Due to these uncertain times (Covid-19) that we are living in we reserve the right to alter certain terms and conditions within this document as we adjust to the constant changes in our country due to current circumstance. However, should you wish further clarity on any point in this prospectus, including the fee structure for the current year, please speak directly to school admin.

PLAYTIME ACADEMY'S MISSION STATEMENT

Our aim is that every child attending Playtime Academy for Little Learners will be encouraged and stimulated to his/her full potential in all areas of his/her life. Our most important goal of all is that when your child leaves Playtime he/she will leave with a healthy self-image and the assurance that he/she is unique and worthy of being loved and worthy of being treated with the respect that every child deserves. We wish you a pleasant association with Playtime and trust that both you and your child will have a happy and productive stay at Playtime Academy for Little Learners.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SELECTING A GOOD PRE-SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD TO ATTEND

Allowing your child to attend a good pre-school is fundamental because this is where the foundation of the child's academic future is laid and the learning of critical life skills is developed.

Parents need to distinguish between a daycare facility and a facility where good pre-school education is delivered. A good pre-school will have the facilities in which playing and learning can take place in a stimulating and loving environment under the supervision of trained and qualified personnel. It is vital that a good pre-school also has the correct and sufficient amount of educational tools/equipment in order for the children to develop in all areas of development i.e. outdoor equipment for gross motor development and educational toys for indoor activities, etc.

A good resource center for referral to therapists - occupational, psychological, speech etc. is also imperative to ensure the holistic development of the child in areas where it may be needed.

SCHOOL READINESS

School readiness is a process which takes place from birth and is part of the normal development of the child. Part of this development takes place in a pre-school environment and this is usually over approximately a 3-4 year period. If a child is in a good pre-school environment and has been given sufficient opportunity for healthy and holistic development, he/she should be school-ready by the time he/she reaches the compulsory school-going age. School readiness simply means that a child is ready to cope with the activities expected.

At Playtime Academy for Little Learners we receive children from the age of 2.5-3 years old and take them through to the completion of their Grade R year. During this period the children are stimulated and inspired to learn in a loving and safe learning environment which provides the children with opportunities to develop in a well-rounded manner. There are different aspects of development for children of all ages, social and emotional, cognitive and physical development. All of these aspects of development are equally important and are holistically integrated in a good pre-school curriculum.

PARENTS CONTRIBUTION TO THE CHILD'S EDUCATION

Unfortunately, many parents believe that it is the sole responsibility of the school and the teachers to educate their child and get the child school-ready. This is not so, as it is one of the key features of our education system in South Africa that parents become involved in their child's learning experience. Learning does not just happen in the school, it is a lifelong experience. The benefit of parents getting involved in this process with their child on a daily basis far outweighs the effort. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to teach healthy social, moral and spiritual values to their child as well as an opportunity for bonding of family relationships.

We invite parents to become involved in the school as much as they can. When parents get involved even if it is just in being polite and appreciative toward the staff on a daily basis, your child will realize that school is an important part of your lives.

Get involved in volunteering when help is required. Hands-on dads and moms are ALWAYS appreciated in any school!

Parents are encouraged to attend every parent - teacher meeting, or any other important meetings at the school. This sends a very positive message to your child when you make a determined effort to attend these meetings.

HOW THE PARENTS CAN ASSIST THEIR CHILD TO ENJOY THEIR DAY AT SCHOOL AND HAVE AN OPTIMAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE EVERY DAY

· Are you, the parents, ready to "let go"? Be sure you are not holding them back. This can be a very distressing and daunting experience for parents, but if parents work together with the child's teacher, and the school, the transition will be easier and pretty soon the child will enjoy a happy and fun-filled day at school

· Going to school is one of the most important steps in a child's life and involved and interested parents can make a large contribution toward the chances of their child having a successful and happy school career.

· Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep - a tired child cannot learn and will definitely not co-operate with the teacher or have a fun day at school.

· Teach your child to respect and obey his/her teacher.

