Auto Injury Recovery with Whiplash and Headaches

It is all most inevitable to experience a car crash first hand; it could be as simple as a fender bender or traumatic as driving off the road. It is no coincident you have left the accident unshaved, this is because most of the time you haven’t. The pains and side effects from the accident doesn’t show up until the following day.

Whiplash is a term describing a range of injuries to the neck caused by or related to a sudden distortion of the neck associated with extension. Whiplash is commonly associated with motor vehicle accidents, usually when the vehicle has been hit in the rear; however, the injury can be sustained in many other ways. Symptoms reported by sufferers include: pain and aching to the neck and back, referred pain to the shoulders, sensory disturbance (such as pins and needles) to the arms and legs, and headaches. Symptoms can appear directly after the injury, but often are not felt until days afterwards.

The experienced treatment at our physiotherapy centre is guaranteed to give fast results. The reduction of headaches and arm pain that is sometimes presented as a symptom is also treated. Comprehensive plan covers jaw treatment and feelings of dizziness. We help to put your mind a ease and keep you relaxed.

There is no need for legal advice our physiotherapy centre has individuals who will take care of your insurance claims forms and submit them to the insurance agents. For a full recovery we help you from start to finish and the process will be explained by one of our professionals It is statistically proven in studies that 90% of persons who suffer from whiplash makes a full recovery in a few weeks with the help of physiotherapy and we have a success rate that is among the best.

The need for cervical collar and bed rest treatment has become a thing of the past thanks to our treatments. With the aid of gradually gentle exercise and early progressive movement increases a full and fast recovery.

Chronic Arthritic & Pains

Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints. Manual therapy techniques can be used to treat such pains and they are offered at our physiotherapy centre.

The Repetition of the same tasks on a daily basis forces us to over use our muscles. Being unfit is more of a contributing factor than being ill. Soft tissues are more easily healed as proven in research, so there is no longer a reason to be in bed. Exercise is encouraged because that our approach at our physiotherapy centre because better results are achieved through this process. Not all exercise fits all cases our professionals will help you find what exercise will best suit you and give you the best results.

Pain and injury occurs when our bodies are unable to carry out the tasks demanded of them.

Doing exercises demonstrated by our professionals will help you better control your pain.

An all purpose exercise that helps to reduce every ones pain does not exist. Our physiotherapists will give you precise instructions and demonstrations on how to do stretching, strengthening and mobilizing exercise and will do a progress report.

Spinal and Postural Problems  The cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions are three natural curves in the spinal column. The spine is held upright to counter the effect of gravity by deep spinal muscles parallel to the spine. Standing and sitting upright to maintain a good posture doesn’t happen naturally on at rare time we are reminded to keep a good posture.

The erector spinae muscles support your spinal column, promote ease of mobility and encourage correct posture. Most of us tend to think of our ab muscles when we think about strengthening our core. However, your core also refers to your back. At our physiotherapy centre we have spine strengthening exercises. As important as it is to have strong ab muscles to prevent lower back injuries, it is equally important to have strong erector spinae muscles for anatomical balance and prevention of diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis.

Spinal alignment takes special exercises that will be demonstrated you for your personal benefit. The BONEFIT exercise is offered at our physiotherapy centre to strengthen spinal alignment and stretch tight muscles. Exercises done at home with simple workout equipment can be surprisingly beneficial. A persons self esteem and outwards appearance are sometimes taken for granted. This should not be so because it says a great deal about the individual. At our physiotherapy centre we will get you on the right to good posture.

Sprains, Strains & Sports Injuries  Similar symptoms are shown in sprain or strain so they are often mistaken with each other. This is mainly because both are considered soft tissue of the musculo-skeletal. Our Professional Physiotherapists first step is to help you differentiate whether you have a sprain or strain so they can decide how to best treat it. Putting a lot of effort into tasks can strain our muscles and playing sports can sprain them.

Given the fact that ligaments are strong and resilient but can be torn when pulled to their limits. Muscle fibers can also be torn when overexerted or stretched despite the fact that they are pliable like elastics and resilient. Sprains and strains are referred to as level 1, level 2 or level 3 injury depending on the severity of the injury.

