Warm greetings. We are pleased to inform you that Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has entrusted Kakatiya University, Warangal, A.P with hosting 29 th Inter-University Central Zone Youth Festival 2013 during November 18 – 22, 2013 to celebrate the central youth spirit.
We request you to send teams from your university to participate in various events of Youth Festival as per the conditions laid down by AIU which are enclosed. The festival commences on November 18, 2013 (Monday after lunch) and concludes on November 22, 2013 (Friday, after lunch). Accordingly, you are advised to make your Travel Plans.
For stay in Warangal, kindly send your acceptance in the enclosed “Team Registration Form” (Annexure - I and IV) positively by November 4, 2013. AIU has entrusted Kakatiya University Warangal, AP, with hosting the 29 th Inter-University Central Zone Youth Festival 2013, which is scheduled to be held during November 18 - 22, 2013 for five days.
About Warangal
The tri-cities of Warangal, Hanamkonda, Kazipet, together known as Warangal is the fourth largest city in Andhra Pradesh and the 32nd biggest city in India, with a population is 928,570. It is the second largest city in Telangana. It enjoys the unique distinction of being the capital of great family of rulers, known as the Kakatiyas, who estabilshed their sovereignty over vast areas of the Telugu speaking country between 1150 AD and 1323 AD. The benevolent Kakatiya rulers brought political stability, economic prosperity, linguistic and cultural unity, artistic splendour and literary efflorescence to the kingdom they built. The distinct term “Kakatiya” strikes an emotional chord in the hearts of the Telugu people. The artistic beauty of the temples with excellent sculpture of unique style, ever green wild life sanctuaries, and the glittering tanks with ripples are a feast to see to the eye. The amazing Thousand Pillar Temple, the Bhadrakali and the Padmakshi temples, the Warangal Fort, the dense forests of Eturunagaram and Pakhal, Laknavarm Lake and other destinations are the important tourist spots in and around Warangal.
‘Historic’, ‘pristine’, and ‘value-oriented’ are just a few terms associated with Warangal, and one has to be present here to truly experience the exotic atmosphere of this historic city. Turbulent yet modest, polite but dissenting, defiant yet sacrificing, vibrant and alluring, Warangal has a mystic charm attached to its culture. The city is a shining example of valued traditions. It is now globally famous as Cultural Heritage City and bagged the Award of Clean and Neat City. To the modern tourist, Warangal offers peerless excitement and excellent entertainment that includes Heritage, Nature, Wildlife, Cultural and Shopping sites and malls, making it one of the most memorable tourist destinations in South India.
The Warangal District has great intellectual legacy. The Kakatiya period was rightly called the brightest period of the Telugu history. The entire Telugu speaking area was under the kings who spoke Telugu and encouraged Telugu. Bammera Pothana, Palkurki Somanatha, Sivadevayya, Andhra Bhoja, Iswara Bhatta, Nrisimhakavi, Agasthya, Madhava Vidyaranya, Gangadevi and others adorned the Kakatiya Era and some of them formed the brain behind the foundation of the Vijayanagara Empire. In modern times, ‘Prajakavi’ Padmabhushan Kaloji and Dr K. Jayashankar, the ideologue of Telangana, are remembered with reverence.
The Warangal FortIt is one of the most famous Medieval Forts of Deccan. It was extended and improved during the rein of Ganapati Deva and Queen Rudramamba (1262-89 AD). The circular stone fortrication was surrounded by an outer mud fort with four main gates. A moat had also been dug all around the Fort to render the city impregnable. Swayambhu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva occupies the central part and it was marked by four ornake toranas renowned as the "Hamsatoranas" comparable to Sanchi Stupas.
The ruins strewn all over, however, bear eloquent testimony to their original beauty and sculptural grandeur. They are under the process of bringing back the past glory.

The Thousand-Pillar TempleThe Thousand-Pillar Temple, built by Rudra Deva, is the most important monument in Hanamkonda. Perched elegantly in the heart of the city, this temple is dedicated to Rudra, Vishnu and Surya. This temple was constructed by Rudra Mahadeva of the Kakatiya Dynasty in 1163 A.D. The highly ornate workmanship on the doorways of the garbhagruha, the artistry on the massive pillars and on the ceiling charms the devout and the tourist alike. The
celebrated Nandi, a massive monolithic masterpiece of granite, is the main attraction here. Kalyana Mandapam, part of the temple, is under renovation.