· Teach your child to respect his/her friends and fellow students.

· Teach your child to respect both his/her belongings and those of others.

· Teach your child to respect all school property.

· Never speak disrespectfully of your child's teacher - this causes confusion and conflict in your child and causes the child difficulty in settling in the classroom.

· A child is led by his/her parents feelings and comments - be happy and positive when you discuss your child's day at school as well as when you drop them off in the morning.

· Encourage your child to play with friends by teaching them some of the following social skills "to have a friend you must first BE a friend”, “we don't HURT a friend we HUG a friend", “we need to WAIT our turn and not INTERRUPT our friend or teacher” etc. These amongst others are very important social skills to teach your child especially if they are an only child, or have never been to a school before

· Adhere to ALL school rules. Respect and support the school's decisions. The parents and the school should work together for the benefit of the child. If you work against the school or do not co-operate, you will create confusion and or distress in your child.

· If your child is in Grade 00 or Grade R he/she is required to wear the full school uniform at all times. Instill a sense of pride in your child both for the uniform and the school.

· Respond promptly to all requests made by the school as delaying to do so will impact your child directly.

· If at any time you are unsure about something happening at school or you are unhappy about something, phone the school secretary and make an appointment so that clarity can be made on the situation.

· On a daily basis, discuss your child's day at school with him/her - without interrogating the child show a keen and sincere interest in their day and their experience at school.

· Working with your child's teacher and following her advice and following the advice of the resource teachers when needed, is of vital importance.

· Don't do for your child what he/she can do for him/herself - teach the child independence.

I would like to encourage all parents to give your child the quality time he/she needs with you each day - this is usually the first hour after you arrive home from work or school. This does not mean the whole evening is spent on one child alone - other family members and commitments need your attention as well.

Have fun with your child. Teach him/her how to cope with the difficult situations he/she faces each day. Teach him/her how to cope with the knocks he/she will experience in life.

Parents who spend quality time with their children, lovingly teaching them and guiding them, are laying fundamental building blocks for their child’s emotional and intellectual success!

Children learn what they live/experience, not what you tell them

If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn

If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight

If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be sly

If a child lives with jealousy, he learns to feel guilty

If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient

If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident

If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate

If a child lives with fairness, he learns to find justice

If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith

If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself

If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world

SCHOOL REPORTS

Reports are sent out three times a year ie: March, June and in December. Below is a list of some of the terminology used on the reports followed by a brief explanation.

Parents are to take very seriously what is written on the reports and follow through on all the recommendations made.

Parent’s note: Early intervention is always preferable, rather than causing your child distress in their learning experience when help is readily on hand. Always keep every report in a safe place as it will be needed to track your child's process of learning.

Characteristics of a Two year old

· The child may have selective hearing

· Has an active imagination

· The child may experience fears and anxieties

· Is possessive of toys and attention

· The child finds it difficult to understand the concept of sharing

· Does not want to wait

Characteristics of a Three year old

· The child is less impatient and self-centered

· Sometimes separates well from mother

· The child still has temper tantrums

· Cannot distinguish between reality and fantasy

· The child thinks that they know everything

· The child thinks that they can do everything

Characteristics of a Four year old

· The child questions everything, why, when and how?

· The child may have an imaginary friend

· The child is able to argue with words rather than blows

· The child often shows verbal impatience and bickering

· The child can take turns, share and follow simple rules

· The child becomes a bossy boots

· The child begins to show empathy for others

Characteristics of a Five year old

· The child is enthusiastic, determined and occasionally stubborn

· The child is able to talk about their feelings and thoughts

· The child can control and modify his behaviour

· The child will happily share and take turns

· The child is eager to win the approval of their peers

· The child can engage in friendships based on mutual trust

· The child plays games with rules and understands that rules cannot be changed

· The child is able to imagine that future events may give rise to developing fears

Characteristics of a Six year old

· The child is able to follow basic instructions

· The child is capable of expressing their emotions, fears and problems competently

· The child has mastered enough skills in order to be reasonably independent and self-sufficient

· The child can compare themselves to others and judge themselves accordingly

· The peer group has a significant impact on shaping the child’s self-image

TERMINOLOGY FOUND ON THE REPORTS

Co-ordination

The ability to use different parts of the body together smoothly and efficiently.

