Literacy:Look a bit more closely at how some verbs change when you add -ed (see resources or look at this clearer version) Vowel sounds above refers to: a – as in cat, e as in bed, i as in pig, u as in cup and o as in log

First look at regular past tense verbs. Write walk, play, fetch and want on left of a page. Show how to add -ed.

Then write clap, skip, and hug. Show how to double the final consonant before adding -ed. This is because it has that short vowel sound before the consonant.

Do the same with live, like, hike, etc. What do we change if the word already ends with ‘e’?

Read the ‘rules’ together again. What happens if you add -ed to plan?

If your child is up for a challenge talk about how we can use the same ‘rules’ when adding -ing to words, e.g. liking, running. Remind them that spelling rules are useful even though they usually have exceptions! (E.g. smile – smiley!)

Start planning a recount about their day (or their week). It can be a particular day that they remember or a recount of what they do most days. Reread My Day - by Cow. Look at the differentiated resources -My Day in Pictures. Talk through how to do quick sketches for each part of their day. They could add some key words as reminders.

Look back at picture plan. Remind them about 3 things they have been learning about;

1. To use the past tense (I got up, I ate..., I brushed...)

2. To use words that link events in time (first, next, then, later etc.).

3. To use conjunctions to write longer sentences (see resources).

Use plan to write a recount.

Try this experiment:1. Get a white/light-coloured flowers (roses, daisies, sunflowers, or carnationl)2. Immediately cut 1 inch off of the stems at a 45 degree angle (getting rid of dried ends and

maximizing the amount of water sucked up)3. Add lukewarm water* to the vase with 5-10 drops of blue food colouring (If your flower is

white it could be a red or yellow or green dye.)4. Take pictures and just wait to see what happens over a few days.

ART/DESIGN/MUSIC:

Go into your garden take your pencils and some paper. Sketch what you see OR choose some wild flowers on a walk and paint or sketch them.

Use a bun case and decorate it / a straw or lolly stick for the stem, can you stick some real leaves on? How about pipe cleaners or wool for the roots. Can you label the parts?