The Bhadrakali TempleSituated atop a hillock between Hanamkonda and Warangal, it is one of the oldest Devi temples in this part. It is famous for the stone image of Goddess Bhadrakali. Eight-armed, with a weapon in each hand, she is shown in an eye-catching posture, bestowing her benevolent blessings on all the devotees. Built in the days of the Chalukyas, the temple is situated on the bund of a big Bhadri Tank, panoramic amidst the bare boulders atop the
hill and the silent waters below.
The temple is believed to be built by the King Pulakesi II of Chalukya dynasty around 625 A.D to commemorate his victory over Vengi region of Andhra Desham. This can be observed from the square pillars used in the temple structure which were different from the circular pillars commonly used in temples constructed by Kakatiyas who adopted Goddess Bhadrakali as their "Kula Devatha" giving preference to Her to other Gods and Goddesses. The lake was built later by Ganapathi Deva, a minister in Kakatiya Dynasty. A road leading to the temple was also added during that period.Before the temple was renovated in 1950 there were animal sacrifices at the temple (an old custom practiced at Kali temples in India). This practice was banned from 1950 onwards after the renovation of the temple. During the renovation, Chandi Yantra was installed in the temple and Amrutha Beejaksharas (holy shlokas) were written on the deity's hanging tongue and modified the deity's fierce looking eyes and tongue to a benevolent face made in a 2.7x2.7 meters square stone facing West with Shiva under her feet. 'Sree Chakram' and 'Utsava Vigrahas' of Bhadrakali are placed in front of the main deity. Since then everyday poojas, Sharannavaratras, Vasantha navarathras are being conducted regularly as per the Vedic rites.
A statue of Lion, Bhadrakali's Vahana, on which she rides, is placed opposite the sanctum sanctorum. The temple also has a Dhwaja Sthambam and Balipeetham. Some of the oldest deities in the Maha Mantapam along with Bhadrakali are Uma Maheshwara images on stone in front of Shiva Linga, Subramanya Swamy statue, Hanuman statue and Navagrahas all carved in stone.

The temple has been expanded in the 2000s with the addition of Alaya Shikaram and Maha Mantapam. Recently Sri Vallabha Ganapathi temple and temple parikrama have been added to the main temple. The temple management is also running a Veda Pathasala (School for Learning Vedas) near the temple.
There are 8 major and 12 minor temples in the mountains surrounding the Bhadrakali Temple including Padmakshi Temple, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba, Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple and Sri Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Swamy Temple, the Nostradamus of India.

Batukamma Festival
The Festival is the biggest one in Telangana region for Hindu women who are dressed up in rich traditional pattu saris, and costly jewellery during celebrations. It is followed by Boddemma, which is a 7-day festival. This festival falls in September–October called Ashvin or Aswiyuja. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri. It starts on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya. It concludes two days before Dussera, called Durgashtami. On the final day, the closing ceremony is
celebrated on a grand scale as Pedda Bathukamma or Saddula Bathukamma. Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack, arranged with seasonal flowers, in seven concentric layers, of potter’s clay like a cone. Bathuku in Telugu means live / life, and Amma means mother; hence Bathukamma, is celebrated for the glory of Life-Goddess, later denoted as Goddess Maha Gauri – the patron Goddess of Womanhood.
The Ramappa TempleThe great temple of Palampet dedicated to Rudreswara in 1223 AD is said to be a happy synthesis of the best in Western Chalukyan, North Indian Hoysala and Dravidian styles of architecture. The famous Nagini is one of the twelve figures brackets with their haunting melodies. The Nandi mounted on a raised pedestal in the mantapa is unique in its exquisite polish that feels like velvet. The gopura of this
temple is built with unique bricks which float on water. Ramappa Lake, just one km away from the temple, is an ideal place for picnics and photography.

The Laknavaram LakeOne need no longer travel all the way to Rishikesh for the Lakshman Jhoola experience or the Golden Bridge in San Francisco, USA. Our very own Laknavaram in Warangal now has a spring suspension bridge where one can live the experience! The 160-metre-long suspension bridge is the first ever suspension bridge to be built in the state. Built on the hill-hemmed and scenic Laknavaram Lake, 70 kms from Warangal city, the bridge connects two of the seven tiny
lake islands. This is the only second suspension bridge in South India.