It is hard to tell the difference in a sprain or strain and the pain, swelling and bruising makes it even more difficult to differentiate. The injury could occur while playing sports in this case there could be multiple injuries it could be both sprain and strain. Therapy sessions might overlap considerably to treat both.

During soft tissue injuries the main aim is to be fully functioning as soon as possible. RICE formula can be used and is recommended to treat acute injury; RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate. You can be back usual activities in no time if diagnosis and treatment is requested from a physiotherapist.

AcupunctureAcupuncture for Pain Management and Chronic Aches and Pains

Acupun

Athletic injuries: acute ankle sprains, knee sprains Repetitive strains (RSI): tennis elbow, golfers elbow, and rotator cuff strain Pain control: headaches, migraine, sciatica, TMJ, and neuralgia Post surgical: arthroscopy, menesectomy, joint reconstructions Chronic Orthopedic conditions: arthritis, bursitis, frozen shoulder, and chronic back pain

Acupuncture is a collection of procedures which involves the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques, such as penetrating the skin with needles that are then manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation. It is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is among the oldest healing practices in the world. According to the traditional Chinese medicine approach, stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians. Scientific investigation has not found any histological or physiological correlates for traditional Chinese concepts such as qi, meridians and acupuncture points, and some contemporary practitioners needle the body foregoing the traditional Chinese approach.

Current research suggests that traditional forms of acupuncture are more effective than placebos in the relief of certain types of pain and post-operative nausea. Recent systematic reviews found that acupuncture also seems to be a promising treatment option for anxiety, sleep disturbances, and depression, but that further research is needed in these regards. Although minimally invasive, the puncturing of the skin with acupuncture needles poses problems when designing trials that adequately controls for placebo effects. A number of studies comparing traditional acupuncture to sham procedures found that both sham and traditional acupuncture were superior to usual care but were themselves equivalent; findings apparently at odds with traditional Chinese theories regarding acupuncture point specificity.

Non-Surgical Treatment of Herniated Disc and Low Back Pain The most common complaints our physiotherapists receive is about low back pain. After being tested by an MRI patients have been told that their symptoms are from having bulging or herniated disc. Some of these symptoms can be acute pain such as a mild intermittent ache or a chronic pain such as a stabbing or burning pain. Numbness and tingling down the leg or (sciatica) down the back of the leg can also be some symptoms.

Surgery might be a necessity for some treatments but our physiotherapies have an alternative approach. Problems with the back are treated by our physiotherapists whether they were causes by a motor vehicle accident, injury from lifting or repetitive strains. A treatment procedure is set out for you whether the pain is sever or mild with sciatica or disc herniation.

A comprehensive spinal assessment will be conducted by a physiotherapist to determine the cause of the lower back pain in the patient. Many components are included both subjective and objective, from neurological signs to range of motions.

For home activities on a daily basis a precise exercise procedure is given to the individual and also a list of thing to do and not to do. Pain relieving modalities, hands on mobilizations and manual therapy are covered by an individual comprehensive program. ‘Treat Your Own Back’ this book is mostly recommended for a good guide to a healthier back.

Some “all purpose” back exercises are not recommended because not every ones injuries are the same and as so are treated with different and more personalized exercises.

Total Knee Replacement TKR Torn Meniscus and Knee Arthroscopy ACL Knee injury and Reconstruction Total Hip Replacement THR

In sports and orthopedics, a tear of a meniscus is a rupturing of one or more of the fibrocartilage strips in the knee called menisci. When doctors and patients refer to "torn cartilage" in the knee, they actually may be referring to an injury to a meniscus at the top of one of the tibiae. Menisci can be torn during innocuous activities such as walking or squatting. They can also be torn by traumatic force encountered in sports or other forms of physical exertion. The traumatic action is most often a twisting movement at the knee while the leg is bent. In older adults, the meniscus can be damaged following prolonged 'wear and tear' called a degenerative tear.. If there is only a partial tear and knee stability is intact, then conservative treatment with physiotherapy and knee bracing is advocated.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL reconstruction) is a surgical tissue graft replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament, located in the knee, to restore its function after anterior cruciate ligament injury. The torn ligament is removed from the knee before the graft is inserted through a hole created by a single hole punch. The surgery is performed by arthroscopically.

