Portal Best Practices
1. Use your own Geocoding service
2. Register On-Premises ArcGIS Server services
3. Plan and optionally host core (common) feature layers
- Avoids duplication
- Make Read-Only (disable edits)
4. Limit capabilities to generate tiles (Publish hosted tile layers)
- Generate tiles in ArcGIS Desktop
5. Selectively enable GeoEnrichment (and provide training)
6. Monitor Usage and Items
- Remove unused, or low-use services
- Consolidate duplicate items
Managing Credit consumption (ArcGIS Online)
Portal Best Practices
1. Resist the urge to prevent sharing
- But, selectively permit sharing to “Public” to select few
2. Utilize “Ownership Transfer” & Groups in sharing workflow
3. Provide Group Structure & Guidelines
- Create organization wide groups by department
4. Leverage groups for project work
