Please choose activities from the list below; you do not have to get everything done. The main things to focus on are your reading, tables and some writing. Dear Diary, 25-3-20

Today was amazing. First we did some school work. I played Kahoot.

After that we went on a long walk. I took some pictures of signs of spring. I saw some lovely yellow daffodils.

When we got home we played Tip the can. It was fun.

Finally, we went inside to watch a movie. We got some popcorn as a treat. It was delicious.

I am really enjoying spending time with my family but I am missing all the boys and girls in school too.

1st Class – Maths

Weight – link to baking at home Heavy and Light Name 3 light/heavy animals. � Name 3 light/heavy types of fruit. � Name 3 light/heavy vegetables. � Name an animal which is lighter/much lighter than a dog. � Name an animal which is heavier/much heavier than a dog. � Name 2 heavy things in the kitchen � Name 2 light things in this kitchen Which is heavier a golf ball or a tennis ball? � Are heavy things always big? � Can you name an object that is small and heavy and an object that is big and light? � KILOGRAM Discuss examples of when we use weight in everyday life. For example: We buy meat, sugar, flour, rice, butter and breakfast cereals by weight.

We weigh a lot when baking. The farmer weighs feed for cattle, fertiliser for land. Farm animals are sold by weight. Farm animals are sold by weight. Builders buy sand, concrete by weight. Gardener buys compost, soil by weight.

Introduce the child to a KG – a bag of sugar or weigh out a kg of flour and put it in a sandwich bag.

Go on a hunt in the kitchen cupboards. Find things that weigh a kg and things that weigh less than a kg.

Make a poster – draw items and label them. See table below. Lighter than a KG Around a KG Heavier than a KG

Abair Liom C - www.folensonline.com – free access to parents – Register as teacher using code Prim20 for Roll Number.

Click library tab along the top and look for Abair Liom C. Using the filters choose the Theme éadaí and the Lesson éadaí scoile. The children will be familiar with this process and this website. Children can the play Pléasc an balún. They can click on the Póstaer and complete the various activites and poem and songs. After this revision they can go to the póstaer and see can they construct some sentences orally about the picture?

Art – Design an Easter wreath – open link below and print or draw your own eggs.

Design the eggs, colour them in brightly, practice cutting skills by cutting them out carefully, assembly them in a circular shape – a paper plate might help, finally hang your wreath up for all to admire.
