1) Parents and community members will be full partners with educators in the education of GPISD students. Comprehensive Needs Assessment Narrative

Parent InvolvementData analysis regarding parent involvement also included a review of at risk student data and income designations. The conclusions of the Bush Campus Improvement Committee (CIC) was that current efforts need better documentation and feedback from participants for a more effectiveness analysis throughout the schoolyear.

Student achievement data and at risk data shows a need to continue programs with academic focus such as the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters, Ingles Sin Barreras and Parent Academic Nights should continue. Bush will also increase support for Parent Involvement Center (PIC) activities such as the District Health Fair.

Student AchievementAt-risk populations show concentrations in Limited English Proficiency, Reading Readiness and Retention rates. Reading and Math TAKS scores stand at recognized levels, but strategies are needed to maintain these scores at an exemplary level. Planning data shows over 79% of students in low economic designation. Assessments and teacher feedback show a need to continue a strong focus on math/science strategies and literacy/language acquisition to achieve exemplary status. Current enrollment figures show a growth of over 50 students. Group review

of previous tutoring and extended day/week programs shows a need for improved student identification, benchmarking and planning for Saturday School.

The CIC review supported the continuation of Content Strategists to supplement and enrich classroom instruction in core academic areas. Materials and programs selected for interventions and accelerated instruction must be carefully reviewed prior to purchase to ensure a clear connection to CIP strategies such as tutoring or supplemental classroom strategies.

Curriculum ImplementationBush CIC voiced support for the district’s strategy to improve adherence to CSCOPE core curriculum, particularly due to the clear connection to content and scope and sequence with the state assessments of student achievement (STAAR). The adherence must be documented in lesson plans and the records of service delivery of the Content Strategists.

Specialized curriculum to ensure compliance with citizenship training, anti-bullying and violence prevention are in place. Bush implements Capturing Kids Hearts, Rachel’s Challenge and Handprints on Hearts. Lesson plans and program records are in place to document these efforts.

Dropout PreventionThe CIC reviewed the current process for at risk student identification and PEIMS reporting. Bush is committed to participating in the district review of this process to ensure accurate reporting and immediate and effective interventions and support.

Bush at risk designations fall mainly in the academic categories of LEP, Reading Readiness and Retention rates. Dropout prevention efforts at the campus will focus strongly on these academic at risk areas. Bush does have data to support strengthening of student support, interventions and strategies to address the needs of students designated with one or more of the psycho-social designations. These efforts must be done in partnership with counselors and social workers.

Highly Qualified and Effective PersonnelBush educators will post 100% compliant attendance at all required district training. The campus based training plan is developed from analysis of student achievement, teacher feedback, Content Strategists input and particular instructional strategies noted in the CIP. The

Content Strategists work then provides technical assistance in the classroom, follow-up and support for both central and campus based training.

GPISD central staff ensure adherence to the federal regulations regarding highly qualified teachers. Certified teachers are properly placed into appropriate classroom settings. Required documentation and reports are submitted to TEA by central staff.

Instructional TechnologyThe CIC noted a need for a complete inventory of current instructional technology, both hardware and software. Content Strategists and the Instructional Technologist will then review usage and levels of effectives of current programs and materials. Identified needs of teachers for better utilization will be included in the campus based training plan, as necessary. A similar process will assess effectiveness of any proposed purchases and a review of necessary training and support for the teachers to effectively use the technology. All purchase orders for instructional technology will include the proper link to the CIP strategies that they will support, such as tutoring or supplemental instruction or interventions.

Safe and Secure EnvironmentThe CIC reviewed current discipline referral forms and data from the campus level. The team reviewed the DIP strategy to revise and improve the process and is ready to provide input to the central team. The CIC also noted the need for information to teachers regarding the connection of a discipline removal referral as to an automatic designation of at risk for the student.

To preserve and improve the teaching and learning environment at Bush, the team is dedicated to continued and improved implementation of Capturing Kids Hearts and Rachel’s Challenge to build relationship capacity and provide anti-bullying and violence prevention strategies.

Formative Evaluation Process

The Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) must be reviewed, at a minimum, twice per school year. The Campus Improvement Committee must convene utilizing a formal agenda and sign-in for documentation of the formative evaluation process. Minutes of the meeting must be complied and kept on file as an attachment to the CIP. The agenda must include the following:
