/8 to 24 in. (60.3 to 609.6 mm). ACP tools with elements 4-ft long are built with continuous ribs. Elements 10-ft long are either continuous or discontinuous; and packers longer than 10 ft are discontinuous only. In addition, a full line of accessory tools, such as port collars, stage tools and inflation tools, complement our ACP product line.

Horizontal Zonal Isolation Applications

Isolating the build section from the horizontal producing zone at the bottom of an intermediate casing stringPosition the ACP system near the shoe of the intermediate casing string at the bottom of the build section. The packer provides a mechanical seal ensuring isolation of the producing zone from all formations in the build section and enabling the drilling and barefoot completion of the production zone.

Shale Shale Shale

Isolating the build section from a low-pressure horizontal producing zone at the bottom of an intermediate casing stringPosition the ACP system and a stage collar or port collar near the shoe of an intermediate casing string at the bottom of the build section. Inflate the packer with cement or mud, and open the stage tool or port collar. This allows effective cement placement in the build section and prevents contamination of the producing zone.

Isolating the build section from a horizontal producing zonePosition the ACP system and stage collar near the bottom of the build section. Inflate the packer with cement or mud, and open the stage tool or port collar. This allows cement placement across upper zones in the build section and prevents cement contamination of the horizontal producing zone. Alternatively, a port collar can be used in place of the stage collar and in conjunction with an inner work string and inflation tool, thereby eliminating the need for time-consuming drillout.

Isolating production zonesA zone that is prone to excessive water or gas production can be isolated using an ACP and a mechanical bridge plug while other zones remain in production.

Providing segregation within horizontal zonesPosition multiple packers between sections of slotted liners or screens to segment the lateral and isolate different production intervals. This provides maximum reservoir optimization by increasing the flexibility of future production operations, and allows for selective treating, production and abandonment.

Plugging and abandoningUse an ACP system to plug and abandon a section of the wellbore after drilling into a water zone or fault at the end of a horizontal section. Run the packer on drillpipe that has a hydraulic release for disengagement from the packer. A right-hand backoff provides a backup mechanical release mechanism. An optional cement retainer kit can also be added to allow cement to be squeezed below the packer before the running tool is released.

Plugging backInstall an ACP system to seal off a water zone in a portion of the wellbore where drilling depth control has been lost and a kick-off depth point is needed. Place cement above the packer to kick off, and continue drilling to the target objective.

Sidetracking through milled windowsAfter setting the whipstock and milling the window, the ACP system and stage collar can be run through the window without being damaged. The packer is inflated and a cement job performed above the packer to isolate the producing zone.

Vertical Zonal Isolation Applications

Supporting cementPosition the ACP system above a lost-circulation or low-pressure zone to prevent cement loss to these thief zones. You can inflate the packer, open the stage collar and proceed with cementing.

LostCirculation

Isolating close water contactPosition the ACP system across a water contact to reduce or prevent water production.

Isolating producing zonesPosition the ACP system in or adjacent to producing zones to reduce extraneous gas or water production. You can perforate sections of cement-filled packers (creating gasket-type seals around each perforation) while the other sections of the packer permanently isolate the producing zone.

Stab-in cementing for isolation of problem zonesUse the ACP and a mechanical port collar (MPC) to eliminate the conventional stage tool and the rig time required for its drillout (especially at shallow depths on surface and intermediate casing strings). The inner string is run in using a stab-in system and cup-tool/port-collar shifting assembly.

Supporting a whipstockRun the ACP tool below a whipstock in open hole to provide an anchor for the whipstock.

BULLDOG™ ACP Valve Operating Sequence

Annulus Casing Packer (ACP™) Products

Before inflation

All BULLDOG ACPs have knock-off plugs installed during manufacture to block the access port connecting the inside of the casing to the valve system. These plugs prevent premature operation of the valves when above-normal circulating pressures are encountered during casing run-in. The plugs are knocked off as the first cement wiper plug passes through the ACP. In some applications, knock-off rods are removed at the surface.

When the knock-off plugs are removed, pressure from inside the casing is applied against the opening valve until the buildup is sufficient to shear the opening valve shear pin.

Opening pressure and inflation-control valve operating pressure are determined by shear-pin diameter, which is dependent upon hole size, wellbore hydrostatics and formation fracture gradient. The inflation-control valve is a safety shutoff valve that prevents over-expansion and rupturing of the element or fracturing of the formation.

Begin inflation

Upon reaching the opening valve pressure, the pin shears and the opening valve shifts upward, allowing fluid to pass through the valve system, across the closing valve and into the inflatable element.

BULLDOG™ ACP Valve Operating Sequence

Inflation complete

As inflation fluid fills the inflatable element, pressure builds up on the bottom of the closing valve. When pressure in the inflatable element is sufficient, the pin shears and the closing valve moves up. This traps pressure in the inflatable element and prevents any further pressure from being applied to the element.

Valve locked

After inflation, casing pressure is bled off and the spring moves the opening valve into its lock-shut position. As the opening valve is pushed to its closed position, the spring also pushes the collet up into the shear-pin cap. The shear opening valve shoulders out on the collapsed collet preventing the valve from opening again. The opening valve, in its final lock-shut position, provides a backup to the closing valve to ensure that inflation pressure is trapped. It also prevents pressure applied inside the casing from reopening the valve.

Annulus Casing Packer (ACP™) Products

Discontinuous BULLDOG™ ACP Packers

Product SummaryWeatherford’s discontinuous BULLDOG ACP annulus casing packer is a discontinuous-rib premium inflatable assembly that runs as an integral part of the casing string. When inflated, the packer provides an annular seal between the casing and the wellbore or a previously installed casing string. For inflation, the packer uses water, cement, or drilling fluid. Cement inflation provides a high-pressure, permanent annular barrier.

This packer includes the reliable, well-proven McAllister element that Weatherford has used for years; however, the valve system has been redesigned with fewer parts and easy access to the shear pins for simpler, faster field dressing and maintenance. No special tools are needed.

The rubber element is reinforced by steel ribs only at the top and bottom. The non-reinforced portion of the element in between allows maximized expansion of the element (up to 3-1/2 times the run-in diameter) for effective isolation in open holes, elliptical hole shapes, washouts, and soft or unconsolidated formations.

The packer consists of an opening valve and a closing valve with a dual-valve system standard on elements of 20 ft (6 m) or longer. Pressure applied inside the casing shears open the opening valve, enabling fluid to enter the element. Pressure from inside the element shears the closing valve closed, preventing rupture and overinflation. The opening valve also provides redundancy to the closing valve by locking closed when pressure is released.

Multiple BULLDOG packers can be installed on a single casing string or liner.

The packer uses proprietary rubber compounds in standard service of 275°F (135°C) and hostile-environment elements in temperatures above 375°F (191°C). Differential pressure ratings vary by packer size relative to hole size with a maximum differential of 5,000 psi (34 MPa).

The BULLDOG ACP annulus casing packer is available in tubing or casing sizes from 2-3/8 to 13-3/8 in. (60.33 to 339.73 mm) and all casing grades. Sizes from 13-3/8 to 26 in. (339.73 to 660.40 mm) are available through special order. Standard threads are API 8rd or buttress, box × pin, with premium threads also available. Discontinuous elements are available in 10-, 20-, and 40-ft (3.1-, 6.1-, and 12.2-m) lengths. (40-ft elements are only available through special order.) Slimline designs are available for close-tolerance run-in clearance applications.

Mechanical Cementing Port Collar

Model 761: Full-Bore, Work-String-Actuated Cementing ValveWeatherford’s mechanical cementing port collar, model 761, is made up and run in the well on either the casing or liner. It is a full-bore cementing valve that is opened and closed with axial work-string movement and requires no drillout after use. The model 761 mechanical cementing port collar requires no plugs or seats and leaves the ID clean of excess cement after closure.

An internal sleeve is opened and closed by engaging a collet-shifting tool made up on the work string. The collet is usually placed between opposed cups on a service tool. After the shifting tool is lowered into the well and the collets engage the sleeve, the sleeve can shift to the open position.

With the sleeve open, a full primary cement job can be performed by pumping down the work string, out the service tool, through the open port collar, and into the annulus behind the casing or liner. On completion of the cement job, axial movement in the opposite direction closes the sleeve and seals the port collar closed. The service tool is then retrieved from the well, leaving the ID of the port collar full bore to the casing or liner ID and free of cement or other debris.

