What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Exciting news has come our way. In fact, news so exciting that I felt compelled to devote this particular newsletter to its exposition. As many of you already know I have a heart for evangelism. Steve Morrison, our Director or Research,

has this same evangelistic zeal. Although we’ve never had access to millions of dollars like so many of the current TBN and Pat Robertson related personalities on television have had, we nevertheless have persevered with the limited resources we do have. Despite these limited resources we have been able to reach untold tens of thousands of people over the years. The exciting news to which I refer links directly back to our evangelistic outreach. In my opinion, it is almost an evangelist’s dream come true to the glory of God. This great news relates to the very

age we find ourselves living in, the age of high speed technology. The twentieth century saw mankind in the “industrial age” but now, here in the twenty-first century, we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the highly technical and computerized “information age.” Global communications on all levels is now so advanced that it almost boggles the mind as to what can be accomplished now as opposed to just thirty years ago. Since 1985 we have been producing Christian television programming on a shoe string budget for local access public “exhort in sound doctrine and refute those who contradict” (Titus

THOUGHTS FROM THE DIRECTOR Well my dear readers you are getting a lot of information from me in this issue. Usually I like to feature a Christian writer, missionary, theologian, apologist, or some respected Christian to edify the saints but I just could not help myself this time. I am just plain excited about the numbers of people we can reach with this internet opportunity. To tell the truth, just a few months ago, I was rather depressed about the way things were going for the ministry, although I wasn’t as bad off as Elijah was in I Kings 19:4 or Jeremiah during his Lamentations. I was a little depressed because it seemed that no matter what I did (whether local cable access TV or nationwide newsletters) I just wasn’t

seeing much of anything happening. Even though our TV shows were all over the cable TV channel we hardly got any response like we used to (no phone calls, letters, or anything) and at the same time when I would send out thousands of newsletters, I was lucky if an average of 20 or fewer people responded (and many that did were prison inmates). In fact, the last newsletter that was sent out, Vol. 5, #4, generated less than 15 pieces of mail in response. Where is everybody? I guess I just wanted to see more fruit for the effort we put forth. I’ve come to realize over the years that the type of Biblical evangelism that we do here at Christian Answers is not very popular. We don’t use any of the Word-Faith gimmicks by promising miracles or big money, we don’t speak in tongues like Robert Tilton, we don’t offer any Benny Hinn “slain in the spirit” experiences, we don’t mention how Jesus just appeared to us in the bathroom the other day and told us that we were “anointed” and should lay hands on people so they will give us donations, we just don’t do any of the things that the wealthy TV preachers do. Heck, I can’t even sing well like Jimmy Swaggart. I just like to “Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine” (II Timothy 4:2). I’ll never change my ways when it comes to being true to God’s Word as unpopular as that approach may be. Financially we’re hurting because of it but that has never stopped us. The Lord has blessed me with a good job and recently I earned a real estate license to augment finances. Now we are blessed with this new internet opportunity. Paul did not have it easy in the Book of Acts but he preached the Word honestly. God bless you all.

Larry Wessels

The Gospel in Brief There is one, and only one, eternal, true, holy God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Matt 28:19). He created everything by His word. God has told us the truth about Himself in the word He has given us, the Bible, which He commands us to obey. God is compassionate and just to all. God is pure and Holy; sin is destroyed in His presence (Numbers 14:18). However, we have all sinned, falling short in the evil we do, and the good we fail to do. Yet our problem is not just what we do, but also who we are; we are selfish, corrupt, and estranged from God. Because God is just, He will punish sin impartially, yet God still bestows his love to all men. So our Savior, Jesus, the only begotten Son of God (the God-man, John 1:1,14), was graciously sent to suffer and die on the cross for our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness by the sacrifice of His body and blood. He was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and was physically raised from the dead and ascended into heaven. Jesus will physically return to judge the world. God commands everyone to repent and to believe in Him. God’s Spirit lives in each of us who believe in Him to guide us into truth, convict us of our sins, and to work in us to sanctify us to live a more holy life, pleasing our Lord. God’s children

WHAT IS CHRISTIAN ANSWERS ? Our ministry name is derived in part from Peter 3:15 which states, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (KJV). This is the goal of Christian Answers in an increasingly anti-Christian society here in America and throughout the world; giving answers and reasons why the Christian faith can be trusted and believed. The Biblical commands to “fight the good fight of faith” (I Tim. 6:12), to be “set for the defense of the gospel” (Phil. 1:17), to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3), to “be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict” (Titus 1:9), to “put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not” (Rev. 2:2), to “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” (Matt. 7:15), to “examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good” (I Thess. 5:21),” with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Tim. 2:25), to follow the example of Paul and Apollos who “vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was Christ.” (Acts 18:28). These are but a few of the marching orders for the call to ministry, discernment and evangelism. The inerrant Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17) whereby the gospel is preached, which is “the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” (Rom. 1:16), is the weapon of our evangelism. As Hebrews 4:12 states, ”For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow: it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” This is the evangelical missionary methodology of Christian Answers— to bring the Biblical perspective to a culture that is almost completely ignorant of it; to bring Christian truth, Christian answers to those who, as the prophet Isaiah said, have made “lies...and falsehood” their refuge (Isa. 28:15); to smash lies and falsehoods with the “hammer” of God’s word (Jer.