Laterality

The ability to distinguish between the left and the right sides of the body. It also involves the inner awareness of the left and right sides of the body.

Dominance

The child has chosen a preferred hand, eye and foot.

Crossing the midline

The left and the right side of the brain work together to work and play with ease. It is important for all academic tasks – gross and fine motor control, drawing, cutting, writing and reading. It also impacts dance and ball skills.

Muscle tone

The natural tension in all the muscles. This forms the basis for movement and balance.

Gross Motor development

This includes the large parts of the body and the ability to control these parts and complete movements such as galloping, skipping, hopping and jumping with ease.

Fine motor development

This includes the small body parts and the ability to control these parts and complete tasks such as; cutting, drawing, writing, painting, threading and manipulating art and craft equipment such as paint brushes effectively.

Spatial relations

This is the ability to perceive space and their position or orientation within that space. This is an important skill because it is necessary for reading, writing and solving math problems.

Manipulates writing tools effectively

This is the ability to manipulate writing tools such as pencils and crayons correctly. Using the correct tripod grip and applying the correct amount of pressure when writing.

Gender

This is the ability to know whether they are a boy or a girl.

Visual perception

This is the ability to interpret the surrounding environment by processing information that is contained in visible light.

Visual closure

This is the ability complete an image when all the information has not been given.

Fore and Background distinction

The ability to see objects distinct from one another or from objects in the background when presented with lots of visual information.

Visual memory

This is the ability to recall characteristics of something that they have only seen through accessing their short term memory. This is an important skill as they are then able to recognize numbers and words that they have seen before much quicker and easier.

Visual sequential memory

This is the ability to recall the information presented on a visual level in sequence. This helps with important skills such as spelling and reading.

Visual analysis (parts and wholes)

This is the ability to look at an object and break it up into parts. This skill helps children complete tasks that involve problem solving and reading.

Sequences and patterns

This skill has to do with ordering and it is important for children to remember the correct sequence of letters when learning to spell.

Spatial orientation

Children learn important concepts such as left, right, top, and bottom and they learn to work from left to right and top to bottom. They see and understand the difference between 9 and 6.

Auditory discrimination

This is the ability to discern differences and similarities between certain sounds.

Auditory memory

This is the ability to retain information received through hearing.

Auditory perception

This is the ability of the brain to interpret information received through hearing.

Cognitive development

Cognitive development is the process by which a child learns to reason, solve problems and to think consciously. Cognitive development allows preschool-age children (ages 3 to 4 years old) to develop their own questions about the world around them and how it works. Preschool-age children learn by playing, listening, watching, asking questions and doing things for themselves. These activities help a child's brain develop and understand more complex thoughts and processes as they grow.

Visual motor integration

This is the ability to make sense of visual information and then use it appropriately for a motor task. e.g. writing and using utensils correctly

Environmental sounds

The sounds heard on a daily basis – running water, door opening and closing, the rustling of leaves and birds singing / chirping.

CODES AND ETHICS AND CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE

Please familiarize yourself with the contents of this document as it ensures that once you sign the application form, all parties are in agreement and are aware of expectations.

1. At the point of admission to Playtime Academy for Little Learners it is made clear to all prospective pupils and their parents that they are expected to co-operate with the teaching and support staff and to promote the greater good of the whole Playtime community. We also wish to establish a full partnership with parents in order to promote the interests of the pupil body. This partnership must be based upon mutual honesty and respect.

