Dear Years 5 and 6,

Art Projects this weekAs it is ‘Express Yourself’ week, we have decided to give you some options for art. You normally have three topic lessons a week now so should choose to work on at least two of these projects over the time. You need to choose from the following sculptural activities to do this week. We are expecting high quality and well thought out sculptures. However, we are not expecting you to do all of them. Have a try and see what you can make! On Friday 12th February we will be hosting a Show and Share Zoom where you can show the sculpture that you are most proud of this half term. Keep the sculptures you are making and choose your favourite to share. Who inspired you the most?

This week you have 4 different options:

Page 3:  · Web view2021/02/05  · we will be hosting a Show and Share Zoom where you can show the sculpture that you are most proud of this half term. Keep the sculptures you are making

Option 1: For all you dog lovers…How could you make this look like a dog you know? Could you use the same idea but make a different animal? How could you paint it? You will need: an egg box and some masking tape.

Option 2: PVA Glue art- Dale Chihuly.

Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor. However, we won’t be making our sculpture with glass, we will be making it with PVA glue, paint and wire. You will also need a plastic wallet and a board so that you can move it! It takes a while to dry (4 days +).

Option 3: Barbara Hepworth- soap carving1. Lay out your wire into a curved shape. 2. Twist the wire around and then ask an

adult to use pliers to twist the ends under.

3. You can then cover the ends in Sellotape so that you do not get scratched by them.

4. Mix PVA glue with your paint choice. If you have nozzled bottles, use them but you can do it with a paint brush as long as you leave the paint thick. If you have window sticker paint, that is perfect for this task. If not, use the PVA.

5. Make sure that the plastic wallet is on top of the cardboard.

6. Lay your wire as flat as you can on top and begin to fill in the shape with the PVA paint.

7. Make sure that there is no gap between the paint and the wire. Use a paintbrush or a stick to swirl the paint to make interesting patterns. You need quite a lot of paint.

8. Don’t worry if the paint seeps out of the wire frame. That is OK.

9. Leave to dry for at least 4 days. If you try to take it off the plastic too soon, it will rip.

10. When dry, carefully peel it off the plastic and bend it carefully into a new shape.

11. If the plastic comes off the wire, how could you curl it into something new?

Barbara Hepworth was a key figure in the British abstract art movement in the 20th century. She often created sculptures which were inspired by nature. She lived near the seaside in St Ives, Cornwall and often used the shapes of shells and rocks to inspire her work.

She loved to work with wood and stone and, later on, in bronze. Her sculptures seem to be growing and look very natural.

Take a look at her sculptures! Can you see all the different shapes and forms Hepworth uses? Which one would you like to make?

You will need:

Some cheap bars of white soap

A pencil

Scrapers and peelers – use teaspoons, potato peelers, scissors, a paperclip and similar object

Instructions: Think about how you could shape this soap. Remember: when carving, it is important that you are safe. Make sure that your fingers are well out of the way of any cutting implement.

Option 4: Outdoor Art

Can you create a natural sculpture? Spend some time in your garden (if you don’t have a garden, take a walk to your local park) and collect different

natural items (list above) that you could use to make your sculpture. When you have finished, if you can,

take a photo of your sculpture to show next Friday 12 th February to share on zoom.

Here are some more examples for inspiration:

Thursday – PSHE Share your Scarf week!DAY 4 - RESILIENCE

Each day of Share your Scarf week we're thinking about one of the SCARF

letters.Today is Resilience day! It's all about bouncing back when things go wrong

or when we feel fed-up.Copy the R for Resilience onto paper or card - an old cereal packet will do -

or print it. Then let your imagination go wild! All around and inside your letter

R, draw and write about the things you can do to bounce back when things go

wrong.Ideas to get you started...

1. What can I do to help myself bounce back when I’m feeling upset or fed-up about something?

2. Who can I talk to when I’m feeling that way?3. How can I help somebody else to bounce back if they are feeling upset or fed-

up?Share your scarf!

Display your R for Resilience poster for everyone to see. Maybe even stick it in a window to share it with your neighbours - remember to check with a grown-up at

home, first! There's a different letter each day for you to share with others. By the end of the

week, you'll be sharing your whole SCARF!For more information or you want to create the whole scarf click the link below:
