Infrastructure/ NEFCCC Workgroup Updates: Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, one of Co-Chairs and Workgroup Leaders had to resign.

Please send your nominations for a new co-chair and/or your interest in leading the Disparities workgroup to Emily by the next meeting in February 2016.

Emily will be sending the draft Communication Plan and Bylaws to NEFCCC. Please review prior to next meeting for discussion.

Prevention Workgroup Updates: SB414 was filed on October 2nd and was reviewed by the sub-committee on November 17th- Passed 6 to 1

Sun Safety education is being conducted at the elementary school level in St. Johns and Duval schools. Please e-mail Mark P or Dr. Merten if you are interested in having a guest lecture or want a copy of the curriculum.

St. Vincent’s hosted skin cancer community screening and had 169 community members attend! 69 biopsies were recommended as a result.

The American Academy of Dermatology is giving up to $8,000 for schools to build shade structures. Contact Mark or Dr. Merten if you are interested in the grant opportunity.

Relay for Life is early next year. Please let Mark know if you are interested in helping or participating. Survivorship/Quality of Life Workgroup Updates:

The team members are discussing the possibility of teasing apart the survivorship and quality of life goals for the strategic plan, along with pooling resources for survivors in the NE FL region.

Florida Cancer Plan Update: HPV Vaccination- statewide summit in February in St. Pete. This is a joint effort between DOH- immunization

and school health teams, along with the Moffitt Cancer Center. Colorectal Screenings (20% by 2018) is a partnership between American Cancer Society, FQHC, and the

Statewide Health System. Please contact Marion if you are interested in colorectal cancer. CHW Trainings- successful training in NE FL in September. Grandfathering process was extended to 2016.

More than 200 CHWs have been certified!

Statewide Community of Practice- Join these statewide groups to complement and share local initiatives Pilot project with Strategic Health Intelligence- recruited some doctors who are testing system. Only data

that would have to be inputted includes patients name, social security number, and type of cancer and the rest would auto-populate. Webinars to be coming with more information soon.

Announcements: UFHealth Proton and Ackerman - adding Pencil Beam Scanning capabilities soon DOH-Clay recently applied for an HPV grant, will find out more information in December Memorial Hospital- No Cost Oncology symposium in February 2016 for Primary Care providers, nurses or

allied health. The focus of the symposium will be to educate primary care physicians and staff about preventative screenings, how to handle a possible cancer diagnosis and follow-up care after cancer treatments ( see attached flyer). CME and CEU credits will be available.

Mayo Clinic- March 11-12 2016 is a FREE Cancer Symposium for patients and providers (see below and attached)

The Comprehensive Cancer Program at Mayo Clinic Florida is pleased to announce our first patient/ caregiver focused symposium entitled: Capture the Moment, a Cancer patient, caregiver and public education forum. The event is scheduled for March 12, 2016 at the beautiful Ritz Carlton Hotel Grand Lakes in Orlando, Florida. This is a free education conference, Save the date Flyer attached. Our detailed brochure outlining speakers and breakout sessions will be available within the next two months.

Empower the patient with educational tools to deal with cancer. How to live a cancer free life. Educate the public on cancer research and its impact on life.

We would like to know if your group would be interested in participating in one or multiple ways: We have 7 booth spaces available (no-charge), and are currently taking booth reservations. Providing Cancer Related Educational Materials. Promotion of the event through your local chapters in South Georgia and throughout Florida.