In terms of our admission policy, learners of all religions and belief systems (including Muslim, Jewish, Jehovah Witnesses, Christian and atheist) are welcome to enroll at our school.  Should learners (or their parents) of their own free will choose to enroll at our school, they do so with the knowledge and understanding (and by implication, agreement) that the school holds to a Christian ethos and Christian values. At all times, participation in any Christian practices or activities including attendance of prayer, evangelism opportunities or nativity plays etc. are completely free and voluntary. No learner is ever forced to participate in such practices against his/her will.

2. The school opens at 07h00 and closes at 17h30 SHARP! All children collected after 17h30 will be charged a fee of R10.00 per minute which is payable to the teachers who stay behind to look after the child. This fee is payable immediately. No teacher is left alone with a child. Therefore 2 members of staff will remain with the child.

3. Please keep the gate to the entrance of the school premises closed at all times.

4. No parent is permitted to enter the school building due to current Covid-19. This rule is enforced to ensure your child’s safety. Please co-operate in the safety of all children.

5. No acutely sick child may be brought to school. A child with a contagious condition MAY NOT BE AT SCHOOL BY LAW!!! Each teacher has a full class to take care of and cannot take care of a sick child.

6. No toys, sweets, chips or cool drink may be brought to school. These articles will be removed.

7. All clothing and shoes must be clearly marked. Hairclips/bands and socks are to match uniform colours, etc. All Grade 00’s and Grade R’s are required to wear school uniform. Teachers and staff will not be held accountable for lost property.

8.ALL FEES ARE PAYABLE IN ADVANCE BY NO LATER THAN THE FIRST (1ST) DAY OF EVERY MONTH AFTER WHICH A 5% LEVY ON THE FULL AMOUNT WILL BE CHARGED. Unfortunately, your child will not be admitted if his/her fees have not been paid by the 5th of any month. Your child will then be re-admitted upon payment of the fees and levy. We regret that we will not engage between third parties for the collection of school fees i.e. in the case of divorced or separated parents.

9.Playtime Academy for Little learners reserves the right to withhold any academic and/or other information concerning the Applicant’s child or children’s progress if any fees are outstanding or not paid in full.

10. EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE: This is a structured language program to aid children with basic communication barriers. This program is compulsory for children that are Xhosa and Afrikaans speaking, where English is not their first language or where the child’s teacher has made the recommendation. The program has a large visual content and contains a great deal of repetition so that the pupils learn the words very quickly with emphasis being placed on pupil participation and enjoyment. Children are also recommended for this class to build their self-confidence.

11. To the extent that there may be security cameras installed on the School premises and grounds, this shall be solely

for viewing by the Owner(s) / Principal and teaching staff of the School and by no other person unless prior

arrangements have been made with the Owner(s) / Principal of the School or her nominee which request for viewing

can be refused in the sole and absolute discretion of the Owner(s) / Principal of the School or her nominee. The

School hereby undertakes not to allow any person other than the Owner(s) / School Principal and staff access to such

video footage unless required to do so by law or court order.

12. In the event of a parent for whatsoever reason wishes to terminate his / her agreement with the School to care for and educate his / her child, the parent shall give one calendar month’s written notice (our requirements for a calendar month is from the 1st of a particular month to the end of that particular month for example: the 1st of January 2016 to the 31st of January 2016) thereof to the School and full school fees shall still be payable for such notice period irrespective of whether the parent removes the child from the School before expiry of the notice period.

The School hereby reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to likewise give notice of termination of this agreement to the parent on a month’s notice which notice period need not to be a calendar month. However, should such circumstances arise which in the sole and absolute discretion of the Owner(s)/ Principal of the School or her nominee warrant immediate termination by the School of its agreement with the parent to care for and educate his / her child, the School shall be entitled to forthwith and without any notice period terminate this agreement with the parent. Notwithstanding the aforegoing, no notice may be given for November and December of a year, unless otherwise agreed by the Owner(s) / Principal of the school.

13. NB: No notice may be given in November and December of a year. The final notice period in any given year must be handed in by the 1st of October of any current year All children must start in January of a year where possible. The full month’s fees for January are applicable.

