CHAPTER- Medieval Europe-Rise and Spread of Christianity

History is divided into three periods—early middle or medieval and modern periods.Word ‘medieval’ is derived from latin word mean time in the middle. It is further subdivided: Early medieval period ( 9th and 12th century) and later medieval period (13th and 18th century).Meaning of Christianity;Word ‘Christian’ refers to the followers of Jesus Christ. Christianity is a religion that is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Christian calendar marks the birth of Jesus at 4 BC. BC stands for Before Christ and AD stands for Anno Domini which in Latin means in the year of our Lord. Jesus was born in Bethlehem near Jerusalem. His entire thinking was based on the central idea that God is the loving father of all. His teachings were very simple.

1) What is the word medieval mean?Ans: The word 'medieval' is derived from the Latin word mean time in the middle.2) What is the word Christianity mean?Ans: The word Christian refers to the followers of Jesus Christ. Physics Kinetic Theory of Matter.

Three states of matter in terms of movement of particles.

Energy content in the three states of matter.

Kinetic theory of matterMolecules of matter are in a continuous state of motion. Hence, they possess kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of molecules increases with an increase in temperature and decreases with a decrease in temperature. The molecules of matter always attract each other and the force of attraction between them is known as force of cohesion which binds the molecules of a substance together. This force is maximum between the molecules of solids, lesser between the molecules of liquids and least between the molecules of gases. The force of attraction between the different types of molecules is called the force of adhesion. The force of attraction between the molecules (either cohesive or adhesive) is called the intermolecular force of attraction. The space between any two consecutive molecules is called the intermolecular space. If the intermolecular force of attraction increases, the intermolecular space decreases, and vice versa.Arrangement of MoleculesSolidsMolecules are very tightly packed and have least intermolecular space between them. The intermolecular force of attraction holds the molecules at one place with very small vibrations. Molecules cannot move easily from

Page 20:   · Web view2020. 6. 23. · earned a good living. He learnt carpentry from his father who was very old now n depended on Manfred and Thekla for every work. They were not taking

their positions because their kinetic energy is low and are not enough to let them break away from their mutual force of attraction. Therefore, solids have a definite shape and volume and are not compressible. For the same reason, they do not flow or diffuse. Also, solids are rigid and hard and are difficult to break because of the strong force of attraction between the molecules.LiquidsMolecules are less tightly packed in liquids and attract each other with a lesser force as compared to solids but not enough to make liquids compressible. They do not stay at the same position as the intermolecular

force of attraction between them is less. The kinetic energy of the particles is more in liquids as compared to solids and the particles are not bound to any fixed positions. They move around freely, at random, throughout the liquid. However, they do not have enough kinetic energy to break out of the boundary of the liquid mass. This is the reason that liquids do not have definite shapes and flow or diffuse freely, but they have definite volumes.GasesIn gases, the molecules are very loosely packed and the force of attraction is the least as compared to solids and liquids.

The kinetic energies between the molecules are high enough to let them break away from any boundaries. They are free to move around in random motion. Thus, gases can change their shape and volume easily and can be compressed to fill any container.Example: Petroleum gas is compressed and filled in the cooking gas cylinders which we use in our kitchen to cook food.

2: CellWelcome Students, today is the first day in this session. We start with Ch-2 , Cell.

Here, at first we know about microscope, their classification and their inventors.

Now we know about cell theory.

There is some classification of organisms according to number.