ApplicationsStage cementing jobs with an • ACP packerCementing above screens or slotted pipe• Single-trip liner systems with screens or slotted pipe• Wash-down liner systems requiring cement above screens or slotted • pipeSurface and intermediate two-stage cementing jobs in which lengthy • drillout times of conventional stage equipment may occur

Features, Advantages and BenefitsMultiple large-diameter ports enable the cement slurry to displace the • drilling fluid quickly and efficiently. The pressure-balanced internal sliding sleeve provides reliable • operation. The high-strength outer steel shell matches or exceeds casing burst and • collapse specifications.Viton• ® fluoroelastomer seal assemblies make the collar suitable for sour service.

Plug-and-Abandon (P&A) Kit

Annulus Casing Packer (ACP™) Accessories

One-Trip Open-Hole Cement PlugWeatherford’s plug-and-abandon (P&A) kit consists of field-proven hydraulic and mechanical disconnects that are made up to a Weatherford ACP annulus casing packer. The standard P&A kit provides all the components needed to set an open-hole cement plug in a horizontal or deviated well in a single trip: disconnects, crossovers, latch-down darts, landing seats, subs, float equipment, dump valves, and other required tools.

When the assembly is run to the proper position in the well, a latch-down dart is pumped from the surface with cement behind it. When the dart lands below the disconnect and the ACP packer, surface pressure is applied to inflate the packer with the cement. Additional surface pressure is then applied to hydraulically disconnect the packer. (A secondary mechanical-rotation disconnect is provided for emergency release.) After the packer is inflated and disconnected, cement can be placed directly on top of the packer, or the excess inflation cement in the drillpipe or work string can be reverse-circulated out of the well. The end result is a plug set in a single trip.

The packer, which is usually run on casing or liner, can be crossed over to run on drillpipe or work string for placement in the well. Packers 3 1/2-in. and larger cross over to 2 7/8-in. 8rd EUE box up; smaller packers cross over to 2 3/8-in. 8rd EUE box up.

ApplicationsPlugging and abandoning a section of hole that requires a cement plug• Shutting off water, oil, or gas when run with • ACP packers with 20-ft (6.1-m) seal elementsProviding a kickoff point after plugging back directional hole drilled out • of zone

Features, Advantages and BenefitsCompatibility with all standard • ACP packers with 10-ft and longer seal elements makes the P&A kit easily adaptable to existing inventory. All required equipment is included in the standard kit; therefore, no • special ACP inventory is required.Hydraulic-disconnect shear screws are field accessible to facilitate • job setup.Float shoe and/or latch-down dart prevent backflow after disconnect.• One-trip system significantly reduces rig time when balanced cement • plugs are being set in high-angle or horizontal open hole.

Plug-and-Abandon Retainer Kit

One-Trip Open-Hole Cement RetainerWeatherford’s plug-and-abandon (P&A) retainer kit consists of field-proven hydraulic and mechanical disconnect products and a hydraulically activated dump valve made up to a conventional ACP annulus casing packer. These components allow setting of the packer in open hole and inflating it with cement so that it can serve as a retainer for cementing off a problem zone below the packer in a horizontal or deviated well.

The P&A retainer kit includes all disconnects, crossovers, latch-down darts, landing seats, subs, float equipment, dump valves, and other tools required to make up the assembly. The conventional ACP assembly, which is normally run on casing or liner, is crossed over to run on drillpipe or work string for placement in the well. When the assembly is run to the proper position in the well, a latch-down dart is pumped from the surface with cement behind it. A second dart is dropped behind the cement slurry.

When the first dart lands below the assembly, surface pressure is applied to inflate the packer with the cement. After the packer is inflated, additional surface pressure is applied to hydraulically open the dump valve so that cement can be squeezed below the inflated packer.

The second dart then lands, and additional surface pressure is applied to hydraulically disconnect the packer. (The hydraulic disconnect is backed up by a mechanically rotated disconnect for emergency release.) After the packer is disconnected, cement can be dumped directly on top of it, or the excess inflation cement in the drillpipe or work string can be reverse-circulated out of the well.

The plug is set and the cement is squeezed in one trip.

