Phonics:Phase 2:Continue to revise the phase 2 letter sounds. Challenege your child to a game of Quick Write where you say the sound and they write it down as fast as the can. Play I spy with your child. Can they find words containing sh, ch, th and ng. can you discuss where in the word the digraph it? Is it at the beginning, in the middle or at the end.

Phase Three :This week we are practising the split digraph i-e. A split digraph is when the two letters making the sound are split by another letter for example ‘time’ – i and e are making the i-e sound but they are split by the m. Look at the picture below. Can you spot the i-e word and write them down.

Challenge:

Choose one of the ‘i-e’ words from the sound maze and write a sentence about it. Can you use at least two of the following tricky words in your sentence and spell them without looking?

Reading:

Use a dice to create your own story. Use the prompt above to get your character, setting, emotion, prop and problem. Once you have all of these can you make up your own story and tell it to your grown up?

Challenge: Can you create a story map for your new story?OrCan you write the story?

Read to your child   Learning to read can be hard work for many children, so it is important to keep enjoying books together. Your child will also benefit from listening to books and stories that they cannot read themselves yet. This might include non-fiction books about things they are interested in or longer stories with more adventurous vocabulary. 

Make sure that you continue to read with your child every night. Bedtime stories are such a special routine to have in place, so make the most of this time with your child.

English:This week, we are going to be writing a mini-beast poem. Firstly can you write a list of as many mini-beast as you can? Maybe you could go on a mini-beast hunt to help you with your list.Can you now choose your favourite mini-beast and use your senses to have a really good think about it. When you look at your chosen mini-beast what can you see/hear/feel if it was crawling on your arm?Using the following model can you now write a poem about your chosen mini-beast:

Ladybird ladybird what do you see?I see a red and spotty body looking at me.Ladybird ladybird what do you hear?I hear tiny wings flapping at me.Ladybird ladybird what do you feel?I feel tickly feet creeping on me.

Challenge: Look at the words highlighted in yellow in the poem. These are adjectives and they make the poem even more descriptive and exciting to read. Think carefully about using your own adjectives in your poem to make it even more exciting.

Maths:

This week, we are going to introduce ‘sharing’. Read the following sharing story to your child and explore their responses. How will they share the treasure? You could use objects like pasta, cubes or toys to be the treasure and help you.

Pirate Panda has taken all the treasure, 20 golden coins. Cat, Dog and Rabbit jump about excitedly. “Can we have some too?” 

“No! No! No!” says Pirate Panda. Can the children suggest what Panda ought to do?

6) Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do.

7) Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.

8) Think carefully about what you say before you post something online.

9) Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude.

10) If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.