14.Throughout the year photographs/videos are taken by staff/videographer/photographer as part of our year calendar as well as for our website and birthday parties. As everyone is aware, we cannot stop people copying, pasting and downloading pictures. Our website designer has assured us that no person can alter our photographs in any way which are displayed on our website.

15. Each child must bring 2 rolls of paper towel at the beginning of EVERY month. This will be used to dry their hands after washing.

16.Should any problem arise, please contact the School Secretary. She will then inform the principal and arrange a meeting if required to discuss the problem. Please do not criticize the school unjustly. We cannot correct a problem of which we are unaware. Communication is key.

17. Because of a lack of parking space outside our premises, we request that you collect and drop your child off as quickly as possible. Please do not engage in long discussions at peak hour. Rather phone the teacher, write a note or make an appointment. We would love to chat, but not at the expense of someone being parked in.

18. No medication can be administered at Playtime unless the medication is in a sealed packet or container and we have written instructions from the parents with the following information: Name of Child, Date, Dosage, Name of the medicine and parents signature. Please refer to your child’s A5 message book to see an example of the medicine note. Please note that NO emails may be sent with these instructions, the instructions need to be attached to the medicine when dropped off. This is a ruling directly from the health department. Medicine is not to be left in a child’s suitcase as this is extremely dangerous as they could get hold of it during the day. Administer the first dose at home please and we will administer the lunchtime dose ONLY. Please ensure all medicine bottles are CLEAN and sealed correctly. (Due to Covid protocol we may not administer medication until further notice.)

19. Please inform us of any injuries which your child has incurred at home. The school will inform the parent of any injuries which happen at school.

20.When children willfully or deliberately break school toys or equipment, parents will be expected to contribute towards the replacement.

21. You are encouraged to attend Parent/Teacher consultations. In doing so you will be kept up to date with your child’s progress at school. For now, due to Covid, we will be having virtual parent-teacher meetings.

22. Please encourage your child to respect and obey his/her teacher. This will aid and facilitate his/her learning and development. You will do your child a great disservice to break down or discuss the teacher in a negative light in front of him/her.

23. Do not place money in your child’s suitcase! We will NOT be held accountable for monies lost. Thank you.

24. Please inform the school when someone other than yourself will be fetching your child from Playtime. If YOU NEGLECT TO DO THIS YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE HANDED OVER! Please co-operate as it can cause extreme embarrassment both to the school and the person collecting your child. This must be done via e-mail, SMS (text message) or WhatsApp stating the person’s name, surname and ID number. This must be presented to the school with the person collecting the child.

25. The size of your child’s suitcase locker is Length 37cm X Width 23cm X Depth 40cm. Please ensure that his/her suitcase can be accommodated in this space.

26.The school will close for a period of 1 month over Christmas and New Year every year and a full fee will be charged for January of the following year irrespective of whether your child attends school in the January of that year. We are also closed on Public Holidays, as well as declared school holidays.

I, the undersigned, acknowledge that I have read the Prospectus, the codes and ethics of the School as well as, its fee structure and all documents enclosed herewith and that I understand the contents thereof and regard it as legally binding upon me. We hereby wish to state that we cannot guarantee nor be held responsible for your child’s acceptance to Grade 1 in any public or private school in Port Elizabeth. However, we would like to state that the Principals of the private and public schools have stated that they are very impressed with the preparation of our students for the foundation phase. Acceptance in all private and public schools for the grade 1 year for all learners is based on the relevant schools admissions policy and available positions.

Note - the fee structure includes breakfast, cooked lunch, sandwiches, school juice and computer classes.

(Grade R / Pre-primary Class: teaching morning from 8am until 12.30 noon. R3100.00 w.e.f. 01.01.2021 (Payable over 11 months – January to November)(fee applicable irrespective of hours spent at school))

A few friendly requests of all our families when paying fees:

· A 5% fine (of the total fee due) will be charged for any fees paid AFTER THE 1st of the MONTH. SEE APPLICATION FORM.

· An annual fee increase of approximately 10% is effective from 1 September of every year.