ApplicationsPlugging and abandoning a section of hole with a cement plug that also • requires high-pressure squeeze cementing operationsShutting off water, oil, or gas when run with • ACP assemblies with 20-ft (6.1-m) seal elements

AWT Inflation Cup Tool

Product SummaryWeatherford’s acid-wash treatment (AWT) inflation cup tool is a packer-cup isolation tool used for injecting fluids into selected intervals. The tool was designed primarily for selective acidizing treatments but is appropriate for many other types of treatments and fluids. The AWT can also be used to inflate ACP annulus casing packers with mud or cement when pressurizing the casing is either impossible or unwanted.

ApplicationsUsed to acidize intervals when selective injection is necessary• Used to isolate and inflate annulus casing packers• Used to isolate and cement through mechanical port collars• Can be used to inflate annulus casing packers and to open, cement, • and close a mechanical port collar in the same run

Features, Advantages and BenefitsBecause the AWT has no moving parts, operation is simple and reliable.• The AWT does not use casing slips, which provides reliable operation in • corroded or damaged casing and reduces stress to weaker casing. The large, internal bypass system offers several advantages and • benefits:

As the AWT is deployed, the bypass decreases the surge pressure on –the formation, reducing the potential for formation damage and costly mud or fluid loss. The bypass allows the AWT to be run at a higher speed; without it, –hydraulic lock would prevent the tool from going downhole. The bypass system also prevents swabbing a formation into the –wellbore and resulting well-control issues.

Premium packer cups enable the packer to achieve high squeeze • pressures in deep wells. The AWT does not have a setting weight requirement, which allows • operation in shallow depths and horizontal wells. The double-cup system provides redundant sealing for reliable • performance.

IPP Systems

Injection Production Packer (IPP™) Products

Weatherford’s IPP injection production packer systems are field-proven and extremely versatile downhole service tools. Installed in either cased or open hole, the IPP tools can be used on a temporary or long-term basis.

The IPP system provides a positive, pressure-tight seal for annular isolation between the work string and casing or open hole to assist in remedial or abandonment applications during drilling and production.

Used for single- or multiple-packer configurations in wells of any deviation, the IPP tools work as a production packer or bridge plug to ensure isolation.

Our IPP systems include the single-set rotation release, the single-set pull release, the multi-set rotation release, and the heavy-duty rotation release. We also offer the surface-inflation packer (SIP) and the ISP™ inflatable straddle packer assemblies.

IPP Single-Set Rotation-Release

Product SummaryWeatherford’s single-set rotation-release injection production packer (IPP) is a field-proven and extremely versatile downhole service tool that can be installed in either cased or open hole, on a temporary or long-term basis. This packer is designed to be inflated, deflated, and retrieved one time per run; however, it can be redressed at the rig site for additional runs. With a relatively small OD, the packer can be run through restricted IDs and then set in larger openings. The standard elastomers are suitable for severe-service applications.

The packer is run in the well on threaded pipe (drillpipe or work string) and is inflated with application of work-string hydraulic pressure. To deflate and retrieve the tool, the work string is pulled upward and then rotated five turns to the right, allowing pressure between the element and the annulus above the packer to equalize. An additional pull causes the element to deflate into the tubing and annulus below the packer. When the element is completely deflated, the packer can be retrieved.

ApplicationsSuitable for use in vertical, high-angle, or horizontal applications• Can be used for open- or cased-hole zonal isolation• Acts as a permanent or retrievable bridge plug• Serves as a retainer for squeezing or treating formations below • the toolUseful in locating casing or liner leaks• Ideal for short-term production tests• Useful for isolating casing patches•

Features, Advantages and BenefitsRelatively small OD allows the packer to pass through restrictions so • that it can be inflated and set in larger openings where mechanical packers and bridge plugs cannot be used. With a hydraulically activated inflation valve, the packer can be set • without modification.Versatile design allows the packer to be run in open or cased hole.• Elements are fully reinforced with strip or cable. The strip is standard • for cased-hole use; when a portion of the ribs is exposed, it provides additional holding force. The strip element can be used in open hole as well, but cable reinforcement is preferred by many for its ability to achieve more settings.Elements can be inflated with cement for permanent installation.• The packer can be redressed at the rig site for additional runs, • saving time.

