1.4 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

A. Supply LULA elevators in compliance with:1. ASME A17.1- Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.2. NFPA 70 - National Electric Code.

B. Supply LULA elevators in compliance with:1. CSA B44 - Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.2. CSA C22.1 - Canadian Electrical Code.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data including:1. Materials, components, profiles, fabrication, finishes, capacities, operational data, and

accessories for each product to be used.2. Preparation instructions and recommendations.3. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.4. Installation methods.

C. Shop Drawings:1. Calculations and analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional

engineer responsible for their preparation.2. Typical details of assembly, installation, coordination with shaftway and relationship

with adjacent construction.3. Complete layout and location of equipment, clearances, doors, frames, sizes,

capacities, options and finishes.4. Wiring diagrams, control and activation devices.5. Do not commence work until shop drawings have been approved and returned.

D. Test and Inspection Reports:1. Submit certified reports indicating elevators comply with requirements of the local

jurisdiction and specified performance requirements.2. Complete TSSA Pre-Inspection Checklist prior to scheduling inspection.

E. Templates: Provide templates, concrete wall inserts, and diagrams to fabricators and installers of adjacent work for field coordination.

F. Verification Samples: Provide two samples of each exposed finish, minimum size 6 by 6 inches (150 by 150 mm) representing full range of each product, color, and patterns to be installed.

G. Operation and Maintenance Manual: Submit manufacturer's information for operation and maintenance manual including recommendations for periodic inspections and adjustments, spare parts list and local supplier information.

H. Submit warranties.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 years manufacturing similar equipment.

B. Installer Qualifications: Employ only elevator contractors and fully trained mechanics who are regularly employed in this field and have been satisfactorily supplying and installing similar elevators for at least the immediate past five years.

C. Applicable Building Codes: Hoistway, control room, control space and machine room, and

removable barricades shall comply with the local jurisdiction including fire ratings, elevator, safety, electrical and building codes.

D. Entrances: Entrances shall be manufactured and labeled in accordance with procedures established by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

E. Welding:1. AWS certified welders, welding according to AWS D1.1 structural welding, steel.2. CWB certified welders according to CSA Standards W47 and W59.

F. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories:1. Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70 by a qualified testing agency.2. Listed and labeled as defined in CAN/CSA C22.1 by a qualified testing agency.

G. Pre-Installation Meeting: Convene at the project site a minimum of two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

H. Coordination: Coordinate Work of this Section with Work to be provided by others

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging with manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

B. Handle materials in accordance with the manufacturers instructions to avoid damage.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

B. Do not use elevator for hoisting construction materials or personnel without written permission from the Owner.

C. The elevator contractor shall furnish all licenses and permits and shall arrange for and make all required inspections and tests.

D. Coordination: Coordinate Work of this Section with Work to be provided by others including:1. General Contractor to confirm measurements as per shop drawings.2. Concrete and Building Structure:

a. Install concrete wall inserts provided by elevator manufacturer.b. Provide blockouts, underpinning, pockets, patching, cutouts, grouting and

concrete work.c. Finish masonry and grout in saddles full length.d. Ledges over 4 inch (100mm) to be beveled 75 degrees on top and bottom.e. Entrance frames are not designed to support overhead wall loads. Suitable

supports must be provided.f. Provide adequate support for machine beams, buffers and hydraulics, designed

for reaction forces shown on layout and shop drawings.g. Steel elevator guide rails shall be furnished to guide the car, erected plumb and

securely fastened to the building structure.h. Provide adequate support for guide rail fastening at pit and guide rail bracket

locations, not spanning more than allowed by local codes. Rail force loads shall be doubled for safety.

i. Provide pit waterproofing.j. Provide a non-removable means to mechanically hold elevator cars above the

pit floor to provide an area for maintenance and inspection in accordance with

specified safety requirements.3. Machine Room, Control Space, or Control Room Requirements:

a. Located as shown on layout, with final location adjacent to the hoistway preferred.

b. Provide self-closing, self-latching, fire rated door, minimum 30 inch wide by 80 inch high (750mm wide x 2030mm high).

c. Minimum space height to be 90 inch (2286mm) clear below equipment.d. Temperature to be thermostatically controlled and maintained between 50

degreesF and 90 degreesF (10 degreesC and 32 degreesC). Maximum humidity 95%, non-condensing.

4. Hoistways:a. Hoistways must be plumb within 1 inch (25mm) and not less than the

dimensions shown on layout or shop drawings.b. Provide entrance wall pocket and furring at rear serving floors where required.c. Finished front and rear walls to be erected in the rough openings in accordance

with the architectural drawings after elevator entrance frames have been installed.

d. If decorative material is applied to listed certified frames it shall conform to the requirements of the certifying organization.

e. Provide finished flooring in elevator cab unless otherwise indicated on shop drawings.