· Please pay fees in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and class and the breakdown of what you are paying – especially if you are paying by cash and hand this in at the office. Internet transaction is preferred.

· If your payment requires change of less than R10.00, this will be considered a donation to school fundraising. If you object to this then please include the correct amount with your payment – no hard feelings!!!

· Do not leave money in your child’s bag. Hand all monies to the staff member at the door. We will not be held responsible for monies lost from children’s bags while on our premises.

· All receipts for payments to the Playtime School account will be issued on request.

· All internet transactions are to be treated ‘as cash’ in that the transaction report needs to be handed in (BEFORE THE 1st). Please make sure that your child’s name and class appear on the transaction.

· Where fees are not paid timeously the school reserves the right to institute appropriate legal action against parents who fail to pay such fees timeously. Should this be necessary all costs incurred by the school in the recovery of such outstanding fees shall be payable by the defaulting parent on an attorney and own client scale, together with interest and collection commission.

EXTRA-MURALS

All extra-murals are to be paid in ADVANCE directly into the respective company’s accounts with the exception of CrackerJax and Expressive Language classes. These fees must be paid in cash and handed in at the office at Playtime.

BALLET: (Elmarie van Zyl) BY MONICA (Cell: 083 643 1025)

This school has been operating for the last 30 years and has been successful in more than one way. Elmarie van Zyl, who is the principal of the school, has been trained in both the RAD and Cecchetti methods of Dance. Over the years her school has participated in many festivals and Eisteddfods in the Eastern Cape and walked away with top awards. Her exam pupils have also done exceptionally well and one of her previous pupils is now dancing in a ballet company in Sydney, Australia. For the last 10 years she has been concentrating on the pre-primary level children, getting them ready for further education in dance. Her course offers different dance forms, ranging from Ballet, Modern Dancing and Creative movement. It is imperative that children must move in order to develop important muscles and co-ordination functions, and this is what this course is all about .Children can enroll from the age of 3 years. If they can concentrate, they can dance!

Maths Classes for children aged 3-10.

Miki Maths Magic is a popular extra-curricular activity that helps young children develops a rich understanding of important mathematical concepts. The Miki Maths Programme as well as the IMPACT system has been researched and developed by Wally Thiele. As a Maths teacher with over twenty years experience, he knows the problems that children develop with Mathematics. He has extensive experience in various educational areas such as teaching, curriculum development, didactics and management. Wally is the owner and managing director of Miki Maths Magic. Together with his team of experienced tutors he ensures that the programme stays up to date and effective. Our Franchisees and Tutors believe in the Miki Maths philosophy and are passionate about young children. All of them have been well trained in the different aspects of the programme.

DANCE MOUSE: BY SIAN-BETH HITCHNER (Cell: 082 640 7664)

The Dance Mouse concept began about 8 years ago and was originally developed as a pre-school syllabus only. It had become apparent that there was not an age appropriate structured dance syllabus with the result that many young dancers were suffering injuries and ending their dance careers prematurely. It was obvious that we needed to create a good solid dance foundation syllabus. The unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself. Dance Mouse uses a variety of equipment to help improve children’s proprioception skills. Pom-poms, Scarves, Ribbons, Umbrella’s, Hats, Bean Bags and Hoola Hoops are used to help cross the midline and improve coordination and body awareness. Balance Boards, Pilates Balls and Hedge Hogs are used for increased stability, improved posture and core strength.

YOUTH CRICKET ACADEMY: BY GLENN BESTER (Tel: 041 365 2225 / Cell: 083 650 3370)

The Youth Cricket Academy has been a popular extra -mural for children of all ages since 2001.   The unique sport of Cricket incorporates 3 very essential skills; hitting, throwing and catching, which people use daily for the rest of their lives.   Our passionate young coaches host energy packed lessons where a young sportsman will have his skills, reflexes and hand-eye coordination enhanced... giving him a huge advantage and confidence boost, when starting ball skills in Gr. 1.   Our pre-school program will have children split into very small groups to develop these valuable areas of coordination, which are transferable to most other sport in primary school.   Our players noticeably stand out in Gr. 1 as players who have an advanced understanding of the game and a competent ability when participating.   We make up missed lessons at the Youth Cricket Academy in Walmer, which also offers Private Lessons to players.