IPP Single-Set Pull-Release

Product SummaryWeatherford’s single-set pull-release injection production packer (IPP) is a field-proven and extremely versatile downhole service tool that can be installed in either cased or open hole, on a temporary or long-term basis. The packer is run in the well on coiled tubing or threaded pipe (drillpipe or work string) and requires only axial movement to operate. It is inflated with application of work-string hydraulic pressure. To deflate and retrieve the tool, the work string is pulled upward to shear the releasing pins. Then axial tension is reduced on the work string, which allows the pressure between the element and the annulus to equalize. An additional pull causes the element to deflate. When the element is completely deflated, the packer can be retrieved.

Injection Production Packer (IPP™) Products

IPP Multi-Set Rotation-Release

Product SummaryWeatherford’s multi-set rotation-release injection production packer (IPP) is a downhole service packer that offers field-proven, reliable, and extremely versatile performance in a variety of applications. This packer can inflate, deflate, and be retrieved multiple times per run and allows installation in cased or open hole, temporarily or long-term.

With a relatively small OD, the packer can be run through restricted IDs and then set in larger hole sizes. Elastomers are suitable for standard or severe-service applications.

The multi-set IPP tool runs in the well on threaded pipe (drillpipe or work string) and requires rotation and axial movement to operate. Once in the hole, the packer is inflated with hydraulic pressure. Deflation and retrieval simply require that the work string be rotated five times at the packer, and then pulled up. When the element is completely deflated, the packer can be repositioned and reset, or it can be pulled from the well if the job is complete.

ApplicationsWorks in vertical, high-angle, and horizontal applications• Provides excellent open-hole or cased-hole zonal isolation• Can function as a permanent or retrievable bridge plug• As a retainer for squeezing or treating formations below the tool• Can be used for locating casing or liner leaks and for short-term • production tests

Features, Advantages and BenefitsThis versatile packer runs on threaded tubing or drillpipe in either open • or cased hole and is suitable for standard or severe-service conditions. Hydraulically activated inflation valve allows inflation of the packer • multiple times per trip, helping to save costly rig time. Some sizes include an optional delayed-opening feature to provide a • wide range of options for differing downhole conditions. The packer is easy to operate. Simple rotation and straight pull deflates • the element into the tubing. For extra durability, elements come fully reinforced with strip or cable • and are readily adaptable to different mandrel sizes. (For cased-hole anchoring, the strip element can be partially exposed.) Packer can be redressed on location for additional runs, with fewer • costly delays. Relatively small element OD allows passage through restricted ID and • inflation in relatively large wellbores to reliably handle difficult downhole conditions.

Surface-Inflation Packer (SIP)

Injection Production Packer (IPP™) Products

Product SummaryWeatherford’s surface-inflation packer (SIP) is an effective and reliable production packer that can be inflated and deflated multiple times per trip without work-string manipulation. An external pressure line, attached to the running string, is used to inflate the tool with fluid or gas. The SIP incorporates the same rugged, high-differential-capacity inflatable elements that other Weatherford IPP inflatable production packers use.

ApplicationsCased or open hole•

Features, Advantages and BenefitsSimple and economical design, without internal valves, provides • a reliable, cost-effective tool that is easy to operate. The SIP provides total inflation control. The inflatable element on • production packers that use a poppet valve for inflation are susceptible to damage from tubing pressure; however, inflated by control line, the sealing element of the SIP is protected from tubing pressure. The SIP requires no work-string manipulation; therefore multiple SIPs • can be installed on a single string and safely set and released. This capability is especially advantageous when control lines are being used to actuate other downhole tools or data retrieval devices. The SIP can be inflated and deflated multiple times per trip, thereby • providing considerable rig-time savings. Each sealing element is custom manufactured from application-specific • elastomers known for their superior elastomeric properties, strength, and resistance to high temperatures and corrosive fluids and gases.

ISP™ Inflatable Straddle Packer Assembly

Open- or Cased-Hole Multi-Set Packer AssemblyWeatherford’s ISP inflatable straddle packer assembly (Type M2) is designed to isolate specific zones in open or cased-and-perforated holes in horizontal or deviated wells for selective treating, testing, or production evaluation. The M2 assembly consists of dual inflatable packers. It is run on coiled tubing or threaded pipe and can be set multiple times per run to cost effectively evaluate multiple zones or different segments of a specific zone.

The M2 assembly is operated by axial movement of the work string and applied surface pressure. Work-string rotation is not required to activate any tool function. The minimum space-out between inflatable sealing elements is 3 ft (1 m), and this distance can be adjusted according to specific well requirements. In addition, memory gauges can be placed above the top element, between the elements, and below the lower element to record all pressure and temperature fluctuations while the M2 assembly is in the well.

