During this task, you will listen to a read aloud from your teacher and reflect on reading using “Stop-and-Jots.”Quick Things to Know:M: Metacognition- Thinking about your thinking.S: Schema-Using your background knowledge to make a connection.I: Inferring- Making a prediction based on text evidence. DI: Determining Importance- What was the most important detail?V: Visualizing- Creating mental pictures in your mind using your senses.

Tasks: Listen to the read aloud. Write down 3-4 “Stop-and-Jots” per chapter.Links/ Activities: Using the notebook that was sent home in your folder, open to a clean page. Put the date in to top left corner. At the top of the page write the title of our book. Open the link on your teacher’s website to hear the class read loud. Write down your reflections. In the margin of the notebook, label the reflection with the letter of your connection. Write 3-4 connections.A copy of the Comprehension Connections Posters that we have in our Journals and/or that are hanging in the classroom are on your teacher’s website.

Explanation of Activity and Assignment: This year students have studied synonyms. Today, your child will complete two pages in the Word Work Review packet, both titled, “Synonyms”. Quick Things to Know:

1) Synonyms are words that are different, that have the same meaning. Example: hot and warm, smile and grin, etc.

2) There are lots of pages in your Word Work Review packet. When we assign something in this packet, PLEASE be sure to read the title of each page so you are ONLY doing the work assigned and not working through more pages than necessary. We will assign different Word Work activities in this packet throughout the duration of Distance Learning.

Tasks: Complete the next two pages in your Word Work Review Packet. These two pages are both titled, “Synonyms”. Tasks:

1. Complete the assignment on Seesaw called Gr 3 Day 9 Multiplication Facts.

2. Complete the assignment on Seesaw called Gr 3 Day 9 Fractions.

3. Extra: Only do this activity if you want more practice.:

a. Use the document called Gr 3 Day 9 Number Cards. You can also Use a deck of cards or create your own number cards using the numbers 1-9.

b. Take a pencil, pen, straw, etc. and place in in front of you to make a horizontal line.

c. Flip over one number card and place it above the horizontal line. Flip over a second number card and place it below the horizontal line.

d. Draw a picture of the fraction and say the fraction out loud to someone else.

e. Repeat 8 or more times.

4. Extra: Only do this activity if you want more practice.: play “Pete the Plumber: Fractions and Mixed Numbers” on Ed: Your Friend in Learning.

3. Answer the following questions in your notebook: What is a group of lions called? How many hours a day do lions sleep? Why do they sleep for such a long time? How many lions are left in the world?

4. Watch the video: “Mission: Polar Bear Rescue.”

5. Answer the following questions in your notebook: What part of a polar bear’s body protects it from the cold? How long can a polar bear stay under water? What can we do to help save the polar bears?