has given me to dwell on this planet. Although, through cable access television over the course of the last twenty-two years (not only in Austin but in other cities as well), I have been able to reach probably between 500,000 to one million people, I am still not satisfied. My goal is to reach a lot more people than that before I am done. Unfortunately, our ministry has never received large financial support on a regular basis. Rarely a brother or sister in the Lord will perhaps give $1000 or $500 but generally most days our Christian Answers mailbox remains empty or with more junk mail coming in than anything else. We deeply thank those few supporters who now and then give $5, $10, $20, or $50 to help our work, but this appreciated help is too few and far in between. Although we have no paid staff and virtually no overhead we still have barely enough financial support to run our normal operations, let alone to expand operations to reach a far greater audience. It disturbs me to see so many religious false prophets on regular or satellite television reaching more people in one day than I can reach in twenty years of cable access television simply because they have the money to pay for their air time. Our ministry has over 300 hours of biblical programming already produced for television but we simply do not have the funds to buy air time on regular or satellite TV like

Special Ministry sands of people over time through an alternate media outreach other than Austin’s local cable access television station. This new outreach opportunity for us, and this may come as no surprise to many of you, is the global internet. I am not talking about the three websites we already have on the internet (www.Biblequery.org, www.Muslimhope.com, and www.Historycart.com) but rather video postings on both Yahoo! Video and Google Video. I realize that this “exciting news” may be old hat in the sense that many organizations, businesses, and ministries have been posting their videos on Yahoo! Video and Google Video now for a long time (along with other internet video opportunities such as YouTube,Myspace,uncutvideo.aol.com,ifilm.com, wewin.com, cmri.tv, and others) but it is better to get in the game a little late than not at all.

The story on how we discovered this new and fascinating enterprise is rather interesting if not down right ironic. A few weeks ago I learned that our

As I discussed this new situation with my close friend and Christian Answers video man Dan Rosema, Dan suddenly came up with an idea, but did not know if it would work. We quickly concluded our telephone conversation so Dan could check into the possibilities for his idea. Shortly thereafter, Dan phoned me back and said that we could put our Christian Answers television shows on the internet at no charge! Wow! Here I was getting upset that after 22 years of public access television production our long running series was coming to an end because of some new rule. Then at the next moment Dan is telling me that we can start putting our television shows on the global internet for free with an opportunity to be seen by people all over the world. Talk about a quick change in circumstances. I went from frustration to elation in a split second. Here it looked like we were going to lose our free public access television outreach in Austin, Texas only to be told that we can now have free access with our television shows on the internet to a global community. I had been complaining for well over a year about getting our televisions shows on the internet but neither Dan or myself knew how to do it. Back in the Spring of 2006 Dan had set up at least 25 television shows technically for the internet to be posted on our websites, particularly Muslimhope.com, but Steve Morrison (our webmaster) was unable to get them to work. Other folks

as what is known as “floaters,” which are programs that air on television at random times with no regular schedule. This poses no problem at all since the programming department at the cable company has liked our videos in the past and has played more of our shows as “floaters” than as normal series programs. In fact, over the years the access programming department did not want me to pick up old shows and replace them with new ones. Rather they would take old shows from my series slot and move them over to be

repeatedly played as “floaters” while new shows submitted would be played in the series slot. Over the past 6 or 7 years the programming department held on to close to 80 hours of our shows which were repeatedly played at

4tacted Steve to send back the rest of the internet videos we had sent him the year before. Steve did so and these videos as well were immediately uploaded, accepted and posted. Suddenly we had over 20 hours of our shows available for viewing on the internet. I could not have been happier. It was like a dream come true-global evangelism made easy. This was only the beginning though. Since the video upload by Yahoo! Video and Google Video is free of charge I now determined to try to upload all of our Christian

Answers videos that we have produced over the last 22 years (approximately 300 hrs of programming). One thing I have tried to do over the years with our videos is to attempt to make them timeless, in other words, we try not to mention current events, the name of the

before on cable access when in fact the program they saw on TV was actually (in many cases) filmed 10 or 15 years ago. Of course, I admit, I’m getting older and I definitely look a little different now than I did 20 years ago, but it still makes me feel good when people cannot tell the difference. At this point, my dear readers, I come to the exciting challenge that is before us. As I have said, the internet access is free of charge to post our videos, however, there is a catch involved. The catch, and may I add a very worthy catch, is that

while the internet is free for our usage it still takes the work of our professional video man Dan Rosema to make it happen technically. Without Dan’s hard work none of this internet outreach is possible. Dan’s real life profession is