While at the hospital after the surgery the hospital staff will be sure to check up on your vitals for a sure recovery. Physiotherapists in the hospital and out-patient physiotherapists work together to ensure your full recovery. Muscle recruitment and exercise are necessary to be checked before the patient is discharged and exercises to do at home and treatment plan must be administered to patient as well.

After the patient is discharged from the hospital they are constantly monitored by our physiotherapists to ensure they are on the right tracks to recovery. A surgeon protocol will be followed by our therapists to help better instruct you on how to better treat you which will make you stronger in more ways than you can imagine.

Advice is given and inquiries are answered so we can provide you with all the support you need in this time. Some frequently asked questions are: When will it be ok to go back to work? Will I be able to take on a sport or new activity anytime soon? Things to do and things not do? These questions are well answered by our physiotherapist and advices on how best to cope. Your gradual improvement will be monitored and treatment will change as well to help your performance improve.

Treatment with Hands-on Orthopedic Manual TherapyManagement of Orthopedic conditions: Rotator cuff tears, Meniscal tears, Patello-femoral syndrome

If you find yourself frequently asking any of these questions. Where did I hit my shoulder? Why does my knee feels like I hit it somewhere hard? Why am I feeling sore? The smart thing to do is go see a therapist and have them give you a diagnosis through x-ray. If it turns out that there is not anything fatal or the x-ray turns up negative then you would need treatment that does not include surgery

You might need to seek the expertise of a physiotherapist. This will better allow you to understand the nature of your pain and injury. This is the first step on the road to full and total recovery the diagnosis. After finding out the causes of your pain the physiotherapist will decide the best way to treat with exercises to help increase mobilization and pain control.

Here at our Physiotherapy centre, our very experienced physiotherapists will help you to get to your goal which is to improve your mobility, function and strength. You will be informed of exercises specific to your benefit in order to get you back to your sports or job. The rate of recovery is increased and the rate of re-injury in the future is decreased thanks to the help of our physiotherapist they will make this a reality for you.

Osteoporosis ProgramOsteoporosis exercises and education with Osteo-Circuit Program, a pilot project

Osteoporosis is a disease of bones that leads to an increased risk of fracture In osteoporosis, the bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced, bone micro architecture deteriorates, and the amount and variety of proteins in bone are altered. This often comes without any pre-symptoms warning.

At the childhood and adolescence level our bone formation exceeds resorption. Up until the age of 20 both male and females the bone density has reached its peak. Age 30 and up the resorption exceeds bone formation bone loss begins over time. There are risk factors that contribute to the loss of bones.

The main cause of bone loss in women over 50 is menopause. The bodies manufacturing of estrogen plummets and causes rate of one loss to be raised. Post menopause the rate slows back down but the accumulation of the bone loss can take a negative effect on the individuals body later.

.There are some methods that can be used to build bones such as an exercise program and weight bearing and resistive exercises. There are some workout that are exceptions and are not very advantageous to bone strengthening. At our physiotherapy centre we analyze the mildness or severity of your bone loss and create a treatment that is best fit for you in order to strengthen your bones.

According to statistics in Canada 1 out of 4 women and 1 out of 8 men exceeding the age of 50 is most likely to have osteoporosis.

Fracture RecoveryPost Fracture Recover Program

The skeleton in the human’s body is comprised of 20 bones. Bones are constantly in motion growing and changing. Despite the fact that this is the most resilient material in the human body, it is still not invincible when exposed to unusual pressure or sudden trauma they can become vulnerable to damage.

A fracture is a broken bone. If not treated properly, a fracture can lead to long term disability. A fracture may be closed (the broken bone does not break through the skin) or open (the skin is broken over the fracture site, and the bone may poke through the skin or be visible in the wound). Additionally, stress fractures, which are common in the foot and ankle, are hairline cracks in a bone. These are caused by repeated stress on a bone. In any type of fracture, the bone may fail to heal or it may heal in a poor alignment. If either occurs, a surgical reconstruction may be necessary.

It is really easy to tell when you have a fracture there are multiple signs, there is the sound of something snapping sometime followed by and unbearable pain in the are the snapping sound came from and in some cases are becomes swollen or deformed. Metal pins, screws, braces, splints and the most commonly used cast, these are used to keep the fractured area in a fixed position because most fractures healing process happens naturally. RICE (Rest Ice Compression and Elevation) to treat a fracture you only need the R and that’s rest. Fracture victims are easily distinguished because they mostly are on crutches to be mobile.

