Founded by Sir Neville Marriner we are now led artistically by American, virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell. We invest significantly so that our unique interpretations of the classical repertoire can be experienced and enjoyed by as many people as possible. We aim to engage with a wide and diverse range of people of all ages and backgrounds through our live concerts, educational work and broadcasting partnerships. We have a turnover of more than £2.8 million a year and we need to raise in excess of £500,000 each Season from private sources in order to present over 100 concerts in the UK and around the world as well as to deliver our learning and participation programme of dynamic, inspiring and participatory music making projects. We do not receive core public funding from the government. As the Academy approaches the end of six decades of thrilling audiences we have launched Sound Future - a three year, £2.5 million fundraising campaign in order to ensure that the Academy will continue to flourish both artistically and financially well into the future. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Development department for an experienced and energetic fundraiser to join the existing team. This post will be responsible for working across all areas of fundraising, including Individuals, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations and Events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Individuals, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations Contribute to and assist with the implementation of the Academy’s fundraising strategy in

order to support the orchestra Promote and recruit new members for the Patrons and Friends circles and Corporate Club Create positive relationships with existing supporters ensuring they receive outstanding

stewardship and excellent customer care Maintain the highest renewal rate possible and encourage increased levels of giving Creating content for supporters’ newsletters, working closely with the Marketing Manager

Ensure appropriate supporters’ accreditation on website, print and other material; work closely with the Development Assistant and Marketing Manager to ensure a consistent and well-presented message on financial need and opportunities for support.

Develop support from Trusts and Foundations through prioritised targeting Write applications and reports for Trusts and Foundations in conjunction with the Director

Prospect research and cultivation To identify prospects across all strands of fundraising To respond to requests for information from potential supporters and lead or assist (as

appropriate) in the cultivation of prospective donors Work closely with the Board and Development Board to identify personal contacts and

involve them in the cultivation process To work closely with the Director of Development, assisting with the implementation of the

Academy’s strategy for international fundraising in the US and Germany

Events Manage the Academy’s annual series of fundraising events, including the annual Gala Set up and organising the inspiring events programme for Patrons, Friends and Corporate

supporters (including bespoke events) Work with the Director to plan and deliver annual high level trips for Patrons Co-ordinate and manage fundraising/ cultivation meetings and events including

international events Organise and attend development events and produce briefing notes Attend Academy London concerts and additional events as a representative of the orchestra,

working out of normal office hours as necessary

Finance and Administration Manage the Development Assistant Keep accurate records through the fundraising database Raiser’s Edge Maintain and update administration of donations to ensure that supporters are thanked and

acknowledged appropriately Keep accurate records of benefits and gift aid claims/donations, to ensure that each gift is

appropriately managed and recorded Coordinate and tailor mailings and other communications to supporters and prospects Liaising with the Secretary of the Academy’s American Friends including organising meetings

of the board, drafting letters (including requests for funds), providing information, research and administrative support, including acknowledgement of donations as necessary

Arrange concert tickets for the existing members and prospects Manage the production of promotional material to attract corporate support and ensure

opportunities are kept updated Manage and maintain income and expenditure budgets and forecasts, producing reports as

required

Other Responsibilities Keep up to date with practice in the field General assistance, where required, with the work of the Development team Build and maintain networks with development colleagues in the arts sector

Educated to degree level or equivalent. A minimum of one year’s development experience, preferably within an arts organisation First class written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with

a wide variety of people at all levels Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise, meticulous attention to detail

and the ability to work to tight deadlines Experience of using CRM databases, in particular Raiser’s Edge Be flexible, adaptable and enthusiastic Be results-oriented, with a positive, hands-on, can-do approach Have a strong work ethic; be able to work well in a team but with the capacity for setting

your own goals and achieving them independently Have an appreciation of and an enthusiasm for classical music Have an outgoing, approachable and above all professional manner in dealing with donors,

prospects and all parties
