After the book we will talk about what it is to be healthy? Being healthy means keeping our bodies and our minds strong. How? Eating healthy foods, exercising etc... who is the person that helps us stay healthy? We have been learning about our bodies. Today let’s learn about Pediatricians: doctors who help keep our bodies healthy. Talk about how they are doctors that are only for kids.

(Provide the children with a visual of a pediatrician)

Sensory Center: Play dough- Students will engage in rolling and cutting skills, identifying shapes, and using cookie cutters to engage in sensory work, and strengthen grip by squeezing the dough. They can also make their emotion faces with the playdough. Science Center: Dental Health Tooth Experiment

Use 2 clear cups, 2 eggs, vinegar, cola, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a magnifying glass. Soak an egg in a cup of cola and a second one in vinegar. Overnight the eggs will turn brown and the other one will lose its shell. The cola one can show what happens if you don't brush (It will come off with a toothbrush and toothpaste).The second one shows that if the acid continually builds up in your mouth, it will decalcify, just like the egg.

Writing Center:The children can use the dry erase board and practice writing their name. At home you can use a paper and

any writing utensil for this activity.Art Center: Create a food pyramid or My Plate or food train

Block Center: What do I like to do- create with blocks things you like or places you like to go. Add pictures and books to center for visuals

TuesdayDate: 11/17Focus Question:What do we need to keep us healthy?

- What is the food pyramid? Hold up an apple and a lollipop and ask the children to compare the two of them (both are sweet, different colors, the apple is juicier, the apple is healthier). Explain that it is important for us to eat many different types of foods to stay healthy. Some foods keep our muscles strong, some foods are good for our teeth or eyes, and some foods are important to keep our bones healthy. Read the Book Healthy Snacks on My Plate. By Mari Schuh. After the book we will show them the visual of My Plate. Why do we need to sleep? To stay healthy, everyone needs to make sure they are getting the proper amount of sleep each night. Make sure your little one (and you, too) are getting at least eight hours each night. We will then read the book Sleep all night by Mark Elizabeth Salzmann. Then we will Create a chart with the children on what we do before bed. Emphasize the importance of having a routine to follow to have a good night sleep.

Writing Center: The children will use their writing folders to practice straight lines. At home you can use paper and a model how to make straight line for them. Then have them try to imitate the same thing to the best of their abilities.

Why do I brush my teeth? Another Healthy habit is brushing our teeth. What do we use to keep our teeth clean? Who do we go to check our teeth? We will read the book: Around the town (the dentist office) by Adeline J. Zimmerman

Math Center: The children can use the animal counters and organize/ sort in colors

Library/Literacy Center: Encourage the children to explore writing tools at home and school. Write your child’s name on cards or paper. Have your child practice writing the first letter of their name. What sound does the letter make?

Writing Center: Children will use their writing folder to practice straight lines from their handwriting booklet. At home you can practice straight lines using a yellow marker and white paper. Make a few straight lines and have your child practice tracing on the yellow lines. You can also use chalk and have them make lines on paper.
