Wayside Quilters Guild will be offering two workshops this spring! On Saturday, April 7, we will host a workshop with Modern Quilter Amy Friend, who spoke at our February meeting about Modern Quilting. Her quilts used all the hallmarks of the modern movement, including negative space, assymetry, alternative gridwork, solid colors and high contrast fabrics. Her workshop is on Improvisational Paper Piecing. This technique is NOT difficult, and learning within a group setting is very rewarding. This is a great way to learn how to design your own quilt!

Amy Friend quilt Pat Pauly quilt

On Saturday, May 5th, we will be hosting a workshop with Pat Pauly, our speaker from last September. Pat’s lecture on "Contemporary meets Traditional", was fast-paced, informative and paired with a stunning array of her beautiful art quilts.Pat will teach the quick steps to Improv Composition, with her handful of piecing techniques and tips on construction. We will make mini-works that can become a finished art quilt. The workshop is a great way to let go of templates and see possibilities develop in your art quilt.

Signups for both workshops are NOW. $45 will reserve your member spot and $55 will reserve your friend or non member. Please contact Laura Lane to reserve your space.

Raffle Ticket Sales

Starting with the April 2 meeting, I will have envelopes of tickets for each guild member. Your envelope will include six packets of tickets, a photo of the quilt and instructions. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, quite a deal for a chance to win our amazing raffle quilt!

Please try to sell all your tickets to yourself, your family, your friends, your coworkers, people you chat with at the coffee shop and even the people sitting next to you in the theater. This will be a significant part of our quilt show income. It is critical for supporting our great programs and we are counting on everyone to help out.

Let’s try to beat the $4000 we made last show.

Thank you all for your help and cooperation.

Thank you to the folks who came to the Outreach sewing day on March 10 th. We had 6 attendees: Jean, Josee, Karen, Jill, Anne and Nancy. We also had a cameo appearance from Judy and Gayle! We gave Jean K. a stack of quilts and sent a few to Kate W. for their longarming expertise. We began several new tops. Thanks you all. It was a very pleasant day to sew, discuss, learn and keep company!

We still need more quilts to meet our goals for donation to the Camp Erin of Boston. Check out their website to learn a lot more about this wonderful camp for bereaved kids at http://www.camperinboston.org. We also support the Reach Beyond Domestic Violence, Trust House in Boston and the Pathways Shelter in Framingham.

Let me know if you need batting to complete a quilt that you are donating to our Outreach. We will provide it.

May 7th Meeting

Cathy Racine of Charlton Sewing Center will come and talk about "Everything Matters". This lecture will cover all things related to sewing machines and working with threads, tension and different types of needles, etc, etc. This lecture promises to cover a lot more than the basics – our machines are what make our quilting possible!

She will be vending as well, bringing with her many notions and new ‘things’ from her store. This is an opportunity to stock up on items you may need over the summer!

Tica deMoorFlyer Distribution

Our guild is small. So to be able to host a fundraiser like the Auction and have great speakers give us great workshops, we rely on you, our members to spread the word. The more friends or non-members we get involved, the more money we make and maybe can even gain new members. It’s a win / win situation.

Please use the flyers on the last few pages of this Newsletter to spread the word. Leave them in the places you frequent around town. Email them to you friends. Let everyone know what we offer!
