WEEKLY REMOTE LEARNING PLANNING FORM ROOM #10

WEEKOF: January 4th TEACHER’S NAME: Diana

Day of the Week DAILY FOCUS Play focus

MondayDate: 1/4/2021

Daily Focus: The teacher will introduce the new unit of “water”. In this unit, we will learn all about water and all the things water does for us and our home, planet Earth. The teacher will ask the students: “Where can we find water?”. Teacher will invite the students to respond. We have water in oceans, rivers, in our sinks, bathtubs, and we also have water to drink. The teacher will introduce the “Water, Water Everywhere” song to the students. As a class, the teacher and the students will explore and learn the song and the movements to the song. The class will explore each line of the song and discuss how water is all around us, and why it is important to save water.

Group Goal For The Week: Water is all around us. There are many bodies of water on our planet Earth, including oceans, rivers, and lakes. Water is also part of the weather, and can come from the sky in forms of rain and snow. We use water everyday to drink, wash our bodies, and wash our hands. We are able to get water in many places, including from pipes that connect to our sinks and showers or bathtubs. We are also able to get water at school, home, or even at the grocery store where we can buy water.

Literacy: Letter of the week: co Read or look at pictures in a book. Point

out pictures and review what letter pictures start with. Encourage the student to find objects that begin with the letter of the week. High five or clap when you find a picture that begins with the letter of the week, C.

Writing: Create a word puzzle! In large clear letters, write the word “Water” on a piece of paper. Cut the paper into pieces for your student to put together. If your student is familiar with puzzles, you can challenge them by cutting the paper into more pieces. If your child requires support with puzzles, consider cutting the paper into less pieces that are larger in size. Encourage the student to use glue to put the puzzle together on another piece of paper.

Art: Salt Water Art! Using paint and a piece of paper, encourage your student to draw the paper like the inside of the ocean. Include lots of blues and other colors to represent fish, coral, seaweed, etc. When your student is finished painting, encourage your student to sprinkle salt all over the piece of paper and leave it out to dry. Now watch the magic happen! The salt will melt some of the paint and will leave a beautiful piece of art when it is dried!

Blocks: Ice Castles: Invite students to look at pictures of ice castles and invite them to refer to these pictures and recreate ice castles of their own using blocks, plastic cups, or any materials available to them.

Daily Focus: The teacher will review with the class that we are learning about water this month. The teacher and the class will review our “Water, Water Everywhere” song, and will go through each line and the movements of the song. The teacher will ask the students: Where can we find water? The teacher will invite the students to offer suggestions and ideas of where we find water. The teacher will introduce the words : ocean, river, and lakes. The class the discuss and explore what an ocean, river, and lake is. The class will discuss where these bodies of water are, and what animals may live inside of them.

Literacy: Letter of the week: co Look through magazines or newspapers

to find pictures that begin with the letter of the week. Encourage the student to cut out the pictures and glue them onto another piece of paper to create a letter C collage.

Writing: Encourage your child to think about all the ways they use water. Discuss how we use water to drink, wash our hands, and wash our bodies. Encourage your student to draw a picture of themselves or someone they know using water. Help your child verbalize what they drew and express themselves and how they use water. Praise the student on their writing/drawing, and their ability to use a writing or drawing utensil to express their thoughts.

Art: Create an ocean, river, or lake! Using blue paint, encourage your child to paint a piece of paper blue. They can use a paint brush, q-tips, their fingers, or anything they choose to color in

Page 6: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 5. · Create a word puzzle! ... Now watch the magic happen! The salt will melt some of the paint and will leave a beautiful piece

the paper. Then, sketch some outlines of fish, or encourage your student to draw fish, then glue the fish onto the painted blue piece of paper. Ask your child: What does the water do for the fish? Is water important to the fish?

Math: Number of the week: 2 - Using any materials you have available to you, have the student count out 2 items, and glue them onto a piece of paper. (Cotton balls, stickers, pieces of paper). Encourage the student to practice counting out the nine items and writing the number 2.