Q1. What is microscope? Classify it.A piece of equipment that makes very small objectsLook big enough for you to be able to see them.• Antony van Leeuwenhoek made simple microscope with one lens and one adjustment screw. It had a magnifying powercope up to 200 times.• Robert Hooke made compound microscope with two lenses and two adjustment screws. It magnifies up to 2000 times. He examined a thin slice of cork and observed "box like" compartment. He said these are all “cells”• Electron microscope : which gives us a magnification over 200,000 times by using beams of electrons which are bent by magnets.Q2. State cell theory.• The cell is the smallest unit of structure of allliving things.• The cell is the unit of function of all living things.• All cells arise from pre-existing cells.Q3. Classify organism according to number of cells.• Single-celled : made up of one cell. ex: yeast, bacteria, amoeba.• Few-celled: made up of a few hundred to few thousand cells. ex: volvox, Spirogyra• Multi-celled: made up of millions and billions of cells. 'ex: Human, Mango• Smallest cell - Bacteria 0.3- 5.0 micrometer.• Longest cell - Nerve cell - 135 micrometer.• Largest cell – Ostrich egg - 20 cm in diameter.

ENGLISH LITERATURE

THE HEART OF A TREE

The heart of a tree by Henry Cuyler Bunner. The main theme of this poem is “what does he plant who plants a tree?” The poet says that it’s not just a tree we plant but a friend of sun and sky. And he describes the tree to be the flag of breezes free. And that it as the shaft of beauty that towering high. He says that we plant a home to heaven and for song and mother-croon of bird. This brings cool shade and tender rain and the seeds and buds of tomorrow. He says that tree is the glory of the plain and forest’s heritage. And the harvest of a coming age is the joy that unborn eyes shall see. One plant a tree in love of home and loyalty. And the poem has a very beautiful ending which says that, “A nation’s growth from sea to sea. Stirs in his heart who plants a tree.” This means that one who plants a tree would bring blessings and that helps in the nation’s growth.

Physics Chapter : Motion in 1D

Here We Will Study Mainly The Scalar And Vector Quantites. The one having magnitude is a scalar and the one having both magnitude and direction are vectors. We will classify physical quantites

Question 1Differentiate between the scalar and vector quantities, giving two examples of each.Solution 1

Scalar VectorThey are expressed only by their magnitudes. They are expressed by magnitude as well as direction. They can be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided by simple arithmetic methods.

They can be added, subtracted or multiplied following a different algebra.

They are symbolically written by English letter. They are symbolically written by their English letter with an arrow on top of the letter.

Example: mass, speed Example: force, velocityQuestion 2

Solution 2a) Pressure is a scalar quantity.b) Momentum is a vector quantity.c) Weight is a vector quantity.d) Force is a vector quantity.e) Energy is a scalar quantity.f) Speed is a scalar quantity.Question 3When is a body said to be at rest?Solution 3A body is said to be at rest if it does not change its position with respect to its immediate surroundings.Question 4When is a body said to be in motion?Solution 4A body is said to be in motion if it changes its position with respect to its immediate surroundings.Question 5What do you mean by motion in one direction?Solution 5When a body moves along a straight line path, its motion is said to be one-dimensional motion.Question 6Define displacement. State its unit.Solution 6The shortest distance from the initial to the final position of the body is called the magnitude of displacement. It is in the direction from the initial position to the final position. Its SI unit is meter (m).

Commercial Studies

Chapter 1 Distinction between economic activities and Non Economic activities Key word :-Guiding factor

Classification of commercial activities Keywords:- specialized knowledge; exchange of; employee; employer

TypesBusiness - It involves production and exchange of goods and services to earn profit. #Main motive is to earn profit. #Example – A person running a Pharmacy; a barber etc. Profession -It involves in rendering services to people which needs specialised knowledge. #Its main motive is to provide service. #Example a lawyer, teacher, a chartered accountant.Employment -It is an economic activity that people work for others in exchange for some remuneration.#Person who work for others called employees. #The person who organisation for whom the said person is working is called employer. #Example – A school teacher, a lawyer of High Court.

Distinction between business profession and employment

Questions1.“The same activity may be commercial as well as Non

Commercial at different times”.Comment. Answer: An activity weather considered as commercial and Non Commercial depends on the motive behind performing such activities. For instance, a teacher teaching roadside children’s spontaneously is Non Commercial activities since it does not involve money earning motive, but if that same person is teaching in school is a commercial activities since the motive is to earn money.

