Chapter 8 Math Test Study Guide

These are the concepts that your child must know. They must be able to use these concepts/skills and apply them to word problems.

Students were already given the Ch. 8 “SBAC” Practice Test. These prepare us for SBAC testing in April/May, but they are much more rigorous than chapter tests.

Your child will be taking Illuminate tests which reflect SBAC type questions.

Skills that they must have mastered for this chapter:

*Equivalent Fractions: Recognizing and finding them

Example: 2/3 = ____4/6__________ 1/2 = ________3/6_________

*Factors and Multiples

Example: Is 51 a multiple of 3? _________ Is 4 a factor of 60? __________

*Prime and Composite Numbers

Prime numbers only have two factors: 1 and itself; Composite Numbers have more than 2 factors

0 and 1 are neither prime nor composite

*Simplest Form

Example 4/10 = 2/5 in simplest form

*How to compare and order fractions

Example: Which is larger, 5/8 or 9/11?

Put in order from smallest to largest: 3/5, 1/3, 2/9

*Mixed number and Improper Fractions

Examples: 2 ½ = 5/2

13/4 = 3 1/4

*Great practice/review pages: chapter review and videos/games/practice handouts on your My Math account.
