Summary There were 29 Part 1 (most serious) crimes in Midtown during the week, up a great deal from 15 last week.

Part 1 crimes included homicide (0), rape (2), robbery (8), aggravated assault (3), burglary (4), auto theft (0), arson (0) and larceny/theft (12). Public information narratives (taken directly from police reports) for all but the larceny incidents appear below.

There were 13 violent crimes reported- 2 rapes, 8 robberies and 3 aggravated assaults. This is a high number for a one week period.

There were no homicides, auto theft or arsons reported during this week. There were no business robberies and no business burglaries reported during the week. MPD officers arrested and jailed or issued citations to 23 suspects in Midtown.

7-6, 6:55 to 9:55 pm 2xx Lake St E (Phillips West neighborhood) Exact location unknown Victim reported that she was raped at an unknown time and location after been drinking with Suspect (Known to Victim) in Uptown Minneapolis. Victim was transported to Abbott Northwestern Hospital by request. Victim was given a blue (victim resources) card and advised. Recommendation: Further investigation.

7-7, 5:07 pm to 7-9, 10:00 pm 28xx Park Ave S (Phillips West neighborhood) Victim came into the 3rd Precinct and reported a Criminal Sexual Conduct at the listed location. Victim given a blue (victim resources) card. Recommendation: Further investigation.

Robbery (8)7-4, 4:00 to 4:05 am 32nd St E & 3rd Ave S (Central neighborhood) Officers were dispatched to the above location. Victim stated that Suspect 2 came up to him and asked him for money. Victim gave Suspect 2 seven dollars out of his wallet. Suspect 2 called over Suspect 1 who also asked for money. Victim refused to give him money stated that he needed his money. Suspect 1 then hit Victim on the left and right side of his head with a bottle. Victim went to the ground and Suspect 1 grabbed Victim's wallet and ran off. Emergency Medical Service arrived and transported Victim to Hennepin County Medical Center. Victim was given a blue (victim resources) card and advised.

7-4, 10:48 pm 30xx Cedar Ave S (Corcoran neighborhood) Victim was robbed at gunpoint by Suspects1-3. Victim given a blue (victim resources) card.

7-7, 12:30 to 12:32 pm 23xx Lake St E (East Phillips neighborhood) Victim was just about to walk up the stairs off Lake St to the light rail at Lake and Hiawatha light rail station. A male attacked the victim punching him and pushing him to the ground and forcibly taking his cell phone. Victim transported to U of M hospital with head injuries where report was taken.

7-8, 3:35 am Lake St E & 12th Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) A male later identified with a MN ID as Victim had his vehicle, wallet, and phone taken from his person at gun point by Suspect. Victim’s vehicle was placed into NCIC (National Crime Information Center) as stolen by the auto desk. Recommendation: Further investigation.

7-8, 10:30 to 11:00 pm 28th St E & Cedar Ave S (Central neighborhood) Victim stated that he was robbed at gun point at the above location while sitting inside his vehicle (MN-845TGZ). Victim stated that Suspects ordered him out of his vehicle and then drove away in his vehicle. Victim stated the above listed items were inside his vehicle at the time of the robbery. Victim refused Emergency Medical Service. Victim was given a blue (victim services) card and advised. Autodesk was notified. Recommendation: Case closed pending further leads or information.

7-9, 6:30 to 6:45 pm Lake St E & 22nd Ave S (East Phillips neighborhood) Victim was given a blue card with the case number. Victim refused medical attention. Photos were downloaded to evidence.com. Recommendation: Case closed pending further information or leads.

7-10, 12:43 to 12:50am 29th St E & 17th Ave S (East Phillips neighborhood) At the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the above location to take a robbery of person report. Upon arrival Officers spoke with Victim and took report. Victim did not sustain any injuries from the robbery. Victim was given a blue (victim resources) card. Recommendation: Case closed pending further information or leads.

7-10, 6:59 to 7:00 pm 3xx Lake St E (Central neighborhood) At the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the above location to respond to a robbery of business. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the victims and store manager. Investigators and Crime Lab responded to the scene. Officers took victim's statements and reviewed security footage. Recommendation: Further investigation.

Aggravated Assault (3)7-4, 9:55 to 7-5, 9:00 pm 8xx Lake St E (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officers were dispatched to an…in progress call outside the above location. Arrestee 1 [Nicole Williams] was booked Hennepin County Jail for Probable Cause 2nd degree…assault... Arrestee 1 was also booked for her misdemeanor Hennepin County theft warrant. Arrestee 2 [Chantay McDowell] was booked Hennepin County Jail… Victim 1 was given a blue (victim resources) card.