Science: Salt and Ice: Supply salt and ice. Invite children to explore how these materials react to each other. Children might want to pour the salt onto the ice, or use pipettes to squirt salt water onto the ice. Engage children in conversations to extend their thinking and support their understanding.

Page 7: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 5. · Create a word puzzle! ... Now watch the magic happen! The salt will melt some of the paint and will leave a beautiful piece

Dramatic Play: Sailing on the ocean! Pretend to be in a boat and sail on the ocean. If you have a large cardboard box available, your student can sit in the box and pretend it’s a boat. Use animal toys you have at home to “fish out” animals from the ocean.

• Water/Sensory: Drops on a Penny: Provide a penny, a pipette, and a container of water. Invite children to see how many drops of water they can fit on the penny. Encourage children to count each drop of water as it drops onto the penny and occasionally note how many drops there altogether.

The teacher will help the students remember what we learned about water the day before, about oceans, rivers, and lakes. The teacher will ask the students: Is there water in the sky? The teacher will invite the students to share their thoughts and ideas. The teacher will introduce the idea that water comes from the sky too. Water comes down in the form of rain and snow. The class will explore what rain and snow is, what it feels like, and what we may need to go outside if it is raining or snowing.

Group Goal For The Week: Water is all around us. There are many bodies of water on our planet Earth, including oceans, rivers, and lakes. Water is also part of the weather, and can come from the sky in forms of rain and snow. We use water everyday to drink, wash our bodies, and wash our hands. We are able to get water in many places, including from pipes

Literacy: Letter of the week: co Encourage the student to find items

around the classroom, home, or community, that begin with the letter C (cat, coat, carrot, etc.)

Writing: Write down the letter C (letter of the week) in large clear handwriting on a piece of paper. Encourage your student to use any materials you can find at home (q-tips, cotton, paperclips, etc.) to trace the letter with the items and glue them onto the letter.

Page 9: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 5. · Create a word puzzle! ... Now watch the magic happen! The salt will melt some of the paint and will leave a beautiful piece

that connect to our sinks and showers or bathtubs. We are also able to get water at school, home, or even at the grocery store where we can buy water.

Art: Create raining clouds! Using cotton-balls, encourage your child to glue cotton balls onto the top of a piece of paper to create clouds. For extra support, you can trace a cloud shape for your student to glue to cotton in. Then using paint and a dropper (found in medicine bottles, essential oil bottles, or any pharmacy/store), encourage your student to drop droplets of paint onto the page (close to the clouds), and help them tilt the paper so that the droplet creates a stream going down. When the paint has dried, you will have a beautiful artwork of raining clouds! If your paint is very thick, you can water it down a bit. If you have food coloring, that works just as well as paint.

Blocks: Encourage your student to use paper to represent water and use it when playing with blocks, carboard boxes, or other materials. Encourage students to build boats on their water.

Page 10: hidecorg.files.wordpress.com  · Web view2021. 1. 5. · Create a word puzzle! ... Now watch the magic happen! The salt will melt some of the paint and will leave a beautiful piece

Math: Number Puddle Jumping! Using pieces of blue paper, write numbers 1-10 (and 11-20 for an extra challenge) on each blue paper (one number per paper). Place the papers on the floor and encourage your child to jump puddles. Call out numbers and encourage your student to jump to the correct number/puddle.

Science: Ice Cube – what happens? Provide your student with a bowl of ice and a bowl of water. (If you have food dye, you can add a few drops to color the water). Then, encourage your student to place ice cubes in the water and see what happens. What do you notice? Is the ice melting? How long does it take to melt? Is the water warm or cold?

Music & Movement: Singing in the Rain Based on the song by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown Play this song aloud for the children and invite them to sing and/or dance along and pretend they are in the rain.