2. Give two examples of direct serviceAnswer:-Direct service means providing services through person to person contact. Such services provided by qualified person. Example :i) Doctor treating a patient at his own chamber .ii) House maid providing service at home.

3. Classify the following into commercial and noncommercial activities:i. A tea stall on New Delhi railway station.

ii. Sarita preparing tea for her husband.iii. Hasina nursing her mother in law.iv. A yoga teacher teaching yoga to clients.

Mathematics

Topic-Pure ArithmeticChapter-Rational and Irrational numbers.

A number which cannot be expressed as p/q form where p and q are integers and q not equal to is called Irrational number.Example:√2,√3,√5,2+√3 etc. To prove a number Irrational number, we have to learn The two theorems.Theorem 1: If a,n are any natural numbers and p is a prime number such that p divides an, then p divides a.Theorem 2: If a and b are any natural numbers and p is a prime number such that p divides an then p divides a or p divides b or provides both.

Prove that √5 is an irrational number.Solution: Let √5 be a rational number, then√5=p/q where p and q are integers and q not equal to zero and p,q have no common factors except1.Or,(√5)2=(p/q)2Or, 5 =p2/q2Or, p2=5q25 divide 5q2, so, 5 divides p2 where 5 is prime number.5 divide p.Again let, p=5m where m is an integer.then(5m)2=5q2Or, 25m2 =5q2Or, 5m2=q25 divide 5m2, so, 5divides q2 where 5 is prime number.5 divides qFrom the above result we see p and q have common factor 5.Which contradicts our assumption. Therefore, √5 is an irrational number.

formulae.

1. What is a symbol? What information does it convey?Solution:Short form of atom of specific element or the abbreviations used to refer names of the element is known as symbol.1. It represents a specific element.2. It represents one atom of an element.3. A symbol represents how many atoms are present in its one gram (gm) atom.4. It represents the number of times an atom is heavier than one atomic mass unit (amu) taken as a standard.2. Why is the symbol S for Sulphur, but Na for Sodium and Si for Silicon.Solution:While naming an element first letter of the elemnt is taen and written in capitals(e.g. for sulphur, we use the symbol S). In case if the letter is already adopted. We use a symbol derived from latin word of the element name (e.g. for sodium/Natrium, we use the symbol Na). In some cases, we use the initial letter in capital together with a small letter from its name (e.g. for silicon, we use the symbol Si).3. Write the full form of IUPAC. Name the elements represented by the following Symbols: Au, Pb,Sn,HgSolution:IUPAC stands for The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).Au- GoldPb- LeadSn- TinHg- Mercury4. If the symbol for cobalt, Co were written as CO, What would be wrong with it.Solution:If we write CO it means it consist of two non-metals namely Carbon and Oxygen and it would represent Carbon-monoxide but not Cobalt.5. What do the following symbols stand for?a) H b) H2 c) 2H d) 2H2

Solution:a) H stands for one atom of Hydrogenb) H2 stands for one molecule of Hydrogenc) 2H stands for 2 atoms of Hydrogend) 2H2 stands for 2 molecules of Hydrogen.6. What is meant by atomicity? Name a diatomic element.Solution:A set of atoms of the same type together forms a molecule of the element. The number of atoms in a molecule of an element is called its atomicity.Examples of diatomic elements are H2- Hydrogen, O2- Oxygen, N2-Nitrogen7. a) Explain the terms valency and variable valency?b) How are the elements with variable valency named? Explain with an example.Solution:Valency is the capacity of an atom to lose, gain or share atoms during a chemical reaction is called its valency.Sometimes atom of an element can lose more electron than they are present which means they lose electron from its penultimate shell. Such an element is said to exhibit variable valency.b) If an element exhibits two different positive valencies, then1. For the lower valency, use the suffix -OUS at the end of the name of the metal