5. General Electrical Requirements:a. All conduit to be EMT.b. No conduit, wiring, or piping other than that pertaining to elevators will be

permitted in the hoistway, control room, control space, or machine room.c. Provide sleeves for oil and electric ducts from machine room to hoistway.d. Provide permanent single phase, and permanent or temporary three-phase

power for elevator equipment installation.e. Temporary power must meet the specified power requirements.f. Elevator feeders, dedicated ground wire and lockable, fused disconnects wired

to manufacturers controller.g. Pit lighting level to be minimum 100lx. Pit to contain a 120VAC light fixture,

switch and GFCI convenience outlet. Switch to be accessible from pit access.h. Machine room, control room, or control space lighting level to be 200lx

minimum including 120VAC light fixture, switch and GFCI convenience outlet. Switch to be on the lock jamb side of door unless otherwise indicated.

i. To operate an elevator in the event of normal power supply failure, provide two "normally open" dry contacts rated for 120VAC at 1 amp from the emergency power transfer switch and wired to the elevator controller.

j. One emergency power contact to close when emergency or standby power is in effect.

k. Other contact to close ten seconds prior to emergency-power testing to allow elevator to stop at nearest landing.

6. Two-Way Communication Systems:a. Buildings with a rise of less than 60 feet (18m) must have a connection

between the car and a location staffed by authorized personnel.b. Buildings with a rise of 60 feet (18m) or more must have a connection between

the car and a location within the building that is accessible to emergency personnel.

c. Provide telephone connection from control room or control space to elevator, except the wire from the controller in the machine room.

7. Fire Alarm Initiating Devices (smoke or heat detectors, not pull stations):a. Located at each floor served by the elevator and in the associated elevator

machine room, control space or control room to be wired to a building fire panel.

b. Building fire panel to have (3) "NORMALLY OPEN" dry contacts rated for

120vac at 1 amp, wired from the building fire panel to the elevator controller(s).c. One contact for main lobby, one contact for other building floor levels, and one

contact for machine room, control space or control room.d. Contact to close when alarm is initiated. Provide optional signals to the elevator

controller where indicated.

1.9 WARRANTY

A. Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form to guarantee the work and materials and will make good any defects, not due to ordinary wear and tear, or to improper use or care, which may develop within the warranty period provided work has been properly used, oiled and cared for, and provided all payments due by the terms of this contract shall have been made in full when due.1. Warranty Period: Three year limited factory parts warranty from date of Substantial

Completion.2. Warranty Period: One year full warranty including parts and labor.3. Warranty Period: In accordance with the Contract.

B. Maintenance Service: Installers 24 hours per day, 365 days per year service with emergency call back service and no more than two hours travel distance from the project site. Include manufacturer's recommended preventative maintenance services, repair or replacement of defective components or components beyond their designated service life, using parts and supplies identical to those used in the original installation.1. Maintenance Service Period: Two years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

5. Toe Guard Fascia: 10 gauge steel, full width, formed.6. Manufactured by certified welding shop.

C. Shell Enclosure:1. Car Top: 14 gauge (1.9mm) steel.2. Shell Walls: 14 gauge (1.9mm) steel.3. Strike Column: 14 gauge (1.9mm) stainless steel # 4 finish.4. Return Wall: 14 gauge (1.9mm) stainless steel #4 finish.5. Fascia 14 gauge (1.9mm) stainless Steel # 4 finish, full width, straight type.

D. Car Platform:1. Fabricated Frame: Formed or structural steel shapes.2. Sub-Flooring: Wood.3. Underside of the platform will be fireproofed.4. Manufactured by certified welding shop and equipped with an aluminum sill.

E. Automatic Landing Doors and Hoistway Entrance Frames:1. Doors:

a. Two speed horizontally sliding, side opening, left or right hand.b. Flush hollow metal doors with integral hanger assembly.c. Power operated by operator mounted on top of the car.d. Motor will positive control over door movement for smooth operation.

2. Nominal Entrance Size: 36 by 84.5 inch (914 x 2150mm).3. Frames: Assembled for one-piece unit installation, including extruded aluminum sill,

fascia, toe guard, hanger cover, header, hanger track assembly, and formed structural strut supports.

4. Standard Fire Rating: 1.5 hours.

F. Door Operation:1. Automatic at each landing.2. Infra-red detectors stop and reopen the doors if an obstruction is detected during the

closing cycle.3. Door opening initiated as the car arrives at the landing.4. Closing after expiration of a time interval.5. Electric contact prevents starting the elevator away from the landing unless the car

door is in closed position.

G. Positive Interlock:1. Approved positive interlock provided for each hoistway entrance to prevent operation

of the hydraulic unit unless all doors for that elevator are closed.2. Maintains doors in closed position while the elevator is away from the landing.3. Provide emergency access to the hoistway as required by governing codes.

H. Roped Hydraulic System:1. Safeties: Instantaneous safeties actuated by inertia or slack ropes. The instantaneous

safety shall be automatic and reset by running the car in the up direction.2. Overspeed Valves:

a. A single overspeed valve located in the pressure piping within 12 inches (300mm) of the hydraulic jack.

b. Overspeed valve safety tests will be conducted annually with no-load and every five years with full-load.