About Kakatiya University
The Kakatiya University is located in the historical town of Warangal in northern Telengana of Andhra Pradesh. Established in 1976, the university has a sprawling campus of nearly 650 acres. It is a home to nearly 2.25 lakh students including 112 foreign scholars from 11 countries pursuing their higher studies on its Campus and in Constituent, Affiliated Colleges and District Centers numbering around 502. The University has faculty and staff strength of nearly 800. The University’s strategic planning; teaching-and-learning policies and research direction have always emphasized respect for the concerns of the society and the need to address the issues that challenge it. As many as 15 Departments in 8 Faculties (Botany, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Economics, Telugu, Commerce & Business Management, Zoology, Public Administration and Human Resource Management, History and Tourism Management, Geology, Bio-technology, Microbiology, Physics and Mathematics) have SAP and DRS programs. It has 30 Major Research Projects by UGC in progress. UGC, DST, DBT, CSIR, ICHR, DRDO, AICTE, ICMR, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Volks Wagon Foundation, Germany, European Union are sponsoring 245 research and academic programs. It has collaborative research with the University of Bonn, Germany, University of Reading, UK, CENARGEN, Brazil, LMU, Munich, Verona University, Italy, CASD, China, Perth Western University, Australia, Mississippi State University, Central Michigan University, USA, Groningen University, the Netherlands, IBS, Shanghai, BRC, Hungary, Eritrea Institute of Technology, Asmara, besides Reddy Labs, IIT, Kharagpur, University of Hyderabad, etc. It has procured state of the art research equipment and made it available at Central Instrumentation Centre. In the last 5 years, 306 M. Phil degrees and 530 Ph.D degrees were awarded. About 100 books and 1450 research articles were published by the faculty in the last five years. 96 M. Phil and 1,200 Ph.D scholars are currently on rolls.
Medical Facility
The university has a Health Centre on the campus. It remains open between 8 am and 1 pm for general services and 24 hours for emergency services. Apart from this, there are 10 multi-specialty hospitals within the radius of 5-10 Kms.
Weather
Weather at Warangal during November will be pleasant, neither cold nor hot, but moderate. One can find greenery everywhere. Adequate clothing and light bedding with bed spreads are recommended.
How to reach Kakatiya University?
AirThe nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad, which is 150 kms away from Warangal.
RailWarangal / Kazipet is well connected by rail with all cities. Kazipet Junction is also known as the ‘Gateway to North India’. Kakatiya University is located about 7 Kms from Kazipet Railway Junction, 10 Kms from Warangal Railway Station.
RoadLuxury buses ply from Warangal to Bangalore, Madras, Hyderabad, Hubli, Bangalore, Mysore etc available from Warangal. Local buses and auto-rickshaws are available from Railway Stations. Autos charge Rs 60 from Kazipet and Rs 75 from Warangal. Apart from the public transport, visitors can avail themselves of Kakatiya University transport facility on November 18 and 22.

PARTICIPATION
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Universities of the Central Zone are invited for participation in the INTER-UNIVERSITY CENTRAL ZONE YOUTH FESTIVAL 2013. They are requested to send their entries as early as possible but not later than November 4, 2013.
IDENTITY CARD/ ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATES/ RESUME FORMS
1. The students must carry their identity cards issued by their respective University / College. The team managers should submit valid identity cards of the participants for verification at the time of registration.
2. The Eligibility Certificates signed by the Director / Dean / Principal of the institute / College and countersigned by the Dean of Students’ Welfare / Cultural Coordinator / Registrar is a must and should tally with the above documents.
3. The age of the participants should not be more than 25 years as on July 01, 2013.
CONTINGENT SIZE
The maximum size of the contingent will be not more than 40, including contingent in charge. [Extra members coming with the team will not be entitled. They have to make their own arrangements for the board and lodging.]
CONTINGENT LEADER / INCHARGE
A maximum two Contingent Leaders / In-charges will be allowed to accompany the team. It is advisable to have Lady Team Manager in case there are female participants. (But the total number of contingent should not exceed 40.)
REGISTRATION FEES
Registration Fees @ 300/- per person will be charged from the participants, accompanists and the officials of the team. The fees will be required to be sent to the Host University by October 26, 2012 positively and the DD drawn in Favor of REGISTRAR FUND ACCOUNT, KAKATIYA UNIVERSITY (052026910378), payable at STATE BANK OF HYDERABAD, KU Branch (IFSC Code: SBHY0020262).
