Good Morning Year 5!Welcome to today’s home learning. In our school bubbles we are continuing with a History project! The children in school will be learning about World War 1 and World War 2 and we want to share this learning with you at home! These tasks are for you to do whenever you can and everything will be on our wordpress blog for you to dip in to! Task 1 ***NEW UNIT!***We are going to be Scientists this week!Our new unit will teach us all about..... astronomy! Today’s lesson is about the planets in our solar system!Use the video or the pdf attached to learn more about the planets!

Task 2

This task should take 30+ minutes.

You should have watched the videos in task 1 or read the pdf attached with your home learning. Task 2 is to create a poster showing what you know about 1 planet, 2 planets or all of the planets!

You could create a poster of just one planet, draw the planet and include as many facts as you can about it.

Or you could create a poster of all the planets- including the sun too- and include a few facts that you have learnt today.

Or if you are feeling super creative, why don’t you make a 3D planet?! You could use a balloon, recycling or your choice of materials.

These are also planet fact cards attached to help you and printable resources which are on the wordpress blog.We will be returning to this topic (planets) on Thursday so don’t worry if you don’t feel like you know lots just yet! You can always add to your work later in the week.

Maths task The task should take around 30 minutes.

Year 5 objective: Finding the volume of a cuboid

So far, we have practised finding the volume using the cubes inside of the shape, but this is not always there to help you! Don’t worry- the calculation is still the same 😊

Take a look at this question as an example. All you need to do is remember the formula you learnt yesterday (L x W x D).You will need to multiply 10x10x6 which gives you an answer of 600.How? 10 x 10 is 100 and then multiply that by the 6 and you get 600!

Remember to put cm3 on the end! Our answer is 600cm3

Give it a go 😊 (The first one is 10 x 10 x 6 = 600cm3)

Challenge: Draw 3 different cuboids with a volume of 24cm3 by writing the dimensions. Your drawing does not have to be to scale but it does have to be neat!
