We heard our Taoiseach make it official that we will not be returning to school before the summer. This is unfortunate as I am sure you miss seeing all your friends at school. However, our leader has to prioritise the health of the nation and not going back to school till after the summer is the best decision in that regard. As I have said before, do what you can in relation to support your child’s reading, we appreciate things may not be easy at home at this time. Here are some resources to help and support your child’s reading if you have the time. The best way to promote your child’s reading and understanding skills is to take part in reading together. This might be looking at a recipe together, whatever interests your child. Choose a book of interest, look at the front cover, ask your child what they think the book will be about. Hi everyone,

I hope you, your family and neighbourhood are keeping well and are in good spirits.

Do they think it will be a funny, sad, happy, informative or an adventure story? As you read through the book, look at the illustrations and engage with the text as much as possible. Would you like that to happen to you? How would you feel? What would you do? What do you think will happen next? Did you like the ending? How would you have liked the story the end?

Take care,

Ms Lynch

‘Camping Fun’ New Words

Well done on all your hard work with the words for the ‘The Wise Girl’ story. I have included the resources for the ‘The Wise Girl’ at the end of this document including the Kahoot! Quiz should you wish to check them out.

Below are some of the new words in your next story in your 2nd Class reader, ‘Camping Fun’. We will learn all these words over the next few weeks. I have also made a Kahoot! Quiz to help make the learning of these words more fun and engaging. It can also give you an idea of how well your child knows the words too and hopefully it will build up their confidence. It is live to play up to 9pm on Sunday 17th May. Also, find a wordsearch below that I created using these new words. Wordsearches are great fun and are a great way of helping to revise a word, keep saying each word as you search for them. Have fun!

If you are not able to play the Kahoot! Quiz you can make up your own quiz. Make simple sentences with a word missing. The word missing can be one of 4 words from the Wise Girl word bank. Ask your child to choose the correct missing word. Do this a few times making up different sentences and choosing from different words.