CAUTION DEPOSIT
A sum of 1000/- refundable caution money has to be deposited at Kakatiya University by each team at the time of the registration. The cost of any loss / damage to the property will be deducted from the caution deposit.
8BOARD & LODGING
Board and lodging arrangement will be available for the participants. Hostel rooms will be provided to the participants. The temperature in the month of November will be pleasant. Participants are requested to bring light bedding, mosquito net, clothing, bed spreads etc.
Team managers will be housed in Hostels / Guest Rooms. Since there is limited accommodation in the Guest House, priority will be given to Judges, Invited Guests and AIU officials.
FOOD
Food shall be provided from November 18, 2013 (lunch) till the lunch time on November 22, 2013.
FLAGS & BANNERS
The team managers should bring two Flags, Posters / Banners of their respective University and deposit one flag at the time of registration and they should retain Banner, Poster and one flag for the Procession (Rally)
RULES & REGULATIONS
Any form of indecent behavior either from a student, accompanist or team on the University campus will lead to disciplinary action. This may lead to the team debarring from participation from the event / festival. The following are strictly prohibited:
Consumption of liquor / smoking Eve teasing Influencing the judges Going to the press against the University on any controversial issue Indecent behavior inside and outside the campus and venue.

ELIGIBILITY RULES
1. Only bonafide, full time student, who is enrolled for a degree or post graduate degree or diploma course which is of a minimum duration of one academic year and whose examination is conducted by the University subsequent to passing the 12th class examination, is eligible to participate in the festival.
1.1. Students of open Universities shall be considered to be bonafide students and shall be eligible to participate provided if they fulfill the above criteria. However students enrolled in correspondence course in Institute / Centers of Universities and casual students, external students and students pursuing bridge courses shall not be eligible to participate.
2. All students participating in the Inter University Youth Cultural Activities shall fulfill the following conditions:a) Not more than 7 years should have elapsed since the student passed the examination
qualifying him/her for first admission to a degree or diploma course of a University of college affiliated to a University.
b) Only students who are less than 25 years of age as on First July of the academic year 2013 in which activity is held can participate.
c) Students can participate for one year more than the normal length of the academic programmes which he / she is following.
3. A student who is employed on full time basis shall not be eligible to participate.
4. A student shall not be allowed to represent more than one University during a single academic year.
5. Provisional admission to a course of a University or college shall not make the student eligible to represent the University in the Inter University Youth Cultural Activities.
6. In case of a student migrating from one University to another his / her migration case will be considered eligible only after his / her admission in the new University is regularized and he / she is admitted as a bonafide student by the new University.
B. Explanation
1. For the purpose of computing years of eligibility one year will cover means the academic year in which the cultural activity is held irrespective of whether the students result is declared or not. It will normally be extended from June / July of one year to 12 calendar months to the next year.
2. The restriction of participation in Inter University Youth Cultural Activities to a period of one year more than the length / duration of academic course means that the students pursuing a three year degree programme ( i. e B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., etc.) can participate for four years, while a student pursuing four year programme ( i. e B.E., B.Tech. etc.) can participate for five years.

C. Disqualification for Violation of Eligibility Rules:
i) Any disqualification of a participant on ground of ineligibility will result in the automatic scratching of the contingent for that academic year. The contingent shall also be debarred from participating in the Youth Cultural activities to be held in the following years. ii) A participant qualified on the grounds of ineligibility shall not be permitted to participate in Inter University Youth Cultural Activities in the next year.
Strength of Contingent: Maximum 40 per University
Note: Accompanists would preferably be the students, who will be given participation certificates. However, outsiders may be allowed if suitable students are not available. At the most 8 outsider accompanists are allowed, who will be included in the contingent of 40. A student, who has participated in Solo events of the I U National Youth Festival for three years, would not be permitted to participate in the UNIFESTS.
Participating universities are strongly requested not to bring any extra person. No extra person shall be entertained at any cost.
Contingent In-charge: Participating University shall send a maximum of two persons as contingent In-charge, who will maintain a liaison with the Organizing Committee of the host University. Lady contingent leader is essential for girl participants. Officials will be included in the contingent of 40.
Identity Card:
Identity Cards with photographs signed by the appropriate authorities by the respective University should be carried by the participants. Temporary ID cards issued by the contingent in charges will not be considered.
University Flags & Trophies:
The contingent leader shall have to deposit his / her two University flags with the host University. Last year winners and runners shall bring the trophies with them.