ThursdayDate: 1/7/2021

Daily Focus: The teacher will review with the class that we are learning about water this month. The teacher and the class will review our “Water, Water Everywhere” song, and will go through each line and the movements of the song. The teacher will ask the students: Where can we find water? The teacher will invite the students to offer suggestions and ideas of where we find water. The teacher will help the students remember what we learned about so far,

Literacy: Letter of the week: co Mystery box or bag: place pictures of

objects that begin with the letter of the week in a box or bag. Encourage the student to pull out pictures and name the object. Encourage the student to repeat the letter, the sound the letter makes, and the name of the object.

about where we find water. After reviewing what we learned, the teacher will ask the students: “Where else can we find water?”. The teacher will invite the students to share their thoughts and ideas. The teacher will ask the students: “Do we use water at home?” The teacher will invite the students to respond and will guide their responses to discuss how we use water everyday: to drink, wash our hands, and wash ourselves in the shower or bath. The teacher will invite the students to respond if they prefer to shower or take a bath. The teacher will help the students discuss how we find water in our home to wash our hands in the sink, and how we wash ourselves using water in the bath or shower. The class will discuss how we get water into our homes through pipes, that come out in the sink or shower.

Writing: Using tape or strips of paper, encourage your student to make letters. How many letters can you make? Help your child by providing example of letters and helping them identify the letter and the sound it makes.

Art: Water helps us wash our hands and keep them clean! Trace your child’s hands onto a piece of paper. Encourage them to show the germs on one hand by gluing items or drawing shapes onto the hand to represent germs. Then, encourage your child to cut out a rectangle shape, and a water drop shape from other pieces of paper. Provide your child with an outline if needed. On the rectangle, have your student write the word “soap”. Provide them with an example or write the word for them. Encourage your student to glue the soap and the water droplet onto the clean hand. Encourage your student to notice and discuss how there are germs on one hand and when you use soap and water, the germ go away and you have a

number of drops they put into each bubble to fill it up.

• Water/Sensory: Drops of Water: Provide a small dish of water, pipettes and Lego blocks. Invite children to try to place a drop of water on each of the raised circles on the Lego blocks.

Outdoor Play: Puddle Jump: Invite children to use paper to create paper puddles. If children are able, invite them to add a letter, number, number of dots, or shape to the puddles. If children are not able, but are willing to let you write on their puddles, you can add a letter, number, dots or shape to the puddle for them. Invite children to jump on a letter, number, or shape puddle as you call it out.

The teacher will help the class discuss and explore what they learned about water in the days prior. The teacher will ask the students: we have learned so much about where we find water. But where do we find the water that we drink?” The teacher will invite students to share their thoughts and ideas. The teacher will help lead the discussion to include how we have drinking water at home, school, and even in the store where we can buy water to drink. The class will discuss how we need to drink water to stay healthy, and how we get drinking water in our home, school, and at a grocery store.

Group Goal For The Week: Water is all around us. There are many bodies of water on our planet Earth, including oceans, rivers, and lakes. Water is also part of the weather, and can come from the sky in forms of rain and snow. We use water everyday to drink, wash our bodies, and wash our hands. We are able

Literacy: Letter of the week: co Click the link below to view “The Letter

to get water in many places, including from pipes that connect to our sinks and showers or bathtubs. We are also able to get water at school, home, or even at the grocery store where we can buy water.

Art: Painting with bubbles! Using a container with some paint mixed with a bit of water, encourage your child to use a straw to blow bubbles into the paint. (If you are worried about your student drinking the paint with the straw, use a pin to poke a small hole in the straw so they are not able to suck in). When they blow into the straw, bubbles will start to come up from the paint. Encourage your student to blow so that bubbles come to the top of the container, then use a piece of paper to place it over the container (onto the bubbles) and see the beautiful pattern the bubbles make on the paper.

Blocks: Supply empty, clean cardboard tubes such as paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes,

and wrapping paper tubes. Invite students to pretend the tubes are tunnels and to use them as they build. If children are interested, talk to them about how tunnels can help people navigate bodies of water.

Science: What dissolves in water? Provide your child with a few cups of water and a few materials that would dissolve in water, and some that wouldn’t. (Sugar, salt, flour, noodles, rice, oatmeal, baking soda). Encourage your student to look at the items and think about what items they think will dissolve (or disappear) in the water, and what items they think won’t dissolve. Then, encourage your student to place a spoonful of the materials in the water (one by one) and take note of what happens.
