I want to become the school education rep because I want to make a change to current and future students.1) I would give more information to current/future students on what the school of education could offer. 2) I would hold a meeting and find out how we could improve the campus. 3) I would be the face of the school of education and make sure any problems given to me via the students are sorted. The experiences I have are that I was a peer mentor in secondary where I was the first point for students to deal with problems. I was also a lead counsellor at a camp in America where I looked after and lead other counsellors sorting all sorts of tasks.I feel that I will lead with example and use all the experiences I have to develop the school of education.

I would like to represent my course and be able to make our experience as nice and rewarding as possible.

I would personally like to be learning about the research and breakthroughs that have been made in our subject by email as this will bring the students easy and quick accessible knowledge and will make them closer to their lecturers. Also I

would think it most beneficial if tutors and lectures would show the student actually what they are doing in the research as this could also help students

decide which job disciplines they would like to go into. Thirdly i would like there to be a forum where all the students from 1st years could talk to each other and get help from each other, this could be via facebook, student room or whatapp.

I previously been a peer mentor, prefect and house assistant in my previous school. This allowed me to help other people to resolve their problems being this homework or disputes. But now would like to move up to a leader role with more

responsibility and communication.

I am very passionate about my field of studies which has allowed me to have a fuller academic experience than most of other students. My interest in being the school education rep is driven by a genuine interest in the academic welfare of

my fellow colleagues as well as myself.1) Once elected I would endeavour to encourage a communal spirit amongst the

students and staff by organising more departmental activities. 2) I believe if students were to realise their value to the department and the university on a

whole this would ultimately translate to them having a better academic experience and this expels the feeling of just being a statistic. As such once

elected I would seek to provide a way to engage each student with the department. 3) Once elected I would seek to provide a regular and an open

feedback mechanism which allows the students to express any concern which may be held. All concerns and queries will also be addressed as soon they arise. 4)As a student one of my main concerns is seeing the real application of most of the topics covered in lectures. Once elected I would push the department to hold more seminars and talks whereby professionals and research individuals discuss

the relevance of our study to their day to day work.1) I was previously employed as an institutional sales trader and this was a job role that required excellent negotiation and relationship management skills. I believe these would be useful as a course representative when relaying the

concerns of the students to the academic staffs and departmental heads. 2) I displayed strong leadership potentials and communications skills when I was

tasked with the role of training four new interns. These I believe are key skills to possess for the role of a student representative.

I am confident and believe myself to be a strong leader and representative. I am also very empathetic.

Because I love meeting people and helping them to articulate themselves.1, Lecturers awareness of students understanding 2, The atmosphere for

students to help and learn from each other; 3,a way of teaching getting students involved

I was selected to be a Course Rep several times before and proved to be a right person for that.

I believe student should enjoy the right to communicate to teaching staff freely, and I am here to offer everyone chances to do that.

Quite naturally I want to improve our department for future year groups, just as they did for us. Considering the rather dramatic changes that have come about it

our course for those enrolled in year 1, I feel this is now especially important.Within the department itself I would like to push for more demonstrations in

lectures or labs, as this helps with understanding of complex problems. Working within the department on open days means I get to see all the current

demonstrations given to prospective students and as a third year, I find these help me better understand concepts I was first introduced to in first year. As a third year I have seen several problems come up within our degree both first

hand and through word of mouth. For older years where everything spanned at least a whole term we had time to sort out problems but considering the new workshops now in place for year 1 students I think there needs to be a way of

quickly flagging up problems so they can be resolved speedily. I would also like to see computer suites more clearly signposted as to when they are booked out. I know this was a problem for my year group during Steel Design and the ESLC

computer rooms. I would also like to look into the assignment of groups for group projects after the problems people encounter. I would like to see greater clarity on groups, since some lecturers allow you to pick your own and others don’t.I am a strong and reliable individual, who always tries to finish what she has

started. I feel these are especially important attributes for a School Rep, whose task it is to take forward concerns that have been raised to either themselves or course reps, onto LCF meetings and relevant university wide concerns to the SU

itself. As a third year I do understand I may become rather busy with work over the course of the year but I will always make time to hear and log suggestions or

concerns. This could either be face to face or over Google docs. I would keep the department well updated with progress and changes. Most of all, I hope to

improve your experiences while at university.

I am applying for the role as I want to be able to act as a spokesperson for my fellow students, in raising any issues they may have within regards to the

academic side of the course. I want to be able to communicate with the staff members effectively to bring about any necessary changes, that I and other

students feel need to be addressed to better our training as Midwifery students. Additionally I want to use this platform to be able to grow my leadership skills

and to gain experience in being an advocate.Obviously I have only just stared the course, therefore it is difficult to think of

changes that I think need to be made. The timetabling however I do think is an area that needs changing, To have a more stable timetable so that when in

theory, if the independent study days were on the same days each week then childcare for some students would be easier to organise. Secondly on days where we are given a two hour lunch break, I think it would be preferable for everyone to only have the one hour where we can then go home an hour earlier instead.

Thirdly I would like to see more copies of the books we require in the library as it has been difficult to get hold of many of the recommended books.

Page 11:   · Web view3) Once elected I would seek to provide a regular and an open feedback mechanism which allows the students to express any concern which may be held. All concerns and

Throughout my education I have always had roles such as being an academic committee member, student ambassador, student head representative and

student support member. In addition I have always been a key organiser and fundraiser in many charitable events both within my education and community.I should be elected because I am highly determined to help ensure that all the

Midwifery students have the best learning experience they can to increase their potential as confident midwives. I plan to listen to any concerns that any of the students might have throughout the year relating to any part of the course and then be able to speak out, so that the student voice is heard among the school.

Stacey Lee

I would like to become the school education rep for midwifery to ensure that we receive the best teaching possible, and to help ensure changes that students

want are put into practice wherever possible.I would like to improve the self-directed study packages to make them more

focussed, ensure that workshops based upon the self-directed studies are productive and helpful in contributing to our knowledge for assignments and to

attempt to have more prepartory group sessions scheduled around assignments. This summer I completed a four year degree here at the University of

Nottingham, within a different school, and feel this has given me a view into how other departments at the university organise and teach the course content. I

would like to bring some of the best points from other divisions into midwifery where possible.
