Gem challenge Use your pearl power today to recall the story of Macbeth so far. Remind yourself of the main characters and key events that has happened so far. If you can’t remember, go back and read the story on the year 5 wordpress blog.

Spelling Task

This task should take around 20-30 minutes

Today’s spelling words today are recognise, curiosity, mischievous, sacrifice, and aggressive.

Practise your handwriting and fluency and write these words 3 times each. Your task is to find the definition of each word. Then, you need to write each word in a sentence correctly but with relevance to Macbeth and what you know so far.

For example: Duncan was willing to sacrifice Banquo to get the crown and become king.

It will be helpful if you complete the reading for today first!Task 2

This task should take 30 minutes.

We’ve had a break from Macbeth so let’s familiarise yourself with the story so far.Begin by trying to remember 5 things that have happened up to the point we reached on Friday. (try and keep them in chronological order)Re-watch the animations (chapters 1 & 2) if you can.1.2.3.4.5.

Today we are going to begin by reading pages 30-35.

The pages are at the bottom of this document. Then watch the animation of this part of the story to aid your understanding.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks2-macbeth-ep3/z4mkxyc

How has our perception of Macbeth changed from the beginning of the story? How do you think he has changed? Try to answer this as if it was a 3 mark question (use APE: answer it, prove it, explain it – don’t forget to include a reference to the text)Answer these questions using full sentences. Here are some possible sentence starters:At the beginning of Macbeth, I thought the main character was _________ because_______________As the story progressed, Macbeth changed because ______________________Several incidents caused Macbeth’s character to change.

Spag taskThe task should take around 30 minutes.

Using dialogue in a sentence

There are many points in the book Macbeth where dialogue is used between characters. For example - “You should not have brought

the daggers here!” said Lady Macbeth. Watch this short clip to remind yourselves how speech marks are used in a sentence as this will be helpful for the task. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvftsbk

When we use dialogue, we need to consider a few things: Is it obvious what character is speaking? Is it exciting using ‘she said’ all the time? No. Sometimes we do not need to write who is saying it as it may be obvious.

For example: “You should not have brought the daggers here!” said Lady Macbeth. “Go back and put them in the guards’ hands, as we planned!”

Your task is to write a dialogue scene between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth – you can use the clip from the English task to help you with your ideas. Make sure you describe the actions of the characters in between to add more detail.

Try and alter the order that you place the character speaking – look at these two different ways:

“You need to kill King Duncan!” ordered Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth ordered, “You need to kill King Duncan!”

Maths task The task should take around 30 minutes.

Today we are going to move on to discussing the area of 2D shapes.

Area is the space inside a flat shape or the surface of an object. The area of a shape is the number of unit squares that cover the surface of a closed figure.

1.

Here is an example of how to find the area

Page 3: bpayearfive.files.wordpress.com  · Web view6/22/2020  · youtube page for videos! Keep working hard- it will pay off! Miss Harris and. Miss Ridgers . ... Area = (length x width)

We always include a small 2 in our answer as this means “squared”. We measure area by how many squares fit inside the shape. If you need further teaching on finding the area of 2D shapes, this video may help you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCdxURXMdFY

Now you will usually not be given the squares inside the shape to count. This is what an area question usually looks like:

Find the area of the rectangle

To solve this problem you need to multiply the length by the width. Area = (length x width) or A = (l x w)Therefore the area of this shape is 5 x 6 = 30m2

Find the perimeter of these shapes by multiplying the length by the width

Year 5 & 6 bubbles will be learning about World War 1 & 2 in school this week. If you have the time and the interest, please join in with our learning! Everything will be on the wordpress blog. https://bpayearfive.wordpress.com/world-at-war/