Travelling Expenses:
The participating University will have to bear the travelling expenses. University, if it desires, may avail itself of Railway concession as festivals are a part of the National Integration Camp Scheme.
Board & Lodging:
Free board and lodging shall be provided to the participating teams during the Inter Zonal and National Youth Festivals. Participating teams from the Universities could be housed as guests in students’ hostels, utilizing existing student hostels.
11Food:
Food shall be provided from November 18, 2013 till the lunch time on November 22, 2013.
Clothing:
It is advised that sufficient warm bedding, blankets, woolen clothes, medicines and locks etc. should be brought by the contingent. The participants and officials are advised to get inoculated against cholera and typhoid. Participants are requested not to bring any valuable items like jewelry & other expensive items. Host university is not responsible for any loss of property.
Discipline:
1. If the behavior of any contingent is found contrary to the objectives of the festivals, the host University may take suitable action against members concerned and an individual / team be debarred from participation in the future youth festivals for three years under intimation to AIU.
2. As far as possible, students shall be involved in the organization and management of the festivals.
3. No official or any member University shall go to press on any controversial issue. The consumption of liquor, eve teasing, influencing the adjudicators, indecent behavior inside the campus and venue is strictly prohibited. Those violating this clause shall be liable to disciplinary action which may be to the extent of debarring the University Team concerned from participation in the Inter University Youth Activities for a period as may be determined by the AIU Cultural Committee.
Stamp Size Photos:
Two stamp photographs of each participant, accompanists and official delegates are required to be sent to the host University in advance.
Other Rules:
1. A Cultural Procession / March Past of participating universities shall be organized on inaugural day before the formal inaugural ceremony. Participating Teams are required to bring their flags / placards / banners / regional costumes for the event.
2. Participating Universities are informed that the use of fireworks / arms is strictly prohibited. However, if it is unavoidable for cultural performance, their imitation may be used with the prior permission of the organizing committee.

RULES & REGULATIONS
1. Music
(a) Classical Vocal Solo: (Hindustani / Karnatk)(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance: 10 minutes.(2) Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.(4) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatak style.(5) Cinema songs are not allowed.(6) Sufficient care and thought must be exercised in the choice of raga and composition.(7) Judgment is based on the qualities like tal, selection of raga, composition and overall impression.
(b) Classical Instrumental Solo (Percussion – Tal Vadya)(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance: 10 minutes.(2) Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.(4) Participants must bring their own instruments. (5) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatak style.(6) Judgment is based on the qualities like taal, selection of raga, composition and overall impression.
(c) Classical Instrumental Solo (Non- Percussion – Swar Vadya)(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance: 10 minutes.(2) Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.(4) Participants must bring their own instruments. Casio not allowed. (5) Instruments of western origin adapted to the India Raga system are allowed.(6) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatak style.(7) Judgment is on the qualities like swara, tal, selection of raga, composition and overall impression.
(d) Light Vocal (Indian)(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. (2) Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes.(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.(4) Duration of the song shall be between 4 and 6 minutes. (5) Only non-film songs / geet / ghazal / bhajan / shabad and abhangas can be presented. (6) Judgment is on the qualities like swara, taal, selection of raga, composition and overall impression.
(e) Western Vocal Solo:(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. (2) Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes.(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two. (4) Duration of the song shall be between 4 and 6 minutes. (5) Language of the song shall only be English. (6) Judgment is made on the qualities like rhythm, composition coordination and overall impression.
(f) Group Song (Indian):(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. (2) A team has to present two songs, one patriotic and another one a folk song.(3) Maximum 6 singers in a group and number of accompanists playing instruments shall be three.(4) The group songs should be taken from Indian songs which can be in a regional language. (5) No film song shall be presented as a group song.(6) Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes which does not include setting time of 4 minutes. (7) Judgment is on the basis of quality of singing only and not on make-up, costumes and actions of the team.

(g) Group Songs (Western):(1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. (2) Maximum 6 singers in a group and maximum number of accompanists playing instruments shall be three.(3) The group songs should be in English only. (4) Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes which does not include setting time for 5 minutes. (5) Judgment is on the basis of quality of singing only and not on make-up, costumes and actions of the team.
(h) Folk Orchestra:(1) Each university can send only one team.(2) The team shall contain up to 12 participants.(3) The group can consist of all boys or all girls or combined. (4) The duration of the performance is a minimum for 7 and a maximum for 10 minutes. (5) This does not include setting time which shall not be more than 5 minutes. (6) Up to three professional accompanists are allowed who should be in different dress from the student participants so that they could easily be identified. (7) The professional accompanists shall sit / stand separately from the participants and shall not lead the team.(8) The team may present preferably those folk tunes which are recognized as folk tunes of the state to which the university belongs.
