OPENING OF SERVICE M: I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of

rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”

C: I saw heaven standing open, and, there before me, was a white horse whose Rider is called “Faithful” and “True.”

M: With justice He judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns! He has a name

written on Him that no one knows but He Himself. C: He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is “The Word of God.”

M: The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of

His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations.

C: He will rule them with an iron scepter. On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS and LORD

OF LORDS.

M: The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever! On this

final Sunday of the Christian Church Year – “Christ the King” Sunday – we come together to praise and thank our eternal Savior-God in the name by which He reveals Himself in Scripture: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Amen.

CONFESSION OF SINS M: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and

confess our sins to God out Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words,

and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

M: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

RESPONDING HYMN O God from God, O Light from Light 85:1

C: O God from God, O Light from Light,O Prince of Peace and King of kings,To you in heaven's glory brightThe song of praise forever rings. To him who sits upon the throne,The Lamb once slain but raised again,Be all the glory he has won,All thanks and praise! Amen, Amen.

THE WORDFirst Reading- Ezekiel 34:11-16, 23-24

11 “‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. 12 As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. 14 I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord. 16 I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. 23 I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will

tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. 24 I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.

Second Reading- 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.

VERSE OF THE DAY M: Alleluia. I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and

the Last, the Beginning and the End. Alleluia.

C: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! These words are written that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Gospel Reading- Matthew 27:27-3127 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

M: The Gospel of the Lord! C: Praise be to you, O Christ!

Has blessed us on our way And guide us when perplexed

With countless gifts of love  And free us from all ills

And still is ours today. In this world and the next.