ApplicationsStimulation of multiple zones in one run• Testing of multiple intervals in one run• Short-term production testing of selected zones•

Features, Advantages and BenefitsSeparate sealing elements allow adjustment of space-out between • elements according to specific well or testing/treating requirements.Memory gauges above, between, and below the elements allow • recording of pressures and temperatures for analysis of specific zones.Only axial work-string movement is required to equalize and deflate the • tool for retrieval; therefore, the M2 assembly can be run on coiled tubing as well as conventional threaded pipe. The M2 assembly can be run on either regular tubing or coiled tubing • in horizontal or deviated, open or cased holes. Each element is manufactured from application-specific elastomers, • known for their superior strength and resistance to high temperatures and corrosive fluids and gases.

Hydraulic Circulating Valve

Product SummaryWeatherford’s hydraulic circulating valve (HCV) is typically run with the M2 inflatable straddle packer (ISP™) assembly above the upper packer. Ports on the HCV allow circulation of treatment fluid to the M2 ISP assembly after both packers have been set.

Pressure acting on a differential piston area in the HCV keeps the circulating ports closed while the packers are being inflated. The spring automatically closes the valve when tension has been removed from the tool. After the packers are inflated, the tubing pressure is released, and an upward pull is applied to the assembly to check the packer seating and to open the HCV ports. Treatment fluid is then circulated down the tubing and displaced up the annulus, above the upper packer assembly. Next, partial string weight is applied to the tools to close the HCV ports and open the flow ports in the M2 ISP assembly.

ApplicationsDisplacing fluid inside the tubing (when used above the top packer of • the M2 ISP assembly)Spotting acid for an acid squeeze • Pumping nitrogen to reduce the hydrostatic pressure for flow testing • Use with any packer or in any situation where rotation is either • impossible or unwanted

Features, Advantages and BenefitsOnly axial work-string movement is required to open the valve. With this • feature, the valve can be used in horizontal wells, where pipe rotation can be difficult.Spring-loaded valve is closed automatically when tension has been • removed from the tool.O-ring seals provide pressure integrity.•

Ball/Bar-Type Circulating Valve

Injection Production Packer (IPP™) Accessories

Product SummaryWeatherford’s ball/bar circulating valve can be installed in the work string above any downhole tool to open the work string to the annulus and avoid pulling a wet work string. The 2 7/8-in. (73-mm) valve is used primarily above an IPP inflatable production packer to open the work string before pulling.

Shear screws hold the shear sleeve in the closed position. Dropping either a ball or a bar on the shear sleeve and applying pressure opens the valve. The valve remains in the open position.

If a shear bar is used, it can be fished out to re-establish the opening through the valve. The ball will be caught in a ball catcher below the packer or blown out into the open hole; however, as a result of its geometry, the bar can become lodged or situated in a catcher or other tool below. Good practice prescribes removing the bar if other operations are to be performed after circulating.

ApplicationsUsed above an • IPP assembly or any downhole tool to open the work string to the annulus

Features, Advantages and BenefitsShear sleeve prevents premature opening of the valve, thereby • providing work-string pressure integrity.

Hydraulic Disconnect

Product SummaryWeatherford’s hydraulic disconnect is a reliable coupling used to disconnect the tubing from tools that are to be left downhole. This tool is used primarily with Weatherford’s IPP inflatable production packer and plug-and-abandon assemblies.

ApplicationsUsed in deviated or horizontal holes or any other situation in which it is • appropriate to disconnect by applying hydraulic pressure rather than by rotating the tubing

Features, Advantages and BenefitsHydraulic activation provides simple and reliable operation.• The ID of the tool is open to the full tubing ID, thus allowing intervention • through the work string, if necessary.Multiple shear value settings allow compatibility with other hydraulic • tools in the string so that each hydraulic event can be set at a different pressure for surface identification. No work string rotation is required to disconnect from downhole tools, • thus allowing use of the hydraulic disconnect in deviated or horizontal wellbores.A lug allows rotation of the work string or downhole assemblies, if • required.Pump-through capability after tool release allows circulation through • the tool to spot cement or a viscous plug, and/or pull a dry string.