2. DANCE
(a) Folk / Tribal Dance (1) Only one entry per Institution is allowed. (2) Maximum 10 participants allowed per team. The team may consist of all boys or all girls or a mixture of both. (3) The number of accompanists permissible is five. (4) The dance can be either a primitive or a folk dance (Indian Style) but not a classical one. (5) Duration of dance should not be more than 10 minutes. (6) Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of song if any, is to be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration. (7) The participating team is responsible for removal of their sets / properties etc., immediately after the completion of their performance. (8) Judgment is based on the basis of rhythm, formation, expression, costumes, make-up, sets on overall effect.(9) Time for sets / instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.
(b) Classical Dance (Indian) (1) Each Institute can send only one entry. (2) The classical dance can be from any of the approved schools of dance. Such as Kathak, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohinittam, Odissi, etc. (3) Participant are allowed up to 15 minutes including time for preparation. Maximum three accompanists are permissible. (4) Judgment is based on the qualities like tal, technique, rhythm, abhinaya or expression, costumes, footwork and overall impression.(5) Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in it, if any, and of the accompanying song, with its meaning in Hindi or English must be submitted at the time of registration.
3. LITERARY EVENTS:
(a) Quiz (1) Each Institute can send a team of three participants. (2) There will be a written preliminary round and teams will be selected for the final. (3) Finals will be oral with audio- visual questions. (4) The Specific rules regarding evaluation procedure, time to reply a particular answer and the type of round will be given before the actual start of the competition.

(b) Elocution: (1) Each Institute shall be represented by one speaker. (2) Medium of expression can be Hindi or English. (3) Each speaker is allowed to speak for a maximum five minutes in the Zonal Festival and 10 minutes in the National Festival.(4) Subject / Topic of Elocution will be announced in the Managers’ Meeting.(5) The performance will be judged in one language. (6) The item can be prose or poetry and not a song. (7) The sequence of speakers is decided by a draw of lots.
(c) Debate: (1) Each Institute will be represented by the two debators, one will speak FOR, while another will speak AGAINST the motion. (2) Medium of expression can be Hindi or English. (3) Topic of Debater is announced 24 hours in advance. (4) Each debater is allowed to speak for a maximum five minutes in the Zonal Festival and 10 minutes in the National Festival. (5) The competitor from each Institute will speak FOR and AGAINST the motion. Paper reading is not allowed.
4. THEATRE ARTS:
(a) One Act Play (1) Only one entry is accepted from each Institution. (2) The duration of the play should not exceed 30 minutes. (3) Time is counted as soon as the signal is given or the team starts giving introduction, whichever is earlier. Empty stage to empty stage is followed strictly. For stage setting and removal of set and properties, up to 10 minutes is given after taking charge of the stage. (4) The number of participants should not exceed nine and the maximum number of accompanists should not exceed three. The participating team shall bring their own set/ stage property, make up material etc. Light and general property such as ordinary furniture may be provided on advance information.(5) Participants may speak in Hindi, English or any regional language of India. In case, the language is a
regional one. The synopsis of the play with translation in, English or Hindi must be submitted to the Incharge of the competition on the day of registration.
(6) The participating team must report to the Incharge of the competition at least two hours before the presentation of the play.
(7) Judgment is most likely be based on the qualities of the play like theme, work on acting, stage craft, design and overall impression. (8) Decision of the panel of judges is final and binding upon all. (9) Accompanists will either speak from the background or will play upon musical instruments for background music. They shall not appear on the stage.
(b) Skit: (1) Only one team is allowed from each Institution. (2) Maximum number of six participants is allowed to participate in this item. (3) Maximum time allotted for each team is 10 minutes.(4) Use of make-up, drapery and background music is allowed. Personal remarks, aspersions,
character assassination etc. are strictly prohibited. (5) Participating team should submit three copies of the synopsis of the theme of Skit, along with
language of presentation (Hindi or English) on the day of registration. (6) The item is judged basically on the qualities like theme, work on acting, stage craft, design and overall impression. (7) Vulgarity or bitter insinuations in presentation should be avoided. Only innocent satire and healthy humour are expected.