CRACKERJAX: BY JESSICA FERREIRA (Tel: 041 365 2225)

This is an auditory and visual perceptual skills class.

Through games and worksheets children are given the opportunity to strengthen these skills. These skills will help your child with activities such as reading and writing.

EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE: BY JESSICA FERREIRA (Tel: 041 – 365 2225)

This is a structured language program to aid children with basic communication barriers. This program is compulsory for children where English is not their first language. The program has a large visual content and contains a great deal of repetition so that the pupils learn the words very quickly with emphasis being placed on pupil participation and enjoyment. This programme is also recommended for confidence building.

WILENE WIGGILL OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INC: (041 379 1130 / [email protected] )

Our practice was established in 2013 and has grown into a busy practice with 2 dedicated therapists, who together have many years of OT experience between them. We are also very excited for a third therapist to join us in 2019. Therapists work hand in hand to allow for the best possible therapy for each client. We are a multifaceted practice focusing on pediatric assessments, treatments and recommendations. This includes the use and sale of therapeutic equipment, including pencil grips and air cushions as well as monthly workshops presented at the practice.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST: TAMERYN DE JESUS

Occupational Therapy uses a holistic approach in treating children who have different needs. We use a bottom up approach to ensure that all of the “gaps” in the child’s development gets intervention to ensure that the child achieves what is expected of them developmentally and academically. We assist in developing the child’s sensory systems, their motor development, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills and many more.

I obtained my Bsc. Occupational Therapy Degree from the University of the Western Cape in 2016. I am busy completing the post graduate course in Sensory Integration. I am currently an Occupational Therapist at a well-established practice in Port Elizabeth, Wilene Wiggill Occupational Therapy Inc. I work at main stream schools and a special care center for children with disabilities.

Working with children and assisting them to reach their full potential is my passion. We will be partners, together with your child’s teacher, to best assist your child in meeting their goals.

Kinderkinetics is a specialized field of study, within the broader Human Movement Sciences, involving physical movement in young children.

Happy, healthy and active lifestyles are promoted in a holistic and fun way, while developing all the necessary physical skills.

Kinderkinetics sessions are scientifically shaped to enhance the neuromotoric development of young children (0 - 13 years) in the following modes: Remedial, Health improvement and Optimization of existing skills.

I am a trained Speech-, Language and Hearing Therapist and obtained my honors degree from the University of Stellenbosch. 

Lara Day is a trained Speech-Language Pathologist.  She obtained her BSc degree (with honors) from the University of Cape Town.  She completed her community service year in Grahamstown at Settlers Hospital, where she gained valuable experience in the pediatric population.  She is passionate about the pediatric population and strives to make communication accessible to all.

Jahna Pheiffer Speech Therapy is a pediatric Speech Therapy practice where we focus on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children with a variety of speech and language difficulties.  

The aspect of speech refers to the verbal means of communication that includes articulation (the manner in which sounds are formed and produced) and fluency (the flow and rhythm of speech). 

Language can be largely divided in receptive language (comprehension of language) and expressive language (usage of language).  Language can furthermore be sub-divided in the form of language, which

comprises of morphology (system that governs the structure of words and the construction of word forms), syntax (governing the order and combination of words to form sentences, and the relationships among the elements within a sentence); the content of language, also known as semantics (system that governs the meanings of words and sentences) and the function of language in communication, also known as pragmatics (is the combination of language components in a functional and socially appropriate communication).

Mattresses

It is required that EVERY child must have a NEW mattress at the beginning of each year for hygiene purposes and due to the fact that the density of the foam only lasts a year. Old mattresses will be returned to the parent on the last day of school.
