This link gives you the information for the content and if you scroll to the bottom of the page it tells you the planned subjects covered in the lessons for each day of the week. These may sometimes be a review, but this is important to do. It is very engaging for the children and it also includes movement and fun activities and challenges. You can pick and choose the content and either watch it when scheduled or in your own time on the I-Player.

Spelling Spelling test on previous list of words – tick off all the correctly spelled words in the reading record book. Any that need to be reviewed, have the children make their own personal list and continue to work on these words daily.Practise Year 3/4 Spelling words new list:supposesurprisethereforethough/althoughthought through variousweight woman/womenUse the ‘Spelling Menu’ activities to practise this list.

Grammar and Punctuation

Prepositions:1. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zh8nscwWork through the BBC Bitesize activities on the link to identify and use prepositions.Adaptation: If you cannot print off the worksheet for the missing word task then writ the answers on paper. Activity 3)Challenge:When you get to the activity for writing your own sentences, also include some conjunctions. (Activity 3)E.g. Writing Keep adding entries to your diary: This could be short daily entries, weekly summaries or just when important thoughts or events you want to write about are on your mind.

Writing an explanation text: Re-watch the clip with Chris Packham about the structural parts of an explanation text to remind yourself of the structure and features you need to include.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1-ks2-how-to-write-an-explanation/zh2kjhv

Did you brainstorm ideas for something that you could write an explanation about? If not do that now.A How-To Guide … What is your ‘How-To Guide’ about? Like Chris Packham you need to write how to use a gadget to do something. He wrote about how to photograph amazing animals using a digital camera – you could write about how to make the best toast using a toaster, or how to record the season of your favourite television program using the TV remote. (You can also use Chris’ idea too)

Now follow these steps to plan and write a first draft for your guide.- Write an interesting title using a question.- Introductory paragraph to state what the guide will do.- Create the sequence to explain how to operate or use your item. (use numbers

or bullet points)- Short simple sentences in the present tense using action verbs (Use bossy

imperative verbs)- Link your steps using conjunctions (First, next, then, after that, finally)- What diagrams or photos will you use to help with the explanation?- What technical language will you use? Explain them in a glossary.- Write a conclusion that summarises your guide – include a link for further

information if you can.

Use the writing checklist attached to the planning to help you remember the features as you continue with the writing process.

Guided Reading Presenters Dick and Dom explain why 'George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl is their favourite children's book.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1--ks2-georges-marvellous-medecine-by-roald-dahl/zry7pg8

George concocts a special medicine using all the ingredients available in his house, with some very unexpected results. Think about your own marvelous medicine:Who is it for? What will it do? What are the ingredients? How should it be taken?- Design a container (box or bottle) that you would use to market your medicine.- Design a label for the front that is decorative and includes the name and purpose

for the medicine.- On the back, include the ingredients, dosage, and how and when to administer

the medicine.- What could the side effects be? List them somewhere.

When making your designs make sure the front and back are full A4 size so that everything can be read.Challenge:If your medicine is a powder and can be stored in a box or tin make side panels with some of the information.

Reading Read for 20 minutes each day – retell the main points of the story to an adult. Fill in Reading Records.https://stories.audible.com/discoveryGo to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and listen for free.Get yourselves into the mindset for some Magic and Mayhem!!!

This link can be used for a lot of different audio books – Elementary or tween tabs would be most appropriate material.

English Challenges Using the KS2 English Challenges grids. Have your child choose which type of activity they would like to do and then tick the box for that activity. The challenge is to complete as many activities as they can before the end of term. This is to

encourage writing for pleasure and to give your child the opportunity to choose the activities that interest them the most. (If you are not sure of some of the terms, google them and you can find examples.

Maths Practise your target times-tables. (Y3: 2x, 3x, 4x ,5x ,8x ,10x)(Y4: all to 12x12) on TT Rock Stars and Daily 10 (Google ‘daily 10’)https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-buttonhttps://www.timestables.co.uk/

Supermovers: Combine times-tables practice with movement – it is a proven fact that using large motor skills and music can help with memorising anything, especially times-tables.https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/times-table-collection/z4vv6v4

Daily Maths Sessions: Year 3 – Multiplying and dividing a 2-digit by a 1-digit number.https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/Year 4 – Area and Perimeterhttps://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

Year 4 –Look at the Multiplication/Division lessons first and if you are confident once you have looked at the content the try the Year 4 work.

We are working a week behind the schedule so please remember to click on Summer Term Week 3 w/c 11th May.Friday: Try the math challenges – located here or on BBC Bitesize. From now onward, you will need to get the worksheets for each lesson from the School website as WR are no longer including them with the videos.

If your child needs extra help or a more visual/hands on review, have them look at this link:Multiplying a 2-digit by a 1-digit number.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su2AjrEWvkUThe link above show multiplication using grid method – The children have done this but we used place value mats but it is the same process.Dividing a 2-digit by a 1-digit number.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9X0Vqx9XncThe link above uses grouping to solve.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysjYJ1Idfb4The link above uses sharing and partitioning to solve.

Maths Challenges Use the Year 3-4 Maths challenges (Sent with planning on week 5) in the same way as we have been with the English challenge section. If you would like to do more practical activities that can involve your child and other members of the family then choose a fun task and have a go. The Maths Trail resources have been sent with the planning last week but need to be printed out, but do not worry if you are unable to do this as it is only one of the challenges that you can choose. Just as we want to encourage reading and writing for pleasure, we want your children to see and have fun with the maths that is around them every day.

PE Your children are used to having around 1 to 2 hours of curriculum P.E. per week on top of the physical exercise they get at break and lunchtime so it is important that they keep this up to ensure their bodies stay active and healthy.Any games or exercise that raise the heart rate – a little every day - will be beneficial for your child, both physically and mentally – “healthy body, healthy mind!”Below are some ideas for web-based activities but there is a lot to be said for going out in the garden for a kickabout, going for a run and/or throwing and catching too. Healthy competition can add fun to games, whether personal (trying to beat your own record) or trying to beat Mum/Dad/siblings etc. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovershttps://family.gonoodle.com/Just Dance on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5-3tkqR92QINQyCrVocb1Q/featuredJoe Wicks workoutshttps://youtu.be/mhHY8mOQ5eo

Reading GladiatorsThere is a blog set up for Reading Gladiators on Purple Mash. Click on the Sharing tab - Shared Blogs then the Gladiator Logo.

I am giving you another week to catch up with the reading and the activities.Domestic vs Wild:Malkin and Roux have very different backgrounds so will have different points of view. - Explore these similarities and differences in a venn-diagram. Label each shape

with the title of the character and make sure you leave enough area where the shapes intersect to include the similarities.

Malkin feels there is a barrier between them. He says, “But she is a Domestic. With a home and an Owner. And I am Wild. With nothing to offer her. Why would she leave her home for me?”How do you think Roux would respond to Malkin’s question?- Write a conversation between the two characters with Malkin asking Roux to

leave with him. How would he approach the subject? What would he say to persuade her? How would she respond and why? Would Malkin find a way to persuade her or would she go willingly? (Remember to accurately punctuate the speech).

OR- Write a short scene from a play that would include the conversation. Remember

to give stage directions for actions and tone of voice in brackets and set the scene description before the dialogue. (Remember that no speech marks are needed just identify who is speaking in the left margin)

Now pre-read chapters 19-32 for next week.