(c) Mime: (1) Only one entry from each institution is entertained. (2) Maximum number of six participants is allowed to participate in this item. (3) Judgment is most likely based on the qualities like idea, creativity of presentation, use of make-up,
music and overall impression. (4) Duration of performance shall be a maximum of 5 minutes.
(d) Mimicry:(1) Each student artist is given 5 minutes both in the Zonal and Inter Zonal Festivals. (2) Participants may mimic sound of machines and speeches of well-known persons etc. including film personalities. (3) Only one entry is permitted.(4) Marking is based on (a) Skill imitating, (b) Variety of sound and voices, and (c) Overall Presentation. 5. FINE ARTS
(a) On the Spot Painting:(1) Each Institution is represented by one participant.(2) Item will be conducted on the spot and participants will be requested to do painting on the subject given by the Incharge(s) of the competition. (3) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. (4) Size of the painting will be half imperial size drawing paper i.e. 22 inches X 15 inches. (5) Painting can be done in oil, water, poster or pastel colours. (6) Candidate shall bring their own material like brushes, paints etc. Only the paper / sheet will be provided by the host institution. (b) Collage:(1) Each Institution is represented by one participant.(2) Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic / subject, (sheet size 15” X 22”).(3) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. (4) Participants shall bring their own scissors, pasting and other material required for the contest. (5) Collage has to be prepared from old magazines. The host university will provide the drawing paper.
(c) Poster Making: (1) Each Institution is represented by one participant.(2) Item will be conducted on the spot and the participants will be allowed to do poster making on the subject / topic / theme given by the In- charge of the competition.(3) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes.(4) Participants shall bring their own material. Only the drawing paper / sheet (22” x 15”) will be provided by the organizers.
(d) Clay Modeling: (1) Each Institute is represented by one participant.(2) Item will be conducted on the spot.(3) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. (4) Topics / size and other specific rules shall be announced on the spot.(5) Clay shall be provided by the host institution.
(e) Cartooning: (1) Each Institution is represented by one participant.(2) Item will be conducted on the spot on the given subject / idea.(3) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. (4) Participants shall bring their own material. Only the drawing paper (22” x 15”) will be provided by the host University.

(f) Rangoli:
(1) Each Institution is represented by one participant.(2) Duration will not be more than 2 hours and 30 minutes. Participants shall bring their own material. This art is known
differently in various regions such as Mandna, Alpana, Alekhan, Kolam, Rangoli, etc. For this, the medium and form or expression can be free hand, of pictorial and descriptive nature.
(3) Only one medium shall be used – Poster Colours or Flower Petals or Saw-dust or Pulses or Rice without pasting.
(4) The participants shall have to prepare a rangoli within the space provided by the organizers.
(g) Spot Photography:
(1) An Institution can send one participant(2) The participant has to bring his / her own digital camera of not more than 12 mega pixels(3) The digital camera should have a memory card which will be formatted by the judges before the commencement of
the contest(4) The time limit is two and a half hours.(5) The participant has to capture 5 photographs on the theme announced on the spot by the judges(6) No mixing, matching or morphing of photographs is permitted.(7) Software such as Photoshop etc. for enhancing images is not permitted.(8) The organizers will have all rights for the use of these pictures as and when they deem fit.(9) Digital images are evaluated on the basis of (a) Impact, (b) Composition, (c) Technical Quality, and (d) Suitability for the specific theme (10) The additional instructions will be announced on the spot.
6. Installation: (1) Only one entry is allowed with four participants from each Institution.(2) Duration will not be more than 2 hours(3) This item pertains to arrangement of unity in diversity of elements inspired by material arrangements for which particular space will be provided.(4) Item will be conducted on spot for which the topic will be mentioned.(5) Material /Products should be brought by participants themselves.
JUDGMENT AND APPEALS
The participants are advised to read carefully the rules and regulations for the various events, given in AIU Handbook of UNIFESTs. The decision of the judges appointed for different events shall be final. It is expected that their judgment will be respected. In case of any dissatisfaction, the matter may be referred to the Jury of Appeals. The protest, if any, should be lodged with the Convener of the Competition within one hour of the end of the competition. No protest shall be entertained on matters regarding judgment. Protests can be entertained on matters relating to violation of rules or improper conduct of the contest. There will be a protest fee of Rs.200/- only. This fee will not be refunded unless the protest has been upheld by the Jury of Appeals. No appeal shall lie against the decision of the Jury of Appeals.
