This Big Day of Giving, help the Sacramento Children’s Home raise $60,000 to address the critical needs of our programs. Our programs prevent child abuse and neglect in the Sacramento region and open doors to the future by maximizing the potential of children and families. On Thursday, May 2, 2019, nonprofit organizations all over Sacramento and the surrounding region will come together for one “BIG” day of giving.

Big Day of Giving was created by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation to increase philanthropy in the capital area and aims to strengthen the region by helping nonprofits grow their local impact and ensure donors can give with confidence to the causes they love.

Last year, Sacramento Children’s Home supporters raised over $59,000 for our Crisis Nursery Program. This year, with your generous help once again, we’re hoping to raise $60,000 for our Crisis Nursery, Residential and Family Resource Center programs. Through these programs, we provide care and support to over 7,000 children and 4,600 families annually.

You are our most important ambassador. We can’t accomplish our goal without your advocacy, so we have put together this toolkit to help you inspire, encourage and rally your friends and family.

Big Day of Giving TerminologyThe event’s official name is “Big Day of Giving.” The B, D and G are capitalized.

“BIG” IdeasHere are a few ideas to help get you started spreading the word out to your network about your Big Day of Giving efforts (which we truly appreciate):

Start now by dropping Big Day of Giving into conversation at home, with your neighbors, at your kids’ school, at the office, the gym, you name it. Word of mouth is the best and most efficient kind of advocacy. “Are you planning on making a donation to anyone on Big Day of Giving?”

Send an email to your family and/or your friends, and if appropriate, your office, encouraging them to save the date of May 2.

Like SCH on social media if you haven’t already: We’re on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Share our page to your Facebook wall. Click “going” or “interested” on our Big Day of Giving

Facebook event. Then share the event to your Facebook wall and/or click “Invite” to personally invite your Facebook friends.

Create a social media post on one or all of your accounts encouraging others to join you in supporting child abuse prevention by giving through SCH.

Share, like and comment on our social media posts. Forward our Big Day of Giving emails. Starting any time, create a Facebook fundraiser on our

behalf. Watch a short video tutorial here and find graphics and text below. OR

Starting April 8, create a peer-to-peer fundraiser through Big Day of Giving’s website (must create a log in to proceed).

Once you make a suggestion, SHARE that you’ve done so and CHALLENGE your network to MATCH you.

Gamify the day by creating an office or family competition! Ex: the largest donor wins a prize. The last person to donate buys lunch. Anyone who donates gets to wear jeans. Whomever doesn’t donate has to do 50 pushups.

Some of you may know this but in case you don’t, the Sacramento Children’s Home is near and dear to my heart. SCH is a 152-year-old local nonprofit that works to prevent child abuse and neglect in our community and open doors to the future for children and families.

May 2 is Big Day of Giving in Sacramento, and SCH is aiming to raise $60,000, which would support its Residential, Crisis Nursery, and Family Resource Center programs. SCH’s programs provide support to 4,600 families and over 7,000 children.

I plan to give to SCH on May 2, so please consider joining me in making a donation to this wonderful organization. Any amount from $10 to $100 will help, plus, SCH has secured a $10,000 match so your gift will be doubled!

Thank you so much!

Love,

Good morning,

May 2 is Big Day of Giving here in Sacramento and I wanted to pitch the idea of collectively supporting the Sacramento Children’s Home.

SCH is local, their mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect, and they’ve been in serving our community since 1867! Today, they provide support to 4,600 families and 7,000 children in our area through programs like Residential which provides care to boys who have been removed from their homes, the Crisis Nursery, which is open to children 0-5 whose families are facing crises, and Family Resource Centers that provide a ton of services to families who need them most, free of charge.

The Children’s Home has a goal of $60,000, and I’d love to see our office help them meet their goal. I also think it might be fun to make a game out of this. We could hold a friendly, office competition if there’s enough interest.

Lastly, SCH has secured a $10,000 match, so our office’s donation will be doubled!

I strongly support the Sacramento Children’s Home because of the work they’re doing to positively impact our community’s children—our future!

Please let me know your thoughts.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

Email Template – Day of

Good morning,

As you might have heard, today is Sacramento’s Big Day of Giving!

If you haven’t already chosen a wonderful nonprofit to support yet, might I suggest making a donation to the Sacramento Children’s Home?

SCH is near and dear to my heart and I truly believe in their mission. They have eight programs aimed at child abuse prevention, intervention and mental health treatment, and their programs include a residential treatment program for boys who have suffered trauma, a crisis nursery for babies, toddlers and preschoolers whose families are going through difficult times, and so much more.

The Children’s Home set a goal of $60,000 and I’d love for my friends and family to join me in supporting their efforts!

Please consider making a donation to SCH today. It would mean the world to me and to the children who need our support. If you’re interested, I challenge you to MATCH my donation of [$XX.XX]!

Thank you all, and have a great BIG day!
