Interdisciplinary Learning We will begin the term looking at New Beginnings, transitioning from P2 and Home Learning to being in P3 and back in school. We will have a focus on health and safety, following new school guidelines and rules to ensure the safety of all. We will encourage a focus on health and wellbeing to reduce any anxieties about coming back to school. We will introduce a topic about Old Edinburgh – looking at locating Edinburgh on a map, comparisons between old and new, the significance of Edinburgh castle being on a volcano, stories from the past and significant individuals from Edinburgh’s history. Our learning will be led by children’s discussions and choices about what they would like to know. What I will be learning in P3 Term 2020-2021 Successful Learner Effective Contributor Confident Individual Responsible Citizen Curriculum Areas Literacy – Listening and Talking We will work on sharing weekend news – using a loud, clear voice. We are building in listening skills activities - following sets of instructions to complete a task. Literacy - Reading We will provide a range of focused reading materials to further develop reading skills. There will be an emphasis on comprehension and enjoyment. We will use blooms questions to support comprehension. We are reading ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ as our class novel with follow-up activities. Literacy - Writing We will consolidate phonic patterns and common spelling words. We will work on up-levelling sentences using adjectives and description in imaginative writing. We will work on writing instructions using the correct layout, different openers and verbs. We will continue to build in good vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation (VCOP) to our writing. We are beginning to learn the joins to use cursive handwriting. Numeracy We will continue developing our numeracy skills through following the progression of the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning. (SEAL). We will work on counting forwards and backwards to support mental addition, subtraction and problem- solving skills. We will also look at sharing out equally and counting in groups, as the foundation to multiplication and division skills. We will extend on this further through looking at fractions of quantities and fractions of shape. Maths We will explore number patterns and relationships and continuing number sequences. We will learn the symbols for ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ and use them correctly in number statements. Health & Wellbeing We will revise rights and responsibilities to create our class charter, linking to the UN Convention to the Rights of the Child. We will continue to progress through Building Resilience – looking on the bright side. We will further explore friendships and emotions, linking in with our daily Ethos & Life of the School Building Resilience We are learning to develop a range of strategies to help us build our resilience and bounce back during difficult times. We are exploring this through the character Skipper and the whole school Building Resilience Programme. Classroom Environment We are building familiarity with our new school and classroom rules and routines to ensure high levels of hygiene and regular hand-washing. We are continuing to ensure we are caring for each other and our resources to provide a safe and nurturing class environment. Opportunities for Personal Achievement We will continue with our TEAM EC weekly nominations – being announced in assemblies. All children continue to collect credits for their Houses: Maybury, Barnton and Almond. We will have opportunities to share and present personal achievements to celebrate in class, whether these are learning based or from extra-curricular activities at home.

PE We are working on athletics/fitness (Cooper run, HIIT Training, intervals, sprints, jumping) developing skills and techniques and improving levels of performance. We will begin learning the basics of orienteering. French We are learning to follow classroom instructions in French. We will develop conversation with simple conversational questions. We are learning colours and numbers in a variety of fun and meaningful ways.Technology/ICTWe will use technology across all curricular areas to enhance learning, continuing to use Education City for interactive lessons.
