WAYLAND MEN’S SHED www.waylandmensshed.com April 2021 Issue 11 Chairman’s Foreword Hi All, another month goes by! I have managed to speak with most of you over the last couple of weeks and was pleased to hear that you are still coping well during the lockdown. I have been trying to keep busy and currently my time is divided between attempting to remove a tree stump in the garden to researching my family tree. The stump has proved challenging and I have gradually been hacking lumps out of it. At my current rate I should have it beaten by Autumn! I had started the family tree back in the late 80’s but had to abandon it due to work commitments. However, with the advent of computers and the Ancestory site I have got back to 1590! I have no links yet to anyone of note and my forefathers seem to have been Glass blowers or labourers. My thoughts go out to Terry Pell, who has been in hospital and to his wife Carol. Also to Mark Heath who is currently unwell and to his parents Jeff and Angela. I’m sure we all wish them both a speedy recovery. Thoughts also go out to anyone who is struggling with Ill health or anxiety issues. Even though we are unable to meet up in person at the moment we can still support one another with calls or messages. Please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the committee if you would like a more regular call. I very much hope that all of you and your families are keeping safe and well. April 2021 Issue 11Chairman’s Foreword

Hi All, another month goes by! I have managed to speak with most of you over the last

couple of weeks and was pleased to hear that you are still coping well during the

lockdown. I have been trying to keep busy and currently my time is divided between

attempting to remove a tree stump in the garden to researching my family tree. The stump

has proved challenging and I have gradually been hacking lumps out of it. At my current

rate I should have it beaten by Autumn! I had started the family tree back in the late 80’s but had to abandon

it due to work commitments. However, with the advent of computers and the Ancestory site I have got back

to 1590! I have no links yet to anyone of note and my forefathers seem to have been Glass blowers or

labourers.

My thoughts go out to Terry Pell, who has been in hospital and to his wife Carol. Also to Mark Heath who is

currently unwell and to his parents Jeff and Angela. I’m sure we all wish them both a speedy recovery.

Thoughts also go out to anyone who is struggling with Ill health or anxiety issues. Even though we are

unable to meet up in person at the moment we can still support one another with calls or messages. Please

do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the committee if you would like a more regular call. I very

much hope that all of you and your families are keeping safe and well.

Malcolm Trayhorn. (WMS

Chairman)

Latest on Shed Opening

The Government road map to lifting restrictions plus the successful role out

of the vaccination programme would appear to point towards us being able

to open in some way on 17th May. However this is not abundantly clear and

we still await clear guidance that relates to Men’s Sheds. John Bush and

John Bunning have been clearing the courtyard at our premises in

anticipation that we may be able to meet up outside in the near future. The

committee will be holding a Zoom meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the way forward. A lot of the

preparatory work for considering how we open, including numbers, risk assessments and protection

measures has been done by Richard and Gordon. The M.O.D. will be contacted to agree opening and renew

lease for another year.

A Big Thank You to…….Jeff Heath, John Bush, John Bunning and all the Computer Section who have continued to carry out their

invaluable work throughout lockdown and still abiding by all Covid restrictions. This has ensured that funds

from their activities are supporting the Shed during a period where we are not collecting membership fees or

subs. Their combined efforts deserve special recognition and our gratitude.

Also our thanks should go to our treasurer Les Waller and vice chairman Gordon Williams who have been

working behind the scenes during lockdown on behalf of Shed members.

Money Coming in:

Easy fundraising - donations raised by members using this service have raised £33.84 up until 31st December 2020.

The computer team continue to bring money into our coffers by the repair and sale of donated computers and the stripping down and sale of scrap metal.

Watton Town Council money received as a result of the Mayors charity £2,000.

Better Together, Voluntary Norfolk grant for £300 which has been spent on annual fee for Zoom and PPE equipment and supplies for when we open again.

Lockdown Laughs:

I sing “Happy Birthday” every time I wash my hands. Now every time I come out of the bathroom, my

wife is waiting with a cake.

I put up a map of the world gave my wife a dart and said, “Throw this and wherever it lands—that’s

where I’m taking you when this pandemic ends.” Turns out, we’re spending two weeks behind the Sofa.

We ran out of toilet paper and started using lettuce leaves. Today was just the tip of the iceberg,

tomorrow romaines to be seen.

After months of wanting to decorate the house but lacking the time, this week I realised that wasn’t the

reason.

During the lockdown I have been eating lots, now the buttons on my shirt have started to socially

distance from each other.

This morning I saw a neighbour talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I

came into my house, told my dog–we laughed a lot.

Nothing like relaxing on the couch after a long day of being tense on the couch.

It would help greatly if I received more contributions from other members in order to make it more

interesting. A short story, a piece on your hobby or let us know what you are doing to keep busy during

lockdown. If you feel you need a good old chat with another Men’s Shed member please do not hesitate to
