Interdisciplinary Learning Ancient Greece This term our context is Ancient Greece. We are learning about life in Ancient Greece, and how this compares to our lives today. We are also exploring the ways in which Ancient Greece changed the world through inventions. We will enhance our learning through different art and drama techniques. We will use technology to share our learning. What I will be learning in P 4 Term 2020-2021 Successful Learner Effective Contributor Confident Individual Responsible Citizen Curriculum Areas Literacy – Listening and Talking Through our IDL context we will develop our persuasive language skills to take part in debates. Literacy - Reading Through a novel study of “Charlotte’s Web” we are developing our ability to recall key events, interpret the author’s word choice and answer different types of questions. We also have regular opportunities to select texts of choice and read independently for enjoyment. Literacy - Writing -Through the context of Greek myths, we are learning to sequence stories in a logical order and then using these to create our own stories. In writing we are focusing on extending our vocabulary, using a variety of connectives, interesting openers and accurate punctuation. Numeracy -In Numeracy developing our understanding of place value. We are focusing on ordering numbers, partitioning numbers, estimation and rounding and comparing numbers using the correct symbols (> greater than, < less than and = equals to). -We are exploring a variety of addition, subtraction and multiplication strategies to help solve mental or written calculations. We are putting these strategies into practise through daily mental maths activities. Maths -We are learning about time. We will practise telling 12- and 24-hour time on analogue and digital clocks, measuring durations of time, and interpreting calendars and timetables. Health & Wellbeing This term we are focusing on unit 8 of our Building Resilience Programme “Look on The Bright Side”. We are developing our positive thinking skills and strategies to help us cope with difficult feelings. PE We are developing our fitness and stamina through circuit Ethos & Life of the School - At East Craigs we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. We’ll have the opportunity to: Be an active member of one of the school’s 3 Houses – Almond, Barnton, and Maybury. Be nominated for the Team EC Award Celebrate our wider achievements Opportunities for Personal Achievement - As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we will also get the chance to learn through different experiences: House events and activities Topic-related outdoor learning Rights Respecting Class assembly Health and Well-being