7-4, 11:00 pm to 7-5, 12:02 am Address Not Public (Corcoran neighborhood) At the above date and time, Officers were dispatched to the above address to respond to an… in-progress call. Upon arrival Officers spoke with Victim 1 and Victim 2. Arrestee [Mesuggui Acosta Dominguez] was arrested at the scene. Arrestee was transported and booked into Hennepin County Jail for 3rd degree…assault…Victim 1 and Victim 2 were given a blue (victim resources) card.

7-8, 9:20 to pm 13xx Lake St E (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) A male that was later identified as Victim was assaulted by a male (Suspect). Victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance for his injuries. Recommendation: Further investigation.

Burglary (4)7-6, 2:46 to 2:51 am 30xx 15th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officers were dispatched to a Damage to Property in progress at the listed address which is an upper/lower duplex. Upon arrival, Officers

spoke with Victim who stated that she was awoken by a noise outside the northeast window. It sounded like someone was banging on the window trying to gain entry. She noticed the screen was moved on the inside of the window. No entry was made. Victim closed the window soon after and did not see anyone. Shortly after she heard someone outside a north facing window tampering with it and attempted to remove an in-window air conditioner unit. It was later observed that a male, Suspect, was breaking a security camera on the north side of the address while standing on an old chair possibly holding a tree branch. The chair was found broken. No entry was made to the address. No other damage to property was observed. Victim was given blue (victim resources) card. It should be noted that the broken camera was non-functioning as well as another camera in the back. Photos were taken and uploaded to evidence.com. Recommendation: Case closed pending further information or leads.

7-6, 6:00 pm to 7-7, 7:30 am 30xx 10th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Burglary to unattached garage with open garage door. Loss is bicycles. No suspect or witness info.

7-9, 12:01 to 10:00 am 31xx Park Ave S (Central neighborhood) The victim stated he left his service door to his detached garage unlocked by mistake and between the listed times his two bikes were stolen. No suspect info. The victim was advised and given a blue (victim resources) card.

7-10, 5:00 to 10:27 pm 31xx 23rd Ave S (Corcoran neighborhood) Victim reported an unknown person entered her apartment between the hours of 1200-5:00 pm today. She noticed her medication was gone when she was getting ready for bed. The door to the apartment did appear to have been pried open in order to gain access. The missing prescription is Oxycodone total count was 56 refilled on 07-02-2017 and Victim believes there were approximately 50 pills left in the bottle. No suspect information available at this time. Victim given a MPD blue (victim resources) card. Recommendation: Case closed pending further information or leads.

7-4, 10:20 pm 8xx Lake St E Nicole Williams arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for Assault (Felony), Violation of Protection Order and 1 Misdemeanor Warrant; Chantay McDowell arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for Violation of Protection Order.

7-4, 11:26 pm Lake St E & 22nd Ave S Elijah Diego Shackelton stopped and issued a citation for Failure to Stop (Semaphore) and Excess Sound-Motor Vehicle; Loren James Gafner issued a citation for Narcotics Violation.

7-4, 11:35 pm 32nd St E & Hiawatha Ave S Aaron Claudelle McKinney issued a citation for Driving After Revocation.

Third Precinct Weekly TrendsMotor Vehicle Theft: 20% (1 of 5) of the vehicles reported stolen were stolen with keys.

Burglary of Dwelling: 79% (19 of 24) required little or no force to gain entry: Residential: 75% (9 of 12) required little/no force to gain entry (2-unlocked door, 7-unlocked window). Garage: 83% (10 of 12) required little/no force to gain entry (3 unlocked service door, 3 open/unlocked service door, 4 no force).

Theft from Motor Vehicle: 41% (9 of 22) reported a wallet/purse (4), GPS (2) or backpack/other bag (3) stolen; 55% (12 of 22) required little or no force to gain entry (7- unlocked door, 5-no force).

Theft: 6% (1 of 17) reported a cell phone stolen.

Breakdancing Battle at Lake + Minnehaha Open Streets July 23The Corcoran Neighborhood Organization and the Midtown Farmers Market are thrilled to announce that we will once again participate in Open Streets Minneapolis on Sunday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s route includes both Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue, which will be blocked-off to be enjoyed by bicyclists and pedestrians for nearly four miles through southeast Minneapolis.

This year for Open Streets Lake Street + Minnehaha Avenue, the Midtown Farmers Market will once again be holding a breakdancing battle right beneath the Hiawatha Avenue bridge. In addition to breakdancing and all styles competitions, the Midtown Farmers Market will also be hosting an Urban Agriculture and Gardening Fair, food trucks and market vendors. Dance competitions will include an $800 prize for the top 4 vs. 4 crew, along with prizes for an all styles competition and farmers market trivia. Be sure to check out the action under the Hiawatha Avenue Bridge on Lake Street!