3. Governors:a. Located in the hoist way overhead.b. Electrically activated means of manually tripping the governor from the machine

room for annual no-load and five-year full-load safety tests.c. The design shall not require a governor access door.

4. Plungers and Cylinders:a. 3-1/2 inch (90mm) hydraulic cylinder.b. Cylinders constructed of steel pipe of sufficient thickness and suitable for the

operating pressure.c. The top of the cylinder shall be equipped with a cylinder head with a drip ring to

collect oil seepage with an internal guide ring and self-adjusting packing.d. Plunger constructed of selected steel tubing or pipe of proper diameter

machined true and smooth with a fine polished finish.e. The plunger shall be provided with a stop ring electrically welded to prevent the

plunger from leaving the cylinder.f. The plunger and cylinder shall be installed plumb and shall operate freely with

minimum friction.5. Ropes:

a. Minimum two 3/8 inch (9.5mm) aircraft cable steel rope.b. Construction: 7x19.c. Breaking Load: 14388 pounds (64.01kN).

6. Sheave Carriage: Sheave carriage to be guided along elevator rails. Sheave to be of metal construction and of diameter to suit wire ropes.

7. Hydraulic Pump Unit:a. Integral design with submersible electric motor connected to a pump, a

hydraulic control system, a storage tank, necessary piping connections, and a controller, all compactly designed as a single self-contained unit.

b. The motor and pump assembly shall be mounted on a rubber isolated inner base.

c. Pump: positive displacement screw type to give smooth operation and shall be especially designed and manufactured for elevator service.

d. Steel Hydraulic Oil Storage Tank with cover, fill cap, oil level sight glass and oil temperature indicator.

e. Tank design shall incorporate a reserve capacity. An initial supply of oil sufficient for proper operation shall be provided by the manufacturer.

8. Piping:a. Pipe or hose as permitted by code of adequate size and thickness shall be

installed between the pumping unit and the cylinder head.b. A shut off valve shall be provided for maintenance and adjusting purposes.

I. Electrical Power Supply:1. Controller: Single automatic microprocessor with relay logic and overload protection.2. Hydraulic Control System: Alternating current, submersible, compact design suitable

for operation under the required pressures.3. Main Power Supply:

a. 220 volt, single phase, 60 hertz, 30 amp.b. 208 volt, three phase, 60 hertz, 30 amp.c. 600 volt, three phase, 60 hertz, 10 amp.d. As recommended by the manufacturer.

4. Lighting Supply: 120 Volts, 60 Hertz, 15 Amp (separate circuit).

J. Fire Service:1. No fire service required (standard).2. Phase 1 fire recall service as required for ASME A17.1/CSA B44.3. Phase 1 and 2 fire recall service.

K. Communications Failure Verification:1. In car emergency telephone communications verification circuit to test phone line at

least once every 24 hours and activate alarm and visual signal in case of failure as required for ASME A17.1/CSA B44.

L. Car Stall Protective Circuit:1. Protective circuit stops the motor and pump and returns the car to its lowest landing if

the car does not reach its designed landing within a predetermined time interval.2. The circuit shall permit a normal exit from the car but prevent further operation of the

elevator until trouble has been corrected.

M. Automatic Leveling Device:1. Automatic leveling device will bring the car to a stop within 1/4 inch (6mm) of the

landing level regardless of load or direction of travel.2. Landing level will be maintained within the leveling zone whether the hoistway doors

are open or closed.

N. Storage Tank:1. Constructed of steel, provided with cover and filter screen mounted over the suction

inlet.2. Tank design shall incorporate a reserve capacity. An initial supply of oil sufficient for

proper operation shall be provided by the manufacturer.

O. Supplemental Features and Options:1. Controller: Selective collective.2. Four power saving recessed LED lights.3. Overall Height: 84.63 inches (2150mm) clear inside.4. Hall Call Stations: LED illuminated keyless call stations in stainless steel #4 finish.5. Hall Call Stations: Key switch access and integral Digital Position Indicator.6. Hall Call Stations: Integral Digital Position Indicator.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine and measure installation areas are prepared to receive elevators and site conditions are within the manufacturers limits.

B. The Elevator Contractor shall report in writing to the General Contractor and to the Consultant any defects of surfaces or work prepared by other trades, which affect the quality or dimensions of this elevator work.1. Commencement of work implies Elevator Contractor's acceptance of all work by other

trades.

C. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared and necessary building services are installed.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Install elevators in accordance with manufacturer instructions and specified safety standards.

B. Set entrances in vertical alignment with car openings, and aligned with plumb hoistway lines.

3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Perform tests to demonstrate compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44 in accordance with ASTM A17.2 testing procedures.

B. Elevator Contractor shall be present during elevator inspections and tests.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed elevators from damage until Substantial Completion.
