Newsletter # 15 Thursday, April 26, 2018

Dear PME families,

We have had a really productive month of school since coming back from Spring Break. The students have been involved in numerous learning activities from literacy groups, to inquiry projects, to SPCA visits, to various field trips, as well as all the wonderful daily activities they participate in. We will be welcoming our Quebec visitors next week as well. Always so much going on at PME!

This is the time of year when we begin discussions around class organizations for the coming year. If you wish to offer information about your child to facilitate this process, please read the details in the next section of the newsletter. In addition, staffing for next year has begun, so if you know you will be leaving the school in June, or if you know of families who have moved into our area, please let the office know as soon as possible.

On a personal note, I want to let you know that I will be retiring at the end of this school year. I have worked passionately in education for the past thirty-one years, and have cherished my last four years here at PME. The School Board will be announcing the new principal for the 2018-2019 year in the middle of May, and I will be sure to let you know who it is as soon as I know, and will invite him or her to come for a visit or two before the end of June.

All the best and enjoy the warmer weather!

Stephanie DandPrincipal

Class Placement for 2018 - 2019During the month of June staff prepare tentative and temporary class organizations to best plan for the opening of school in September. The process of organizing classes is complex and time consuming. Many factors are taken into account including: Academic needs Social needs Emotional needs Number of students per class Balance of male/female students Balanced distribution of students with special needs Parent requestsIf you have information regarding the specific learning needs or the type of learning environment that best suits your child, without naming specific teachers, please complete an Input For Consideration for Class Placement Form. This form is available at the office from May 1 – 31st.This form is not mandatory unless you want to provide input. Your student’s current teacher will be present at these placement meetings and he or she brings understanding to your child’s needs. The form is to be completed and returned to the school by June 1, 2018 only if you have additional educational or emotional information that you would like the school to consider.

Are you moving? We are currently working on the 2018 – 2019 staffing and the number of students that we have at each grade significantly impacts staffing levels. If you know that you are moving and will not be attending PME in September, we would appreciate you letting us know ASAP.

Appropriate Dress Just a friendly reminder as we begin to get beautiful weather to please dress appropriately. No undergarments showing, no short shorts, and no T-shirts with inappropriate language/pictures.

And when the rain returns, please ensure your child has appropriate dress.

West Coast Recess Plan At PME we subscribe to the West Coast Recess Plan. This means that we go outside unless the rain is torrential. Please help your child dress for outside play. If your child uses his or hers spare clothes, please return a clean dry set the following day. Jackets, hats, boots, and umbrellas are encouraged.

SCHOOL NEWS:

Parking at PMEParking Lot Reminders

-Always drive in and out of the parking lot in the correct direction, that is enter through the west entrance and exit though the east entrance.

-Use the drop off lanes for drop off only. Do not leave your car parked in the drop off lanes.

-Please do not block the entrance or exit areas by waiting there for your child. The drop off lanes do not extend around the curve toward the entrance of the parking lot. There is a large lot across from our parking lot that you are able to use if our lot is full when you arrive.

-Drive extremely slowly and with caution and vigilance. Students may be walking in the parking lot at any time.

-Please do not park in staff parking spots. We have many itinerant staff coming and going during the day and they need a place to park. Thank you.

-Most of all, please be respectful of your fellow drivers. We are all in a hurry at some point and we need to slow down and remember that student safety is the only thing that is truly important.

-The section of 119th Avenue from Harris Rd to the first bus stop is a no stopping zone. Please do not drop off or pick up your children along this stretch of 119 th.

Thank you so much for your patience and support. Together we can ensure the safety of everyone.

Student Leadership News#Humboldt StrongOver the years we have raised funds for numerous events/activities. We have been deeply touched by the Humboldt tragedy. #Humboldt strong

Student leaders would like to thank everyone for their generous donations on Jersey Day. We raised $1,380. and donated it to the Go Fund Me Humboldt page.
