Who We Are

RESPOND, New England’s first domestic violence agency and the second oldest in the nation, was founded in 1974 to help victims of domestic violence and their families’ access safety and support.   RESPOND offers confidential services for ALL survivors of domestic violence including men, women, members of the LGBTQ community, and families including children from 0-18 years. Our services include a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, case management services, support groups, legal advocacy, children’s services, community outreach, and education for individuals, community groups, businesses, and educational institutions. 

The Facts:

1 in 4 people are victims of domestic violence during their lifetime.

Over 3 million children witness domestic violence in the U.S. every year.

In one day last year, 343 individuals were turned away from domestic violence shelters in Massachusetts due to lack of space and funding.

What We Do:

In FY16, RESPOND reached over 8,000 individuals through community outreach and provided safe shelter for 90 survivors of domestic violence.

Over the last 10 years, RESPOND has received over 38,000 calls on our crisis hotline, which is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by Certified Domestic Violence Counselors.

For over 42 years, RESPOND has stayed true to our founding mission by providing support groups, emergency shelter, case management, hotline services, and community education for all who need us.

RESPOND’s Virtual 5k:

A twist on your typical 5k fundraiser! Runners will complete their 5k any place, any time during the week of September 10-18, then electronically submit their race times and receive medals and goodies via mail including swag, coupons, promos from Sponsors. Social media will play a key part in this event- meaning plenty of opportunity for Sponsor shout outs!
