LINE DRAWING HANDS-You will need x3 sheets of A4 paper, pencil, ruler and a rubber..

Following the sketches below try to copy each hand drawing. Take a new sheet for each task.

Task 1

Task 2

Task 3

Choose one of these hands to sketch, simplify the basic shape like in the last tasks and then add detail and tone. Shade in the darkest parts first. Use your rubber to lighten areas. The more tone you use the more 3D your drawing will look.

Tonal Study

Look at how tone has been used in this pencil study to describe the folds in the fabric. Either find a piece of fabric, a towel or scarf will work. Or sketch from the photograph below.

You will need-pencil, paper, rubber and fabric or use image to sketch from.

Start by sketching the lines made by the folds then add tone.

Tonal Study.

You will need-pencil, paper, ruler, rubber and a key.

Divide your paper into boxes of the same size, you can do this with pencil and ruler of by just folding your paper into squares.

In each square sketch a different section of your key, like the example above. Place the key at different angles to sketch. Keep looking and drawing to ensure your observation is accurate.

Once you have sketched the shape add tone working from dark to light.

Line Drawing

All of the portraits above have been done using only line. Look at how the lines help to describe the contours of the face making it look 3d.

You will need-pencil, paper, a mirror or an ipad. Looking at yourself in either the mirror or on the selfie setting of the ipad try to draw yourself using only line.

Start by drawing your eyes first, try not to take your pencil off the paper. The more lines that you make the more effective your portrait will look. Avoid using a rubber and instead just re-draw your line.

Tonal Study

You will need-pencil, paper, rubber and a trainer.

Try drawing your trainer from different angles, use a new sheet of paper for each angle. Sketch your shoe so that it fits the full sheet of paper.

Once you have sketched it out add tone and then detail like the examples above. Keep looking and drawing so that you get an accurate sketch of your trainer.

Adding tone, start with the darkest parts first. You can use a rubber to lighten parts and to blend with.
