Wildcat Words Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our 3rd and 4th graders have worked diligently, on the FSA test,
showing how much they have learned this year. Now it is 5th grade’s
turn to show their skills. We know that all of the students’ hard work
will pay off and we are looking forward to receiving great results.
Thank you teachers, staff, and parents, for your help in making sure
students were prepared for the tests.
Spring is in the air and the excitement of what great weather
brings. Learning opportunities that will take place outside the
classrooms, field trips, and other rewards for working so hard this
school year have been planned. We want all of our students to be
involved in these learning opportunities. So this month, we will be
focusing on the importance of all the Pillars of Character:
Trustworthiness – telling the truth, keeping
promises and doing the right thing
Respect – treating others the way you want others
to treat you
Responsibility – making good choices and being
accountable for your behavior
Caring – being kind and helpful, and valuing the
feelings of others
Citizenship – working to make school and
community a better place
Fairness – playing by the rules and keeping an
open mind
Displaying the Pillars of Character are easy when you practice
showing your P.A.W.S., Personal best, Act responsibly, Work and
play safely, and Show respect.
Just a few friendly reminders. Please make sure your child
comes to school prepared for learning with their organizational tool
and arrives on time. School begins promptly at 8:30 am. Although
the weather is getting warm, students should still wear school
appropriate clothing. Make sure that your child wears shoes with
straps, tennis shoes are best, and shirts with sleeves, for protection
while outside in the sun. Finally, check your child’s planner for
classroom and school updates, activities, and deadlines.
Respectfully,
Faye Jenkins,
Intervention Coordinator

Media Release The St. Johns County School Board will hold a Community Forum
on Tuesday, April 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the School
District Administrative Building located at 40 Orange Street to gather
input from the public as they start the search process for a new
superintendent. The new superintendent will be chosen in the fall and
is slated to begin in early 2017 when Superintendent Dr. Joseph
Joyner retires following a long and very distinguished career
including over 13 years as the Superintendent of Schools in St. Johns
County. Feedback and characteristics will be solicited from attendees
to assist in determining what the public desires in the future
superintendent of the St. Johns County School District (SJCSD).
This forum is just one way for the public to be involved in the
search process. A Citizens Advisory Committee will be created to
assist in the review of applicants based on the district’s
qualifications and public feedback. Community members interested
in serving on this committee are requested to submit an application.
The application must be postmarked or submitted by close of
business Monday, April 25 and is available online on the district’s
website at http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/supt-search/
In addition, a survey will be made available through individual
schools and on the district’s website beginning Friday, April 15 to
seek input on the characteristics of the next superintendent. The
survey will be disseminated using the district’s mass notification
system via email as well.

Electronic Devices Policy—If students are found with ANY electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones and smartphones, during testing OR during breaks, their tests will be invalidated. The best practice would be for students to leave devices at home on the day of testing. Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last portion of the testing rules read to students before they affirm the Testing Rules Acknowledgment reads, “Because the content in all statewide assessments is secure, you may not discuss or reveal details about the writing prompt or passages after the test. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting online, for example, on websites like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.” “Discussing” test content includes any kind of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting to blogs or social media websites, etc. While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents/families.