The Inflammation Stage begins the moment the bone is broken and lasts for around five days. As we have described earlier, bone has a very good blood supply due to the channels within its structure. When a fracture occurs there is massive disruption to these channels and a large amount of bleeding from the fracture fragments. This is what causes immediate swelling and bruising in the area of the broken bone. This is known as a Haematoma, which means bleeding within the tissue.

Management of a fracture is determined by the type and location of the fracture and is specific to the individuals circumstances. The fracture may be placed in a splint, cast, a brace, surgically fixated or placed in traction. Usually they will remain in these period of 4-6 weeks.  Physiotherapy management of fracture may include detection of the fracture after injury and referral or application of the appriopriate intervention. However most physiotherapy management will be after a period of immobilisation and will involve rehabilitation of the structure around the fracture site

Custom Orthotics Custom foot orthotics is personally designed for the patient it is designed to replicate the wearers feet. Its purpose is to give the wearer maximum comfort and efficiency and balance to help with their posture. The regular person makes over 9,000 steps per day especially when running at that time the pressure is tripled.

If there is pain in the leg that increases with weight bearing, orthotics should be considered as they redistribute pressures from the bottom up. If there is a minor miscalculation of these structures, the results can be devastating it can vary from a significant discomfort or a sharp pain and it can impact the whole body. A variety of musculoskeletal problems can be caused by repeated movement of the feet. Over-pronation and supination of the foot on walking, fallen arches, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, Achilles tendon, shin splints, bunions, runner’s knee, ilio-tibial band syndrome and many sacro-iliac or spinal problems are associated with poor biomechanics of the foot.

Orthotics are sometimes underestimated and mostly think they only serve the purpose as arch support. The body’s natural movement is improved with the help of custom orthotics this also plays a major role in balance. Deformity can be avoided with custom orthotics and the evasion of injury that’s why athletes mainly use them and the fact that they are really comfortable and performance is boosted.

Orthotics should not be confused with regular over the counter shoes insoles; these are so much more and way more beneficial to the user. Instructed by the physiotherapist on how to best create the custom orthotics in a laboratory form high density materials using the precise measurement and mold of your foot. The custom orthotics is designed for you depending on the activity you plan on doing in it so it might vary in density and weight.

Our staff physiotherapists assess and treat all the orthopedic conditions associated with poor biomechanics of the foot and can analyze your gait for irregularities. . They will create an individual comprehensive treatment plan which may recommend the use of orthotics along with therapeutic modalities and an exercise program emphasizing a balance of flexibility and strengthening. Discuss your personal problem with your physician and your physiotherapist alike.

Pelvic Floor StrengtheningPelvic Floor Strengthening Program

You can think of the pelvic floor muscles as a web of interrelated muscles, tendons and ligaments that form a supportive hammock at the base of the pelvic bowl. One of these muscles, the pubococcygeus, also known as the PC muscle, goes around the openings for the urethra, vagina, and anus. When the pelvic floor muscles are weak or damaged, the integrity of these openings can be compromised.

They help stabilize the pelvis, and they support the organs of the lower abdominal cavity, like the bladder and uterus. The pelvic floor muscles are the foundation for the core of the body. The pelvic floor muscles, along with the deep muscles of the back and abdomen, form the group of muscles we work when we focus on developing core strength, as we do in Pilates.

Childbirth, chronic coughing, aging, and inactivity are among the causes of weakened or damaged pelvic floor muscles. A weak pelvic floor can lead to problems like incontinence, diminished sexual enjoyment, and a dropping of the organs into the pelvic muscles which is the case with problems like prolapsed uterus or bladder.

In addition, if the pelvic floor muscles are weak, and not working in concert with the muscles of the abdomen and back, structural imbalances that lead to abdominal and back pain as well as patterns of compensation throughout the body, can occur.

A comprehensive exercise program, muscle stimulation and education can be coordinated for the patient to do either at the clinic or the comfort of their home, this is done using the most modern research and up to date technology. The programs that we offer are designed by our professional physiotherapists.