Dan charged Christian Answers $25 per one hour show to do the technical set-up. Dan must put time and effort into doing this procedure. The same cost applies now for the posting of additional programs on the internet. Looking at the current situation in this light then means that we still desire to load close to 300 hours of programming on the internet but at the same time it must be kept in mind that each hour will cost the ministry $25 for technical set-up. Let’s see 300 x $25 $7500. This is a very small price to pay to load our shows into cyberspace where they will remain for years and be seen by untold multitudes as the 21st century marches on and the internet becomes a bigger and bigger factor in people’s everyday lives. Just as CDs took the place of the old LP records and DVDs took the place of the old VHS videotapes, the internet will most likely storm into an ever increasing power media position as the years move into the future. Population projections from the surveys of the Pew Internet & American Life Project show that about 140 million adults (18 and older) are online and about 25 million youths (12-17) use the internet in the United States. Nielsen/Netratings estimates there are 210 million internet users in the U.S. www.nielsennetratings.com. China has over 137 million estimated internet users, ranking them second only to

the passing students. Other religious groups would have their tables set up on campus to hand out their literature and invite people to their meetings and seminars. I remember how the Gideons would hand out bibles at the start of every semester on campus only to have the majority of bibles rejected or taken and then thrown away into trash cans or in the street gutters (in fact, even to this day I try to go to campus on the first day of the semester to pick up all the discarded bibles laying everywhere and salvage them for evangelism purposes). I mention all this just to show that many of these unbelieving students will turn their backs on campus preachers, go home and turn on their computers, only to find an internet preacher like me there waiting for them (I see the humor of God in this). Most people are like the students at the university, they will not stay and listen to someone preach but they will go home and turn on their TVs or computers and let someone preach to them there (whether it is Oprah Winfrey or someone else).

Campus evangelism at the University of Texas with Larry

Wessels, Dale Delony and

or more people just in the U.S. might possibly see them let alone the rest of the world. Each video posted on the internet becomes like a cyberspace street preacher speaking to anyone who happens by. Each day more and more people become exposed to these videos which simply sit there year in and year out. In fact the more videos that can be posted means an increased probability that more people will “happen by,” thus fulfilling II Corinthians 2:15-17,“For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ in them that perish: To the one we are the savor of death unto death; and to the other the savor of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.” I love doing the work of the Lord because I love Him and His glorious Word. I know that I myself am nothing, it is “God that giveth the increase” (I Corinthians 3:5-7). I rejoice in the opportunity that God has given me in ministry over the years. I gladly do whatever I can for the Lord without receiving pay or a salary. Life is too short to short change God in what we can do for Him in our lives. Surely there are others out there that feel the same way I do. Can you see the opportunity we have here to reach out to a global community even though each one of us does not have that much materially in

Now is a good time for me to mention my educational and theological background for consideration among those of you who would like to share financially in this internet evangelism effort. I graduated from Spring Woods High School in Houston, Texas in 1975 as a member of the National Honor Society. I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising. I was born again in the Spirit that same year (John 3:3-8) and began attending Dayspring Fellowship late in 1981. My continuing theological education, beside that attained at church, followed with intense study under Dr. Walter Martin of the Christian Research Institute from 1981-89 (until Dr. Martin’s death). Likewise I have similarly studied under Dr. R.C. Sproul of Ligioner Ministries from 1982 to the present. Bob L. Ross, director of Pilgrim Publications in Pasadena, TX, the world’s leading publisher of the works of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, has also made a major impact in my theological training from 1982 to the present. Although I did not begin producing TV shows with Bob Ross until 1990, I was already studying Bob’s published works of C.H. Spurgeon long before that. Other theological training involves an extension course from Regent College located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where Dayspring Fellowship served as a satellite campus in 1985. Regent College is an international graduate school of Christian studies (www.regent-college.edu). I studied under Dr. J. I. Packer. I also took New Testament Greek from Dr. Sam Reed, Ph.D. in Biblical languages at the University of Texas at Austin (he appears in our “Evaluating the New World Translation” video, DVD-62) in 1987. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the

, our ministry has never had very good regular financial support, so I have worked (Acts 18:3) from Monday through Saturday from 10:00pm to generally 8:30 am. For twelve years of that time, I would film Christian Answers television shows on the first Saturday of each month, all day, at the Austin Cablevision Studios after being up all night at my job. Praise the Lord I’ve never required a lot of sleep! Family responsibilities come with the Christian life. I married my beautiful wife Diane Ybarra in 1980 who I met at the University of Texas and in the years to come we were blessed with four children and then three grandchildren.

