Your task is to write a letter from Little Red Riding Hood to the Pest Control team trying to persuade them to get rid of all of the wolves in the forest. Your child can either independently read and answer questions or you can read it with them and then discuss the answers. 4. I am a Scientist - Electricity. Last week you looked at some different pictures and managed to spot lots of different electrical hazards. Year 4 Home Learning - Week 14

Dear Year 4,

We hope you are keeping yourselves well and safe.

Keep going with all your times-table and maths work on Hit the Button, TT Rockstars and Mathsbot.

Parents, you can go to bbcbitesize.co.uk to access a variety of free resources to help with home schooling and onto themathsfactor.com for more free maths resources. You can also access all of the spelling bee words on the school website. Well done for all your hard work, we are very proud of you!

Parents/carers – we have now included an answer section. There is also a PSHE activity sheet included. This week the topic is empathy.

Take care, from Mrs Westlake-Webb, Miss Morris, Miss Cormack, Mrs Gregory, Mrs Porter and Mrs Harrison 😊

1. I am an Author (SPaG).

A preposition is a word that tells us where or when something is in relation to something else. If you can, take a look at the following two videos to help remind you what a preposition is and how it is used (There is also a quiz you can have a go at on the BBC bitesize link):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niPyVnC6W5g

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zw38srd

Next, have a go at the preposition sheets below.

2. I am an Author (Writing) – Persuasive writing.

Read the example of a persuasive letter from B. B. Wolf.

Next, use the checklist to find the features within the letter. Think about what things B. B. Wolf has said and how he has said them in order to persuade Pest Control to get rid of the little girls from the forest. Your task is to write a letter from Little Red Riding Hood to the Pest Control team trying to persuade them to get rid of all of the wolves in the forest. Watch the video below to remind you of the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDMWJCrDVMI

3. I am an Author (Reading).

Read the sheets below on ‘Friendly Felines’ and ‘An Extract from Howard Carter’s Diary’ then answer the questions. (Answers can be found on the sheet below). Your child can either independently read and answer questions or you can read it with them and then discuss the answers.

4. I am a Scientist - Electricity.

Last week you looked at some different pictures and managed to spot lots of different electrical hazards. This week create an information poster to show different electrical hazards, why they are dangerous and how to avoid them. Take a look at the interactive house on the following website link for more ideas: http://www.switchedonkids.org.uk/electrical-safety-in-your-home

5. I am a Mathematician – Money.

Ask your grown-up to show you any coins they have in their purse or take a look at the photos of money on the sheet below. Talk through how much each of the coins/notes is worth, what you might be able to buy with it and different ways that you can make the same amounts (e.g. five 1p coins or two 2p coins and one 1p coin is the same as 5p). If you can, watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs8F_g3MGtM&feature=youtu.be

Next check that you can identify all of the different coins using the ‘Coin Recognition’ work sheet below. Then, once you are feeling confident, have a go at the ‘How much money is in my jar?’ sheet. (Using your column addition skills may help with this second task!)

6. I am an Engineer.

Some of you may have heard that John Lewis has launched a competition where children can design a bear to help to raise money for the NHS. Your job this week is to either design your own bear which could help to raise money for the NHS or design another item that could help to keep people safe. It could be a special timer to help people to ensure they wash their hands for long enough, a brightly coloured facemask for a Doctor or Nurse to wear or a special outfit that bleeps if the person wearing it goes too close to another person. All of the Year 4 teachers are really interested to see what you can come up with!
