Get Connected Spring 2011

LET’S GET CONNECTED!
Sherri Siegfreid, Connections Director
Welcome to Denver First Church!
It is my goal to make it easy for you to ‘get connected’. The Connections Booklet lists all the opportunities available to help you to grow in your faith and grow in friendships. ‘Connecting’ takes effort on our part and on yours.
“But Mom, that would be awkward!” These are the words my 13 year old said to me last year when I suggested she invite her new friends over. We had just moved from California where she had lived since age four. Making new friends was a very new thing to her. It took effort! Now a year later, and after her decision to make the effort and push through the awkward stage, she has enriched her life with new friends. We as adults need to remind ourselves that it takes effort to make friends. Push through the awkwardness! The DFC Connection booklet offers you many opportunities to reach out and enrich your life with new friends. Friendships grow fastest when there is a common bond and the common bond you would find here would be a shared desire to grow in the faith. Go for it!
I want to personally thank our DFC Connections team for all they do to help you get connected. I am also grateful to our DFC staff and leaders who have given us an opportunity to develop this great tool—the Connection booklet. If you have any questions or would like further help in navigating this tool, please, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to join your effort!
I’ll be looking for you!

Jesus! The Church of the Nazarene has nearly 800 missionaries around the world with outreach efforts in 158 world areas. Faith Promise Sunday, May 22, 2011, with Dr. Daniel Ketchum, missionary and Nazarene World Missions Director will be our special speaker. He will challenge us to support missions efforts for our new church year that begins this coming May. Our Congregation will make voluntary promises for missions giving (in addition to our regular tithe) as prompted through prayer and the Holy Spirit. Faith Promise is a covenant made between God and ourselves based on our faith in His ability to supply, out of His resources, what we cannot give on our own. What a blessing it is to be an integral part of His Great Commission as Jesus shared in Matthew 28:19‐20!

Movement 5280 A New Downtown Teen & Young Adult Center OUR MISSION: We are a new Teen Center in downtown Denver, with the goal of developing a movement of faith, hope and love within Denver’s youth and underprivileged by engaging them with opportunities for worship, vocational training, recreation, and relational support. Friday nights are drop in hours for teens at Movement5280. We will add an element of worship and a message. This is a time to reach out in the love of Jesus Christ, offering hope for a better future through feeding a hot meal, praying with individuals, worshiping our God, and loving on all who walk through our doors. We partner with other organizations such as Third Way and The Tennyson Center to bring at risk youth through our doors. We have a warm, inviting teen moms’ group for teens and young adults that encompasses MOPS (Mothers of Pre‐Schoolers), Co‐Op endeavors between mothers and life skills classes to help them succeed as parents. This is accomplished through guest speakers, encouragement of spiritual growth in Christ, group activities, childcare and developing loving relationships. We also meet infant needs whenever possible. DFC Works involves the utilization of vocational resources and professionals from within the body at Denver First Church and partnering churches to pair teens and young adults with adult mentors. Mentors are meeting with each to encourage and guide interested young people in developing a plan for a successful educational experience and goals for a brighter future through the completion of education and/or employment training. Tutoring & Computer Lab is available to assist teens in furthering their education, preparing for a GED and other alternatives to traditional learning.