Steve MorrisonB.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in

chemical engineering. 4 years in InterVarsity Christian

Fellowship as an undergraduate student, Christian apologist for

decades.

My wife and I are currently members of a Bible church. However, I grew up in liberal Christian churches where they in general did not believe Christ died for your sins. I never bought into that though; even when I was in third grade I felt there was something fishy there. Anyway, I had a 4th grade Sunday school teacher who encouraged us to read the Bible on our own, which I did. When I was in 7th grade my father took me to a Billy Graham Concert, where I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. My parents later said they regretted taking me there however. I was a baseball pitcher through high school and did

in the unusual position of being very good in sharing apologetics, that is, why Christianity is true, but I was not too good at articulating exactly how to become a Christian. I got involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, which filled in a lot of holes in my thinking. I always seemed to stumble into people in cults though, whether they were Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Scientologists, or Moonies. When I was an undergraduate I wrote my first tract on Moonies. It took me months to write, and while it had some shortcomings in style, I still use it today. When I graduated, with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, I knew I had a summer where I did not have to start working yet, so I wanted to go to Mainland China to better learn the language and lead people to Christ (I took two years of Mandarin in school). But as I continually prayed about it, I did not have the peace that that was what God wanted me to do. Instead, I went to Salt Lake City as a Christian missionary to Mormons. The group I was with was interesting, because about half of the people in the group were ex-Mormons. Later I worked as a chemical engineer, and went back to school and got my Ph.D. in that. I have 2 patents related to data analysis and neural networks. Since then I have been active in apologetics, and finally put the material on a web site,

Jude 3, Hebrews 10:38-39, Philippians 1:7,17). Be part of something that affects other people’s lives. Remember what God says in Ezekiel 33:8-9: “When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but

his blood I will require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” To those of you who understand God’s truth, you know how important this is. Larry Wessels earned his real estate license during the summer of this year and is now an authentic real estate agent and an apartment locator. Larry, while still holding on to his secular night shift job of the last 22 years, will also work real estate transactions during the day (when not doing ministry activities). This new situation will augment both family and ministry finances. Larry’s very first real estate related action was to locate an apartment for a Christian couple who needed to move within the week. The new apartment location was successful and the couple was very happy. Providentially, this new enterprise had a direct bearing on the internet opportunity that Christian Answers is now experiencing. Once Larry began to take initial realty classes, it became very obvious that if he was going to make it as an agent and apartment locator, he would need to become familiar with and use the internet. Larry had intentionally avoided internet use up until his summer classes taught him otherwise. Finally in July Larry got his own e-mail address and began to join the 21st century. Once on the internet, he began to see a whole new world of potential for ministry. The rest is history (in the making).

MINISTRY NOTE: Isn’t it interesting to see what a couple of college guys (married with 4 kids each, having full time secular jobs) can do with a little help from God.

L ETTERS FROM THE Christian Answers, I want to thank you for your “Christian Answers” mailer. It is topical, concise and easy to understand and apply. I have some past issues on Mormonism J.W.s, Church of Christ, and Oneness Pentecostals. I recently got some on Atheism and Islam. Do you have any on the “New Christianity, Word of Faith Movement, or Positive Thinking Mind Science, or Prosperity Theology? I think the deception from “among our own” is greater than those of the obvious cult or occult world. Christianity is running headlong into a false hope of heaven led by the ecumenical evangelical, modernist movement. I really look forward to your mailers. I loan them out and sometimes I don’t get them back. I need for you to restock my inventory of biblical ammunition. Please send me your past issues along with an inventory of other products you offer. Do you sell cassettes or CDs? If so please send a list of these as well. Thank you.

TRUTH is so important. Don’t get discouraged, keep up the “good fight” brother and finish the race He has given you. I love and miss you. Your brother in the Lord.

Dear Brethren, Enclosed are 100 dollars-Australian for the ministry. Please confirm. Yours in Christ.

Christian Greetings, I am so grateful for the CD you sent to me through brother Steve Morrison. I have read and listened to the message on it and I am so much impressed for the well organized messages which are educative. In the college we studied about comparative religions but the subject was too shallow, I thank you for the intensive research you made about different cults. I am living in an area which is dominated with the Muslims; this tool will help me a lot to reach them with the facts of their religion which have been lacking. I am ministering in a rural area where you can

much appreciative to get them, this is the best way of reaching the Muslim community and other cultic sects. I have been challenged with the messages on this CD and I am charged to spread the Gospel more than ever before. God will give me wisdom and a better approach to reach these groups. I need your prayers; many of our people here in Africa are still ignorant of these cultic sects and they have swept many to their influence. Another problem is that many of our people are computer and internet illiterate so it becomes too hard to disseminate information to them because when you make reference to a website where they can get information they cannot access
